The Casco Viejo of Panama is a place of historical charm where its buildings and streets take us to the city's colonial era. Almost the entire neighborhood is being restored in order to recover the historical essence of the city. It has four main squares: the Plaza de la Independencia, the first and only square for several centuries; the Plaza Bolivar and Plaza Herrera, built on vacant land left over from the fires that ravaged the city; and the Plaza de Francia, built-in 1922 to honor the French people, pioneers in the construction of the Panama Canal.
The neighborhood offers endless cultural activities and has the best restaurants and bars in the city—many of the rooftops, from where you can enjoy incredible views of the Bay of Panama.
