External utility room with freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer (shared). Garden area with garden furniture (shared). Barbecue. No smoking.. Minutes from Lake Ullswater. Barton Hall Farm can be found just outside Pooley Bridge, the village at the outfall of Lake Ullswater. Set in the countryside on a traditional working farm, this area offers some of the most wonderful landscapes in the region from the privacy of a secluded rural setting. It is minutes from Lake Ullswater, with its walking, water sports and ponderous steamers making their regal-like journeys up and down the lake in the shadow of the majestic fells. This area offers many forms of recreation, whatever season you choose to visit. All three cottages have been tastefully converted from original old stone farm buildings; and wherever possible the original features have been retained. Old pitch pine beams stretch unhindered through bedrooms and across stairways and the local slate and sandstone are in evidence throughout. Guests are welcomed with fresh flowers, along with well furnished comfortable holiday accommodation, wood-burning stoves and well-equipped kitchens. For good walking, fells nearby include High Street range, 1 mile, and Helvellyn, 10 miles. The market town of Penrith, 5 miles; whilst the attractions of Keswick are 14 miles. Shops, pubs and restaurants ½ mile.

The only thing I’ve marked this cottage down for is the location but that is only because of the restrictions caused by the closure of the bridge over the Eamont in Pooley Bridge. The scheduled opening of the brand new bridge was for the weekend after we left. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

We loved our stay at Mill Moor, it was very cosy and welcoming (and very very clean on arrival). Downstairs facilities including the walk in shower are prefect for anyone with mobility issues. We found the cottage very well equipped for cooking meals, especially as we didn't really want to eat out. Lots of extra things there that we would normally have to buy for a week away like hand wash, hand sanitiser, dishwasher tablets, toilet roll, cooking oil, salt, pepper etc..... Plenty of room for all of us, and our teenagers loved the fact that they didn't have to share a room. Lovely owners there to help with anything, thanks so much for the little extras (fresh flowers, cake, tea, milk on arrival). Last but not least, the fresh farm eggs are delicious! We will be returning. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

Mill Moor is one of 3 cottages at Barton Hall Farm.
Mill Moor is one of 3 cottages at Barton Hall Farm. There are 4 bedrooms and this cottage sleeps 7. On the ground floor, accessible for wheelchair user, is a twin-bedded room, next to a walk-in shower and loo. Upstairs are 2 large double bedrooms, a single, and a bathroom with bath and loo. The large comfortable lounge area with wood burning stove is good to relax in and central heating keeps the cottage warm. There is access to an outside garden with views across to the fells and mountains. Very easy via A66 to access Bassenthwaite, Buttermere and the Eden Valley. We used the car park in Pooley Bridge to start a walk along Ullswater to Howtown. New Pooley Bridge due to open end of October but it’s easy to go round on the diversion to access Glenridding etc. Amanda and Nigel very welcoming as ever. Fresh flowers, cake etc on arrival. A peaceful and quiet place to escape for a week’s break. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

Excellent spacious cottage with good parking.
Excellent spacious cottage with good parking. We were unfortunate that the bridge at Pooley Bridge was closed when we were there, hence our lower mark for location but this will not be a problem after October. Friendly owners have created a very comfortable and welcoming place to stay. The only downside is rather creaky floorboards! Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

We enjoyed our holiday at Mill Moor.
We enjoyed our holiday at Mill Moor. Spacious bedrooms, but if there are the full 7 people there's not quite so much living room. One twin bedroom is on the ground floor, so good for people who have difficulty with stairs. Usually there is good access to the Lakes, but work on Pooley Bridge means a short detour at the moment. Recommended. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

Having only viewed the cottage on the internet you never really know what you are going to get.
Having only viewed the cottage on the internet you never really know what you are going to get. However, there was absolutely no cause for concern. It was immaculately clean, extremely comfortable and very well equipped. The heating system in place ensured we were kept very warm night and day if required. We had a very warm welcome from Amanda Strong as soon as we arrived and she had even placed some home baked cookies in the kitchen along with some milk and tea bags which were very welcome after the drive. Apart from the cottage itself there was also a well equipped laundry and even a shower in the barn to wash your muddy boots or, your dog should you wish to do so. The farm was centrally placed to enable easy access to Pooley Bridge and Penrith as well as the motorway to take you further afield. Excellent base for some really lovely walks too if you didn't want to use your car. We had the larger cottage which slept seven people but should we go back (which we fully intend to do so) either as a couple or with two others there were cottages available to accommodate smaller numbers which were equally as good. We could not have wished nor, wanted for more and will not hesitate to return and recommend it to all of our friends.

We stayed in Mill Moor Cottage 16 years ago and it was lovely to be back. Everything we could have needed was provided and the cottage was spotless and very comfortable. The welcome milk, juice and cake was especially appreciated. The pubs in Pooley Bridge did fabulous food - we ate in the Pooley Bridge Inn and the Sun Inn and having vegetarians and vegans in our party it was a treat to have several menu choices in each pub. This is the 2nd time we've stayed at this property and again its perfect! Cottage/barn conversion is well equipped, location is great, not far from local shops /pubs /walks, owners are both very friendly and welcoming and are on site if needed. I'd highly recommend staying here and no doubt we shall return in the near future. Very happy indeed x

Three of the bedrooms are are a good size, and the single is adequate.
Three of the bedrooms are are a good size, and the single is adequate. The downstairs one is very convenient for guests with reduced mobility as it is next to the bathroom with shower. The stairs for the other bedrooms are quite steep. There is a downstairs single living/dining room which also contains the kitchen, and it can get quite crowded if a full compliment of adult guests are there. Overall, it is quite a pleasant cottage, and ideal for a family with children. It can feel a bit congested with a full group of adults, particularly in winter when the outside picnic space cannot be used. The walk in to Pooley Bridge across the fields is very pleasant, although rather boggy after a spell of wet weather. It is useful to have the very friendly and helpful owners on site. The usability would be improved by two relatively simple improvements. The area around the sink and cooker needs better lighting for winter use, and it would be a great advantage to have a shower in the upstairs bathroom (for which there is plenty of space).

Our sixth visit to this cottage so that says it all! Cosy, clean and very comfortable cottage with friendly welcoming owners who are in no way intrusive. Ideal location for visiting the many beautiful places around Ullswater. Lovely views from the cottage windows. Cosy wood burning stove and a great shower room. The bedrooms are all spacious and nicely furnished. We would recommend this cottage without hesitation and look forward to returning there next year!

The cottage is spacious and well equipped.
The cottage is spacious and well equipped. The kitchen area could probably do with being updated at some point but it does have a certain rustic charm and everything you need. The owners are lovely people and make you feel very welcome. I would definitely like to stay there again. I especially liked the delicious carrot cake and tea provided for us upon our arrival. The fresh flowers upstairs and downstairs are a lovely touch, along with all the bedding being changed on a weekly basis. 😁😁😁

Mill Moor is one of three self-catering cottages at Barton Hall Farm.
Mill Moor is one of three self-catering cottages at Barton Hall Farm. It can sleep up to 7 people and it very spacious for 4! Downstairs is a twin-bedded room next door to a shower and loo. The shower mirror can be operated by waving a hand over the controls and can also connect to 'bluetooth' on your phone if you wish to play music while you wash! Upstairs are two very spacious double bedrooms and a single bedroom. As ever, there were flowers and cakes to welcome us. The owners, Amanda and Nigel, are always happy to see visitors and on hand if needed. There is a practical utility room with 2 washing machines, drier and freezer, adjacent to a bike storage area with a shower for washing dogs and boots. The cottage is warm from CH radiators but we lit a log fire most evenings, especially when we had snow one day! It's an easy walk across fields to Pooley Bridge to start the Ullswater Way walk or to catch the steamer. The 508 bus also passes nearby for journeys as far as Windermere and Penrith.
