Bois Blanc Island Lighthouse Home. Iconic Sunset Views of the Mackinac Bridge!

(There is a 23% savings for rentals for seven days or more.)

This is a one of a kind home that is more of an experience than a destination. Located on Bois Blanc Island in the Straits of Mackinac, it features iconic sunset views of the Mackinac Bridge and the Straits Area. Rise early enough and you can witness the moonlight from the southwest shimmering through the darkness across calm waters as the sunrise paints an incredible canvas to the north, greeting you for a new day. Enjoy access to over one thousand feet of private Lake Huron beach frontage, trails, and wilderness.

To experience these panoramic views from this secluded lighthouse home on the western tip of historic Lime Kiln Point ascend the floating spiral staircase that leads you to the lighthouse views. These views reveal the spectacular beauty of creation. Take in a breathtaking view that is so special it is featured on the State of Michigan "Mackinac Bridge License Plate" and you will fully comprehend why this view is so significant to the Great State of Michigan. A Foucault Pendulum is suspended from the base of the lighthouse allowing guests to chart the rotation of the earth on the maritime compass tiled in the main floor below.

Two master bedrooms on the main floor are easily accessible and designed to optimize the views. Four spacious bedrooms on the second level provide ample space and privacy for friends and family. This home was designed specifically to take advantage of its setting. You can enjoy the views and sunsets from the beach, the lighthouse, living room, kitchen, spacious loft, master bedrooms, four upper bedrooms and two decks.

Watch for eagles flying overhead between Bois Blanc Island and Round Island, chart the Great Lakes freighter traffic as it passes under the Mackinac Bridge and watch the ferry traffic from afar as tourists flock to historic Mackinac Island.

Download the mobile "Marine Traffic-Ship Tracking" app and you can learn about the freighters and their destinations as you enjoy your front row seat to both the north and south passages. It is particularly fun to watch freighters vanish behind one edge of Round Island and anticipate their appearance as they emerge from the other end of the Island. At times you can hear them sound their horns and on the other side of Round Island when Mackinac Island water enthusiast get too close for comfort.

It is particularly pleasant to sit at the beach or watch from the lighthouse and witness the checkerboard pattern of the waves as they reach our beachfront which is the "point" of Lime Kiln Point. This is one of few locations in the world you will witness waves approach from two different directions to form this cross hatch pattern. This patten is the result of the location of Round Island and its proximity to the point. It is very relaxing to watch and anticipate the diamond shaped patterns in the waves as they gently break on shore.

Constructed in 2021, the home features all-season construction with complete kitchen and laundry facilities. It comfortably sleeps 12 in its six full sized bedrooms. Three sofas and a loveseat can also serve as sleeping space and are particularly inviting for grandchildren. In addition, there is ample space in the loft and bedrooms for sleeping bags that are distant from foot traffic. With four and a half baths, and several eating areas, the home manages large groups of people effortlessly.

For most people, the trip to Bois Blanc Island begins and ends with a trip on the "Kristen D." The "Kristen D." is a car and passenger ferry, owned and operated by Plaunt Transportation in Cheboygan Michigan. Plaunt Transportation has been serving the transportation needs of Bois Blanc Island since 1932 when it was started by Charles Plaunt and continues to be a family owned and operated company. The Kristen D. is 95' long and 36' long. Departure is from the Plaunt Transportation dock in Cheboygan, MI and the trip to the island is an enjoyable forty-five minute ride. It is extremely important to arrive at least twenty minutes prior to departure to and from the island as it takes time to load vehicles on the boat. Plaunt Transportation crew drive all vehicles onto the boat as it is typically a tight fit. Vehicle owners then comfortably drive off the boat under the guidance of the crew. Be certain to make your ferry reservation well in advance as the boat frequently fills up as far as two weeks in advance. When possible, additional trips are added to the schedule, but it is very unwise to count on that. Tickets for vehicles and passengers are available in the office which has its entrance at the road. Again, it is imperative and to arrive early for loading as the FERRY LEAVES ON SCHEDULE. Information for Plaunt Transportation can be found at:

https://plaunttransportation.com

Air transportation is available to Bois Blanc Island by Great Lakes Air and Fresh Air Aviation. We have had very positive experiences with Great Lakes Air on our flights to the island. Both air carriers have departures from the Cheboygan and St. Ignace airports. You can individually schedule flights at your convenience with Great Lakes Air. The Bois Blanc Township Airport features an impressive runway available for private and commercial flights. Information about the airport can be found at the addresses below. If you plan on flying to the island arrangements for transportation to and from the home and airport will have to be done on an individual basis.

Fresh Air Aviation, Inc.: www.freshairaviation.net

PLEASE PLAN ON BRINGING ALL FOOD ITEMS WITH YOU. "The Island Diner" is the only location on the island to purchase food stuffs and it HAS LIMITED ITEMS IN STOCK, this cannot be stressed enough. While provisions can be ordered from mainland stores and delivered to the Bois Blanc Township Marina, it is best to plan ahead as last minute items can prove difficult to obtain. Meal planning should be done in advance and you should plan on bringing all food stuffs with you. Basic pantry staples will be stocked at the home. If you have any questions in regards to meal planning, supplies and provisions please feel free to ask.

(We are currently busy working on the finishing details of our home at Lime Kiln Point on Bois Blanc Island, Michigan. Keep checking for additional updates to the home. )

Great time
Our family had a perfect week. Everything in the house is excellent quality construction, very impressive to accomplish on a island with limited resources. The property is very large, impressive, peaceful, beautiful, among other flattering adjectives. The views from the house are honestly one of a kind. We had 8 adults and 5 kids for the week and we were very comfortable. Definitely recommend.

Wow! What an amazing week in one of the neatest, most beautiful places on the planet! The home is stunning, and can accommodate a large group. Having Lake Huron as the backyard provides peace and serenity. The lighthouse feature is one of a kind! Wendy is amazing to work with, and property manager Michelle is so helpful! Bonum Est has become our favorite place for family vacation. We will be back!!

Can’t beat the views!
We had a great time here. The beach area is very rocky, like no sand, so definitely bring water shoes! Outside of that the place and the sunsets with the Mackinaw Bridge in the background were stunning. They provided everything you would expect and beach toys too. We made good use of the new screened in fire pit too. Very relaxing and beautiful place just be prepared for a 25 minute drive to get more ice for coolers and a few critters around - some of our kids loved that part though.

The views are spectacular! Our family enjoyed the extremes, from literally just sitting and freighter watching to kayaking in Lake Huron. Fireworks and sunsets were picture worthy, the screened in fire pit was a great place to end the day. The kitchen was thoughtfully stocked. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves making memories!!

Paradise
Lovely home and property. Fireplace and all modern accoutrements. Very clean and comfortable. Three full baths on first floor and two on the second floor. Magnificent views out all windows. Great drinking water. Kitchen is well equipped for cooking. The home sits on the west end of Bois Blanc island. The home includes an impressive lighthouse tower which is accessible by an interior spiral staircase. A recent addition is a screened in gazebo with a firepit and lovely view of Lake Huron and the Mackinaw Bridge which is spectacular after dark. The entire property has a beach front and is a paradise. (However, bring your Deep Woods Off to combat the bugs). There is shallow waters off the beachfront for swimming. Michelle, the property manage, was wonderfully helpful and pleasant. Kayaks, bikes, paddle boards can all be rented and delivered to the property by her. She was very accommodating. This spot is a dream come true for family vacationing. It can accommodate up to sixteen. I recommend it for an unforgettable very special family get together. You won’t regret it.

Awesome Beautiful Quiet Location
This was an awesome, beautiful, quiet location. That is, until our family of 15 arrived. Then the swimming, canoeing, fishing, biking, running, walking, campfires started. There were all age ranges from 7-70 and we all kept actively engaged. The beauty of the area was awe inspiring. And the house….very comfortable and appropriate for the area. The lighthouse was a great vantage point. The bedrooms (6) and bathrooms were very nicely appointed. It was a family vacation that we will remember forever.

Boblo Island house
The house was beautiful and the views spectacular. We had a wonderful family reunion, but this house only sleeps 12. When we booked it advertised two sleeper sofas. There are no sleeper sofas. There are 4 nice recliner chairs but they do not extend flat and cannot be used for young people sleeping since they are in the family room. Also there are no wine glasses nor a wine bottle opener. But we had a great time.

Wonderful location
Home and location are as advertised. The island location and remote location of the home ensure a quiet and isolated experience. The views are tremendous. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate fully during our stay. However, the house was large enough for each member of our group of eleven to find a space of their own if desired. We were very impressed with the kitchen’s quality and the comprehensive stock of utensils and supplies. The beach is rocky but there are ample alternatives that are sandy spread around the island. At the north end of Bible Road you’ll find just a beach and a great view of Mackinac Island. Just make sure you bring everything you need as supplemental trips to restock, either on the island or back on the mainland, are quite expensive. Overall, a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of city life and a great getaway.

The property manager was great and very helpful during our stay. The inside of the home is more beautiful than the pictures portray. Everything in the home is well thought out with much detail. We came we'll prepare with all of our food and beverages. The kitchen was VERY well equipment to make any meal. It was perfect.

A relaxing and beautiful getaway!
My family and I (a group of 23) stayed comfortably here for a week. The experience of getting to the home was a lot of fun starting with the ferry ride and ending with the short winding car ride to the home itself. Once we got to the home we were greeted by Michelle, the property manager, who gave us a tour of the home and helpfully answered any questions we had. Also, Wendy, one of the property owners, was extremely helpful in answering all our questions in incredible detail before the trip began. The view from the home of the bridge and neighboring Round Island were simply amazing. I am trying to think of there is a better view of the bridge that can be had at any other location — the pictures don’t do it justice. Some in my group as well as myself had said we could have probably sat in the “wine barrel” chair that was nestled under a tree next to the water for the entire week. The cool breeze on shore was a great relief when the sun got hot. Watching the kids play in the water and waves from that perch was a pleasure, especially since young kids could go out quite a long way without the water getting too deep. Just make sure to bring water shoes. There were a couple days where the flies were biting but they weren’t out all the time. Bring bug spray. The home itself is large and furnished appropriately to comfortably accommodate our large group. The “lighthouse” is a fun addition that provides a 360 degree view of the area. Care should be taken when going up and down the ladder to the top floor. The owners advise that children not go up there without adult supervision. This is good advice. Outside the property, we biked as well as explored the island in the side by side we trailered on the ferry. There were lots of trails, though sometimes the labeling on the trails/roads were a little confusing and didn’t quite match up with what we were seeing on the map. This made it harder to distinguish what was private property and what was not. We went fishing at the large dock at lake Thompson. It would have been nice to have a boat since most of what was caught were very small panfish or perch. The kids loved it, but I imagine an uninhabited lake like that would have some larger fish beyond the dock. There was also plenty of room for campfires and yard games which we took advantage of. Overall we were very pleased with our stay and would highly consider coming back next year if the place is available.

Incredible Experience
Our family had an incredible week at Bonum Est. We had a group of fourteen, ranging in age from 7 to 70 and everyone had space to spread out, it never felt crowded. The views from the home are absolutely beautiful and the remoteness allows you to truly unplug and relax. The inside of the home is beautiful and equipped with everything you might need on a remote island. The kitchen was nicely stocked, there were beach towels for those that may have forgotten and plenty of games and puzzles for a rainy day. The lighthouse is such a unique feature and provided great views, especially at night for viewing the stars. Outside provides uninterrupted views of Lake Huron and the Mackinac Bridge. There is a large area to play yard games, trees to hang your hammocks, and plenty of rocks for skipping (bring your water shoes!). Days were spent swimming, exploring the shores and kayaking (we rented through Boblo Style and had a great experience). One of our best memories was enjoying an evening swim while watching the fireworks from Mackinaw City. There are quite a few water snakes, but we found them to be harmless and more curious than anything. The owners were wonderful and quick to respond with our questions leading up to the trip. Thank you for sharing your home with us and we absolutely hope to return!

As good as it looks
Our stay at Bonum Est was incredible. The house is beautifully designed with large open spaces and an amazing view of the Mackinac Bridge. The sunsets were phenomenal. We rented kayaks and took trips to Round Island (just .3 mile from the house) and other parts of Bois Blanc, including Bible Beach (about 4 miles from the house). We stayed for a week with our family of 14. We were a bit concerned that we wouldn't have enough to do given there are only two restaurants on the island, but the week flew by just having fun on the beaches, hiking, and bike riding. We all watched the full moon rise from the "lighthouse" and saw lots of shooting stars. Michelle the property manager was very responsive to questions and with local info, as were Wendy and Mike. The house was well stocked with kitchen stuff, TP, paper towels, beach chairs, and beach toys for younger kids. Can't really say enough about how great the house is. We're looking forward to coming back next year!

The house was everything and more then described. The location was beautiful! The house had everything you could ask for in a rental. Probably the most stocked home of any house I have ever rented. Having the windows open offered a wonderful breeze. I stayed with my whole family 14 in all and we had enough room and didn’t feel like we were on top of each other. Thank you Mike and Wendy for sharing your wonderful home with us. Never know we may come back 😊
