Aloha!
The 'Nice, Big House is a private 3 bedroom /1.5 bath fully furnished town house w/ 4 beds (3 beds downstairs and 1 on the 3rd floor) which is part of a larger building with two private studios attached. This 'unique' design allows us to rent it for less and helps ensure our guests privacy. We have been renting this home for 10 years now and most customers really enjoy their stay. You may be surprised at some very famous people who have stayed here including performers from Cirque Du Soleil.

When you rent this home - all linen, kitchen utensils, bath tissue, 3 TV’s w/ Netflix, Roku, landline phone, and Wi-Fi are provided at no extra cost. It has a wonderful distant ocean view and it's less than 10 minutes from the Kalapana Lava fields, 20 minutes to Pohoiki and 3 minutes to Kehena Beach. Due to the recent eruption, Puna now has several black sand beaches ( Kehena, Pohoiki, Mackenzie Beach and sea caves, Kaimu and Kapoho beaches. Some hiking required to Mackenzie and Kapoho Beaches. All beaches in Puna are black sand w/ rock. Kehena and Pohoiki are the best beaches and are nearby.

Nice, Big House has been the home to visitors around the world for about 10 years now and many return to this wonderful and well kept home.

It's a wonderful place to stay if you want to be centered in the Puna District of Hawaii (Kalapana), which is one of the most beautiful places on earth.

This is a sunny spot of the island where there is less rain! Although it rains much less down here, our area remains green and beautiful.
Many people come to Puna to visit Volcano National Park - home of Kilauea and the periodic lava flows and beaches.
There are also Hawaiian jungles, tropical rain forests, beautiful coastal views, thermal ponds at Pohoiki, surfing/ snorkeling, whale watching due to migration to warm Hawaiian waters during winter months.
You can often see them from land swimming off our beautiful coast and at the Kehena Beach view point.
Many of my tenants tell me that they were able to swim w/ dolphins and you can too.

For those of you who are seeking night time entertainment, check out 'Uncles Outdoor Hawaii Bar' if you want to sip a beer, listen to live Hawaiian music, eat great food and enjoy a farmers market at the same time.

Kilauea Volcano is just a 45-60 minute drive.
In addition, the KaMauna Caves are on the way where you can walk through huge lava tubes.

The unit is situated in a safe, quiet & friendly Hawaiian neighborhood off Kalapana-Kapoho Rd.

This 3 BR / 1.5 BATH house & loft w/ an ocean view and within walking distance to a park situated on the coast w/ a spectacular ocean view, and Kehena Black Sand Beach.

There is a lot to see on our side of the island: 4-5 beaches, lava fields, fishing areas, Akaka, Kahuna and Rainbow Falls, Boiling Pots, hiking, Farmers Market (1/2 block away), Space Community Arts Center, Keck Observatory, Kilauea , Uncles Bamboo Tiki Bar w/ live music, cafes, food markets, Volcanoes Nat'l Park, Kamauna Caves and so much more.

My mission is to make sure that you have what you need to make your visit a happy, and memorable experience ! This is a great place to relax and enjoy nature. Many people come to Kalapana to 'get away from it all and breath clean air, eat great food, soak up the sunshine, exercise, commune with nature, and meet some wonderful people. So come and find out 'what the aloha spirit really is'. We invite you to come to one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Other accomodations are available as well, please inquire for details about our completely private studios attached to house on the side of building and Oceanfront cottages that are near by.

PLEASE NOTE - there is NO POOL at this house. Ocean is walking distance - an easy 10 short blocks down the street.

You will love this beautiful house in coastal Puna.

Wonderful getaway!
My family of 4 had a wonderful stay for two nights at this property. The home was spacious and well-stocked, and the location was perfect for exploring the Kalapana/Pahoa/Pohoiki area. Check in was a breeze, and communication from the owners was extremely helpful. We would definitely stay here again!

Unique place to stay
We enjoyed this house. It is really unusual in a good way. The whole area is very earthy and unique. This house fit the 5 of us easily and has what you need. We drank the water through a Britta, but they suggest you don’t. Keep that in mind if you are worried about it. The thermal pools are a variety of hot temperatures. They would be more fun when it is cool out. We happened to go when it was hot. The views from MacKenzie State Park are amazing, and the beach nearby has a little bit of a steep hike down (we didn’t have trouble) and clothing optional…keep that in mind. Overall, the space is great. The covered porch is wonderful in the morning. The hosts were helpful as well.

Peaceful and relaxing
This great property was home base for our recent week in Hawaii. The house itself is lovely and open, with lots of room for our family of 4. We loved having breakfast on the lanai, and popping down the street (10mins) to sit in the ocean thermal pools at Isaac Hale in the mornings. It is a ways outside of Hilo, so if you’re looking for something close to it all, this is not it - but we found it just as easy to travel into Hilo, the volcano national park, and even Kona on various day trips. Then to come home to our space and have a home-cooked meal. Would highly recommend staying here if you’re looking for peace and relaxation during your Hawaiian stay.

Great out of town location
This was a great house in an out of town location for those looking for peace and quiet. No cell signal really and the beaches are more rocky than sandy but the locals are nice and there is a great farmers market. The house was awesome and communication with the owners was stellar.

Great stay Magical area
We had a great time at the big house. Plenty of space to spread out. Incredible lanai, walkable neighborhood, and beautiful scenery. FYI The house is shared with two other tenants, so we had to try to manage the kid noise, but otherwise we had an awesome stay. We will definitely be back!

Peaceful Home
We are a family of five and stayed here for five nights in August. The pictures don't do the house justice. I suggest the owners post more photos of their beautiful home. We were very comfortable and revelled in the spaciousness. The kitchen is upstairs, which is different. My only complaint is that there isn't a dishwasher, so we had to put the kids on dish duty. There isn't air conditioning but plenty of fans. After you open the windows, there is a wonderful breeze and the rooms cool off. The only night it felt a little warm was when it was raining and the humidity was high. We were unable to open two windows for more air, but we survived just fine. A number of people complain about the coqui frogs who call out to each other most of the night. It is true, they can be loud, (I brought ear plugs). I would much rather fall asleep to frogs and wake up to a rooster than to traffic and loud music any day. We took advantage of the large porch for reading and just enjoying the quiet. If you happen to be up late at night, look to the sky, and you'll see the Milky Way and all the stars. Mila the housekeeper was very helpful. The house was spotless when we arrived. It is located in a more remote area, about 20 minutes from Pahoa, but we didn't mind. We enjoyed exploring the area.

Spacious and comfortable home
Home is spacious and very comfortable and was very clean. Beds were very comfortable. The only downside was no AC. The fans and ocean breeze help greatly though, but at times it can be very warm inside. Owner was great to work with.

big-spacious house. a tad far from east side island activities and Hilo. would have liked bbq cleaned and grill supplies. we took care of it. house was clean. lanai wonderful. However, one of the kids woke up one morning with insect bites all over his back. First morning, i had bites all over my feet. maybe this is coinicidence and unrelated to the house? not sure though. liked the activity list on the fridge. owner was nice and greeted us on arrival. big island is beautiful.

Roomy, comfortable home near Kalapana.
Great location to use as home base to explore the volcano area and a few isolated, uncrowded beaches along the Kalapana/ Pahoa coastal area. The home was clean and tidy! We loved sitting out on the lanai in the morning to have our Hawaiian breakfast with fresh pineapple and Portugese sausage!

Great place to stay!
Andre and Susan’s home was very nice! Thank you so much for sharing it with us! I wanted to stay on this side of the Big Island this time (last time we stayed in Kona area) so we could see lava flow. It was very convenient to the lava flow area, Volcano National Park (~45 min away), the Kehena black sand beach (5 min drive, and just beautiful!) and Kapoho tidal pools (~25 min drive, also really cool!). We really liked the location, and that it felt “remote” but was still very convenient to where we wanted to go. We didn’t actually get to see the lava flow (the last car allowed in is at 8:30 pm) but the man at the gate said it wasn’t really flowing anyway, and it would have still been an 8-10 (?) mile hike from the parking area—so when I heard that, I was okay with that! :) I think Andre mentioned you could walk/bike from the lava fields down the “main road”, but we didn’t get to do that. The house was clean and well-stocked (we made breakfast every morning of our stay). Andre came and personally gave us the key and quick tour of the place, and outlined the nearby sites. There was no A/C, but the cross breezes and ceiling fans did keep the main floor and upper loft cool overall. For the warmer downstairs rooms, there were fans in each room, so that helped. I must have mis-read the number of bathrooms (I thought there were 2, but there are 1.5 which is what the property details showed when I looked again), but that being said, there were 7 of us, and there was plenty of hot water with good water pressure. :) This was our first time using VRBO, and thanks to Andre, it was a great experience! Mahalo!

Clean and spacious
This is a perfect house to relax. It is big and clean. Our family of four (2 adults and 2 teenagers) stayed here 6 nights. So there was plenty of room to spread out. We didn't even use all the bedrooms. It is about a 45 minute drive to Hilo. But we knew that and were prepared with a stash of food from Costco. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking stuff and condiments (foil to line the pans would have made clean up faster :)). We cooked breakfast every morning, made sandwiches most days for lunch, and either cooked a simple dinner or brought take out from Hilo. The house has lanai areas but we never sat outside because bugs find us tasty. Andre met us at the house with the key. That was a very nice touch! Posted on the refrigerator are places you can visit. He was available to help with more specific directions, like how to get to the snorkeling hole nearby. We also enjoyed the warm pool at Ahalanui Beach Park. We went in the morning so it wasn't crowded. We were very blessed to see lava: at the crater and flowing into the ocean. The Crater is more than an hour away but to get to the trailhead to view the lava flowing into the ocean is about 20 minutes away. We rented bikes from the trailhead. We enjoyed hanging out on the main floor of the house. We watched TV because we don't have TV reception at home, the refrigerator was close by, and the high ceilings made it the coolest floor. Thanks for letting us stay at your house! We have fabulous memories.
