Pied-a-terre in medieval Perpiggnan
A complete change from our normal rented, rustic property, with garage in the countryside, the apartment is in the St.Jean Quarter of Perpignan, nestling in the maze of ancient streets.
Quiet and very secure, we were completely at home, with the option of cooking and eating "in", or indulging in dining out - the french option of "midday formules" proved very attractive.
With a pavement restaurant outside the front door, it was susprising to find so many alternatives within a few 100 yards.
Even more surprising was a potager (Maison Delamare), cheaper than the market, a specialist boulangerie (Panisrosa), specialist butcher (chez Guillaume), fromagerie - all within easy walking distance.
Every Saturday at 1100, the St.Jean Cathedrale, uniique carillon is played for an hour - a sublime experience.
Scheduled Lio bus services to the coast (1 euro each way) and available, escorted wine tours (local pickup) - it would have been easy to spend another 2 weeks there, if not the rest of a lifetime.
