Willesdene Cottage is a lovely two storey stone cottage, in the heart of the quaint, historic village of Abernethy on the border between Perthshire and Fife. With its narrow streets and pretty houses, this 18th-century cottage is a delight, with its beautiful stone walls, deep sills, original fireplace and wooden floors all adding to its charming character. Accessed via double doors into an entrance hallway with coat hooks and large storage cupboard, the cottage opens up into an open plan living, kitchen and dining area. An open stairway leads up to the two bedrooms and bathroom. A perfect choice for couples or small families, the bedrooms are cosy and tastefully decorated in soothing tones and the living room, with its comfortable sofas and log effect fire, is just the place to relax after a busy day out. The kitchen, with its red tiled floor and dining area, offers a spacious room with all modern conveniences to make and enjoy delicious meals from local produce.
The cottage is in a great position, within a short walk to the local grocery store, artisan shop and inn serving good food. At the top of the lane is a lovely children’s play park and access to Pitmedden Forest with its numerous walks, a wonderful space for enjoying the wildlife and the great outdoors. Maybe enjoy a walk up the Castle Law Hill where remains of an Iron Age Hill Fort can be found, as well as panoramic views of the surrounding area. Known as home to the Pictish Kings, Abernethy also boasts a famous 12th-century Round Tower, church and churchyard, Mercat Cross, traditional houses and new museum.
Steeped in history, Abernethy is a great place for a holiday and an ideal location for walking, cycling and sightseeing, golfing and fishing are also found nearby. In a short distance you will find farm shops, castles and distilleries to visit and many coastal walks on the Tay Estuary and beyond. Further afield, but within very easy reach, are many other places of interest such as Perth with its concert hall, theatre, museum and art galleries; St. Andrews with its famous golf course, Scone Palace, and historical Falkland with its many beautiful walks and Palace - now famed with Outlander, to name but a few. An hour’s drive will find you in Glasgow or Edinburgh or up North in the Highlands.
