When Askham was within Westmorland, many felt it was perhaps the prettiest village in that county. Westmorland is officially no more. However Askham, with its close neighbour Lake Ullswater, remains to delight visitors. Askham has two pubs, an open air swimming pool (the paddling pool is heated), cafe, pottery and post office.
The Old Barn, dressed partially in ivy and climbing roses, tucks snugly into this picturesque slumbering village. The open plan first floor is a pleasing feature. Spacious lounge with comfortable furnishings merges with dining area whilst separate fitted kitchen is adjacent. Sleeping arrangements and bathroom are downstairs.
Endearing 17th Century cottages encircle a village green which runs down to the river Lowther. The Bird of Prey Centre is 1 3/4 miles away.
Nearby can be found the River Lowther and stately Lowther Castle set within a delightful park crowned with magnificent avenues of trees.
Village shop, swimming pool and pubs within couple of minutes walk.
An ideal area for walkers, with riverside walks close to your doorstep and within a short drive the famous Aira Force waterfalls.
