This is the second time I've booked an apt in Latin Quarter or Saint Germaine des Pres. This place was so much nicer than the last.
(Our family = Married couple, plus 4 teens. Californians who can go high or low -- we love a W hotel or a funky country cabin. Good travel experience. Not the Four Seasons type.)
General: Apt has clean/basic decor, remodeled recently, seems more of a rental than family home. Roomy common areas with big DR table and kitchen, well equipped kitchen with just enough coffee and toilet paper to get you over a few days. A few adapters on table, two sets of keys. washer (combo unit but drying takes a while). Thankfully it has AC - a must in the summer in Paris.
3 bedrooms: one en-suite master, and two additional rooms that each had two twin beds. Not huge but roomy by Paris standards. Plenty of space in armoires and drawers. Comfortable beds.
Bathroom: The other bathroom is split between a shower room (bigger, which my girls loved for doing make up and getting dressed) plus a separate toilet closet with sink across the hall. This makes it easy for a group to rotate into shower, etc. These two rooms are both situated off the DR -- meaning they are for general use and not meant as en-suites. Plenty of hot water and updated fixtures.
Location: Out the front door, you're on the Seine, and you can walk a coupla blocks to several of the romantic bridges. Go right to Notre Dame, left to Louvre, or walk deeper in Latin Q just three blocks to the heart of St GdP. Bldg is on a main street, so it's easy to get car/taxi. Metros within a few blocks any direction.
Secure: bldg with two locking doors prior to reaching the locked apt door. Small functional elevator if your luggage is heavy.
Comms: Great communication with manager/owner -- clear info and friendly remote check in.
Overall: Great!
Not a traditional French film apt with balcony or rooftop. (But FYI -- I had one of those quintessential French apts the last time I booked and the bathroom was the size of an airplane toilet, and I never opened balcony because Paris was 100 degrees and I walked up 3 flights of stairs. Never again.)
Not Versailles either. Typical apts in Paris are not American Penthouses. They are smart, efficient and simple.
Just right: Perfect for our family vacation and I'd book again in a heartbeat.
Until next time, au revoir Paris!
