This is the lower unit of a two unit beach home. 2017 heated In-Ground Pool with leni shared with Salty Dog Straight Up (fees do apply for pool heat). A beautiful open floor plan with updated kitchen, bar, dining room. Beautiful views from expansive windows of the Gulf from the open concept living space. The interior space flows out to a 10x30 screen porch. You can open the windows for a sea breeze and to hear the surf. There is a futon (in cabinet under TV) for extra sleeping in the great room. The master bedroom is tucked around the corner. Complete with a washer/dryer. This property can be rented with VRBO

My family and I very much enjoyed our stay. The home was conveniently located to everything and the property itself was very well maintained. The owners were helpful and kind and we had everything we needed.

Perfect Get away for a couple
We were delighted with the location, the decor and functionality of Salty Dog on the Rocks! We also enjoyed the pool, the grill and the front porch immensely. Best of all, Matt - the owner - was readily available to answer any questions. We will definitely come back and bring the rest of the family to rent the whole house!

Wow! We found a gem! My husband and I had a few last minute days off work and decided to take our boys and go to the beach last minute. We were so lucky to find the Salty Dog! Wonderful owners with their own dog, Chance! Even with teenagers and a dog, we had plenty of room. The house and property is beautiful. Pictures haven’t been updated so it is even better in person. Great for families or just a couple. The beach is so close and really private! You won’t be disappointed! We hope to go back in the fall. Thanks for such a relaxing stay!

Wonderful property. Excellent location, it was like we had the beach to ourselves the whole trip. The house is cozy but perfect for what we needed. The porch/outdoor areas are very nice. The owners are on site and are absolutely great. We had a flat on checkout day and he was nice enough to air our tire so we could make it to the shop to get a plug. The pool is perfect. Not far from the beach at all. You can hear upstairs guest walking occasionally but that's honestly to be expected with any multilevel set up. It didn't bother us and the dogs quickly got used to it. We used a sound machine to help.The dishes in the kitchen weren't the cleanest (likely cleaned by previous guest). Not a big deal, we just washed things before we used them. We would definitely stay here again!!

We enjoyed our stay in the unit. The front porch with its view of the ocean and sea breeze was lovely, as was the pool. The place was clean, except for the sofa cushions, but I covered them with the dog sheet, which is a great idea. However, only one burner of the two-burner electric stove worked, and it had no oven. There was a large toaster oven, but it didn’t work at all. I called Dawn less than 24 hours after we arrived for a 6-day stay to discuss the stove, but she never called me back. I doubt there was much she could do about it on short notice, but she could have at least had the courtesy to return my call.

Better than expected
I would first like to say that Matt, the property owner, is one of the most wonderful people we have ever rented from. We have visited this area 16 out of the past 20 years, he went above and beyond to make our stay as carefree and comfortable as possible. Can’t thank him enough for this. The property itself was more than we expected. We’ve always stayed on the beach, this was our first house not right at the waters edge. Even though we were across the street from the water we still felt like we were beachside that’s how close you are. It’s really just a short walk, so close you can leave your window cracked open at night and still go to sleep enjoying the peaceful sound of the waves. The house is beautiful and was very clean. The property is very carefully thought out with every amenity you could think of. We loved the screened in porch and also enjoyed the heated pool. This is one would definitely return to. We brought our 7 month old pup with us and she had the time of her life. Willow is now 100% a Salty Dog and I know she would love to visit Matt and the beach again next year!!

Beautiful Quiet Area of Florida
We enjoyed our time at the Salty Dog! The house worked well for our family of 3 & our small dog. Super easy check in. The house was clean & the kitchen was well stocked w/cooking supplies. The outdoor space was great! It’s hard to tell in the pics, but the oversized screened in porch w/the long dining table & sitting area, is a private porch for this unit only. We loved this area & ate all of our meals out there…you can see see a small bit of the ocean from it. I believe the other screened porch in the pics can be used by guests from upstairs, too- it’s on the side of the house along with the grill, cornhole, firepit, & pool area. The boardwalk for beach access is literally right in front of the house. The closest people to us on the beach may have been 50 yards away which was so nice. The water wasn’t very clear during our stay-more of a murky brown, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying it. The road you see in the pics (between the house & the beach) is just a neighborhood street that people walk on, & only drive on to access their homes…not busy at all. Super quiet, calm, nature protected area (and pitch dark at night) & very close to the quaint downtown of Port St Joe, Cape San Blas, and Apalachicola. (There are bears in the area but we had no issues.) The owner was extremely kind and gave us tips for the area. We enjoyed our first stay in this gorgeous, quaint area of Florida, and wouldn’t hesitate to book with Matt and his Salty Dog properties again.

Good and Bad of Salty Dog on the Rocks
Good: Great location and beach access. The amenities on the property are very nice. Bad: The first night we were at Salty Dog on the Rocks, my wife saw a mouse. The next day while vacuuming, we noticed several mouse droppings. That afternoon a mouse ran out into the living room again. We notified the property manager. He sat traps and told us the pest control would be there the next morning. The pest control did not arrive. We were then told the pest control would be there the following morning between 10 and 11, and to my knowledge there never arrived again. The mouse droppings seemed to get worse very day. I noticed the air vent in the bedroom dumping the air in the direction of the head of the bed. I tried to move the vents air direction, but the adjustment was broken. As I was looking at the vent, I noticed black mold covering the entire vent. 3 out of the 4 air vents were covered in mold. The shower pan looked like it had not been cleaned and had mold around the caulking. The shower curtain had mold on the bottom. We checked out a day early due to the cleanliness of the property.

Perfect family vacation spot
This was probably our best family vacation. Having a teen, younger kids & pups is always so hard to go on vacation & keep everyone happy. BUT we were able to, in part due to this vacation rental. Between being so close to the beach & having the pool all kids were happy. Being able to bring our pups was great & they LOVED the beach. The salty dog was bigger than we anticipated, plenty of room for all of us & we LOVED the screeed porches. We had zero issues, but did contact owner for a quick question; he answered immediately & was so helpful. We will definitely be back again & again!

I will definitely go again!
The location is wonderful and the property was just what we needed. The owners live on site, but are not intrusive at all and are wonderful folks. Close enough to great food and shops, but far enough away to avoid the crowds. A very peaceful spot with a great beach. A very, very relaxing vacation.

We had a great stay at Salty Dog! Plenty of space for our family of 5. So easy to walk to the beach. We occasionally heard footsteps when we had a family with small kids staying upstairs but nothing that really bothered us. Would definitely visit again.

We enjoyed each day in the pool and on the beach. My sister had a place on Mexico Beach, but she came to my location daily because it wasn't too crowded. We had an excellent time. The kids enjoyed the kayaks and crabbing. Dinner at Indian Pass Raw Bar was so good. We will be back next year.

Great vacation
We rented both properties (upstairs unit Salty Dog Straight Up and downstairs unit Salty Dog On the Rocks) so our extended family could vacation together. The beach (not crowded) was steps away and we enjoyed the pool with the screened enclosure. Many nice amenities--outdoor bathroom and shower, screened porch and an additional screened patio where the grill is located. Owners are very nice and manage the property well.

Wonderful location and home
We enjoyed staying at their beach house with our family of four and friends, also a family of four. This home had everything we needed, the pool was just the perfect size for our kiddos. The walk to the beach was just right. The owners were the friendliest people and so helpful!
