Caution…. The hotel did a bait and switch on me. What you see in the photos on Travelocity isn’t necessarily what you will receive. I booked and paid for a balcony suite. Instead, I was given a ground floor room. “Sorry, it’s already full.” Instead of taking any sort of responsibility, they blamed everyone but themselves. They even had the audacity to say that I was the first booking they ever had off of Travelocity. I would use caution before booking with them.
What a fabulous hotel is the Pakbeng Sanctuary Lodge. A stunning view over the Mekong River, beautiful rooms and a lovely bar/ restaurant.
There are 2 areas, the lower with superior rooms, a restaurant and swimming pool, and the upper with deluxe rooms and suites, also with a separate restaurant.
We were upgraded to a suite and it was luxurious.
The food is lovely and the drinks cold. The included breakfast was tasty.
A beautiful hotel on the top of the hill overlooking the Mekong River. They picked me up at the boat and transported me to an oasis. This place was a great way to relax after my 6 hour boat ride to get there.
The people that worked there were friendly and the view from my patio was amazing. I loved watching the sun set over the river. I only wish I could have had more time to enjoy this place before starting my second day journey to Luang Prabang.
You must stay more than one night. Trip highlight.
An absolute marvelous hotel overlooking the Mekong. If you're travelling down by boat either way make the effort to stay 2 nights and not rush off on the next morning boat. Be awakened by elephants trumpeting on the banks opposite. The rooms are plush and spacious the staff are exceptional, big thanks to Fon. Great management team. And Wendy Leggat who runs the elephant sanctuary is a gem. To visit the elephants is a must. Great pool. Very nice restaurant with a fine set menu plus breakfast is great. Highly recommended we didn't want to leave. Many thanks.
We stayed at the Sanctuary as we had stayed in the sister hotel in Luang Prabang and loved it. We found this one not to be as polished but still an enjoyable stay.
Pakbeng is a 'stop-over' place as the boat cruise along the Mekong stops here meaning there was very little around in the local vicinity meaning we didn't leave the complex. We were upgraded to a 'deluxe' room but felt it lacked that prestige feel e.g. bed wasn't as comfortable as we've had previously and only 1 pillow.
The staff were very attentive, including the manager who welcomed us personally. The food was delicious and we enjoyed a bottle of red wine in the room as well as with dinner as it was so good. The view is exquisite along the Mekong and we even saw elephants bathing in the water on the opposite bank at 7am as we left. Amazing.
The hotel has it's own private pier to the river so our cruise picked us up there which was a real perk. The team helped us with our bags to the river making the whole process very easy.
We requested a breakfast box as we were leaving so early and were spoilt! We had an omelette each, crepes, toast with butter/jam and fresh fruit. Excellent.
Great hotel, staff were really helpful and friendly. Lovely view

Seriously I don't understand how people give this place 10/10 the best thing about the place was the view.
The room was ok.
The water to the room was intermittent. Twice I was in the shower covered in suds and the water stopped. On mentioning this to staff they seemed surprised although looking at other reviews this has been an issue for 4 years.
The menu was limited with only one vegetarian option. The beer was 3 times more expensive than elsewhere.
The elephants across the river were about 1 km away. Don't believe the pictures.
This place is expensive compared to elsewhere and I certainly wouldn't stay here again. Oh and the WiFi was terrible.
We had a very brief stay at this beautiful hotel. Staff were amazing with a very big welcome from Ben the manager. Rooms were beautiful with all the amenities you need. The view was amazing and the town while very primitive, very interesting. Would have liked to stay another night the appreciate the area.
Our stay here was fantastic. The staff are amazing, Ben , the GM,was incredibly helpful and the resort is gorgeous. To wake up in the morning and see elephants bathing in the Mekong is magical. If you’re traveling through Pakbeng consider staying for a day or two we look forward to coming back....

Lovely hotel on the banks of the Mekong. Beautiful river views from our balcony. Half board included a very good dinner. Staff and service were excellent.
We were on a Mekong river cruis from Chiang Rai to Luang Probang and stayed overnight her. Excellent place, wonderful staff and excellent food. Would stay again
The hotel is very clean and comfortable which was a change from many places along the river. The view of the sunset was amazing! We pre-ordered dinner since we are vegetarians and it was super delicious. It rained that night and some rain came in under our front door, that was the only issue.
They initially had only one of our two rooms booked but sorted it out quickly with no fuss. Setting on riverside was great and watched elephants bathing at breakfast time. Evening set menu was very good. If you wanted an alternative meal then you could walk into the village. Staff helpful and friendly. A good choice for a mid range hotel in Pakbeng.
Hôtel avec très belle vue sur le Mékong.
Pas de restauration autour, il faut manger à l'hôtel (menu à 12$)
Piscine très agréable avec vue sur le Mékong.
