Stunning Mahoora tents
It started with a bad surprise, for which I would blame Hotels.com as they showed pictures of the Mahoora tents, but booked us in the Big Game tent… a lower standard. Once that issue was cleared, we truely enjoyed our stay… the Mahoora tent is amazing, in a stunning environment. Service is great, candle dinner is amazing… and the safari organization was perfect.

Sri Lanka tour January 22
Well spaced out tented accommodation in a glorious lakeside setting. Very helpful courteous staff and excellent knowledgeable guide for nature walks. Solar power and recycling of plastics helps eco credentials. Basic shower facility but ‘does the job’. Food was very authentic Sri Lankan. And what could be better than sitting under a star lit sky eating dinner with a central wood fire! A very short drive to Wilpattu national park entrance. All in all a pleasant comfortable stay. Very good value bearing in mind luxury tented accommodation on Sri Lanka is three times the cost!

An unforgettable experience
I cannot recommend this place highly enough. It was an absolutely amazing experience to stay there. It’s a luxury campsite with large spacious tents. The beds are very comfy and each tent has a fully equipped bathroom including hot water. The campsite is beautiful and is located right in the middle of the jungle, so you can wake up to the lovely sound of birds and insects in the morning. The staff were so enthusiastic and knowledgeable and friendly. The hotel manager is a big fan of David Attenborough and can speak in a very knowledgeable manner about all of the wildlife in the park, it was truly very humbling to listen to him and how much they all cared about conservation. We were very pleased to see that the whole site was very eco-friendly, lots of it was run on solar power, and it was completely plastic-free. They give you stylish glass bottles with clean water in them so that you don’t have to use lots of plastic bottles. In the evening there is tea on the lawn followed by an incredible dinner in a clearing in the jungle. Before dinner a member of staff came to the tent and collected us and then led us through the campsite which was all lit up by lanterns through the jungle and into this beautiful clearing where tables had been set up under the stars. It was truly amazing to sit under the stars and have a freshly prepared meal (the food is included in the cost), and a cold beer after a long day Safari. We had an amazing stay.

Fabulously unique experience
Its a campsite, If you want a hotel experience dont go here however, For a great stay with a real difference its fab. The staff are really helpful the food was good the tent was great and there were plenty of thoughtful touches, Torch provided, power to charge phones, Safari picnic breakfast supplied even though we didn't use their safari etc. There were Loads of bugs and critters, frogs in the shower etc but Hey, Its a jungle. Take plenty of deet and enjoy it for what it is, we would stay here again.

Great safari
We stayed for 2 nights in April 2018. Staff were lovely from the minute we arrived. So friendly and helpful. We did the full day safari offered by Big Game Camp which was brilliant. The naturalist knew so much, was really friendly and accommodating. We saw leopards, elephants, crocodiles, monkeys and wild boar, amongst other animals (but I think we were particularly lucky). It was a brilliant day, would recommend. The tent was very nice and spacious and had a comfortable bed and a fan. The bathroom was in a separate ‘room’ within the tent. The shower was just cold water and not strong so probably not one for washing your hair in. Basic but nice. In the evenings we were taken to the campfire for a drink - lovely. Then dinner was outside, romantic. The food was tasty but the main course was disappointingly English on both nights - barbecued meat and fish with boiled potatoes and veg, plus some rice. Drinks were reasonably priced. After dinner it was a little lacklustre as it was assumed we would go back to the tent which was dark with a small light - not ideal at 9pm! But we asked if we could stay at the campfire and have a glass of wine and the staff were very polite and said this was ok. It would better if there was a more lit area to sit in the evening and maybe a bar. Breakfast was better with fresh fruit, toast, roti. Camp was very difficult to find, you had to follow the sign for ‘Eco team’.

Not quite a luxurious camp experience
Booked for a night stay due to its proximity to Wilpattu National Park which was nice for the early morning safari tour. Staff were very nice and friendly but seems a bit disorganized sometimes. We also expected a bit more from the condition of the camp itself due to their pricing and marketing as a luxury camp. The camp is only furnished with a simple double bed and an extremely small table with a small lamp which barely light up the room at night. Also encountered a big rat in the attached bathroom in the tent at night because the tent had holes which the rats can enter and this is a bit unnerving for someone who is afraid of rats. The night has a big dip in temperature and therefore was a bit chilly but the only blanket provided was a thin sheet. Had to get up to put on thicker clothes to keep warm.

Camp and site was well maintained and clean. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. The Breakfast and Dinning location is very beautiful, and the meals were on point. The safari they organized was totally worth it since we saw everything we had to in a matter of a few hours. Will always go back.

PERFECT GETAWAY IN THE WILD!
Totally loved every minute of our stay! We were warmly welcomed and all the staff were super friendly and always willing to help. Our safari was well organized and we were very lucky to have seen a lot of different wildlife. The BBQ dinner with a campfire and candles was amazing under a clear sky and plenty of stars. Can't think of anything to complain of. Perfect 2 days spending our wedding anniversary!

Great tented camp experience!
On arrival the staff had no record of our booking. We also discovered they did not take credit card and we did not have enough cash for the game drives.....however, after some initial confusion, we were shown our tent, which was fine - big enough, surrounded by bush, birds and butterflies and with hammock! The staff were excellent - kind and attentive. We went for our game drive (but were unable to negotiate a discount for 2 drives - maybe you'll have more luck! we paid $110 per drive for 2 people, $220 for both drives). The park is gorgeous - more forested than Africa, but fewer people. Safari vehicle ideal. Saw a leopard!! After the drive, they took us to the ATMs in town to get cash, which took several attempts in four banks, but we got it! Problems solved!! Back for tea and biscuits, and get ready for dinner. There were holes in the tent and rats had smelled our food. However, they told us not to keep food in the tent and they took it away and looked after it, sewed up the holes and problem completely solved! Dinner was BBQ sat around an open fire - fantastic!!! They serve wine - pricey at LKR1000 a glass! Next day up at 5 for the morning drive - tea and coffee and snacks offered, and off to the park. All great - no leopards or bears but lakes, birds, scenery. Breakfast served from the vehicle in the wild!!! Wonderful! Back to pack and off to Colombo. We arranged our own transport as their was far more expensive. Overall - brilliant - totally recommend!

Disappointing experience
It's definitely not a luxury camping experience. The facility is not clean and food is so so. It's not worth for the money we spent. The most serious problem is getting contact with the camp. We want to do a full day safari and we tried all means to contact the hotel - email/phone/whatsapp/hotels.com link but there's no reply. We end up arranging safari through our driver. It's quite disappointing.

Great camp place
First - this is a camp with tents so you cannot expect hotel level amenities. Unless you have been camping before it may be dirty and discusting. If you have been camping you probably will find this quite luxurious, clean and working. The tents are relatively big and have working toilets and showers. They are clean - considering they are in a "jungle" or at least in rural woods. We had a few scorpions (tiny) and lizards accompanying us, but they are not dangerous. The staff was really friendly and wanted to make you feel as much home as possible. Having breakfast and dinner outside was nice. The food was simple but tasted good. There was no options available, but it was possible before hand to let them know what you will eat, so I guess everyone got something according to their preferencies. If you want to experience a stay in the wilderness I totally recommend, but do remember that this is not a hotel, it really is a tent camp.

Mal was anderes

The service was great!! not many various animals
The Staff service was amazing. they were always trying to make us as comfortable as they could with full of their hospitality. It was exactly professional service. If we have one thing to notice, whereas the manager told us we could get hot shower, we couldn't. The time was very hot, so actually no problem. We hope Wilpattu National Park will get better to see more various animals in the near future.
