The house is in a great location, within walking distance to the beach, restaurants, and coffee. The bedrooms are all located upstairs which makes for a great separation of living and sleeping spaces. The hot tub and fire pit were family favorites!
We enjoyed our stay in the Friends By the Sea home. The house was very comfortable, clean and had a fairly well stocked kitchen. The home had a very welcoming feel to it. We will be back!
We enjoyed our stay. The location is good except for the short walk along the busy road to get across to the beach. The walk was short and easy but I wish there were sidewalks. Cars go fast through town. Also, we could not get the three upstairs TVs to work which was a bummer. Home was well equipped with beach chairs and towels. We enjoyed the hot tub.
We had a great time! No complaints. Clean, pet friendly, lots of fun stuff to do, fenced back your was great for the pups. Would like to come back in the summer and take advantage of the fire pit. Mahalo!
It worked well for us! Nice kitchen & back yard area. Really enjoyed the hot tub & fire pit. Played lots of foosball in the garage! Easy walk to pelican brewery & the beach.
We had so much fun this weekend. Close to the beach easy walk maybe 5min if even. Loved the neighborhood and the house. Plenty of space for our group of 7. Love the hot tub and fire pit in the backyard made for wonderful evenings. I would definitely rent this house again, we had so much fun.
This house was in the perfect location with walking distance to beach, restaurants and stores. We enjoyed the hot tub in the evening after walking the beach. The house was spacious and clean. We couldn’t figure out the TV and Katie was so kind to come over the first night to show us.
We loved the house with fenced back yard , hot tub and fire pit . The Kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. Easy walk to the beach. Great place to bring out dogs . Only disappointment was the dart game in the garage was broken and the yard could have used a little weeding but we had a great stay .
Very clean house, good layout, short walk to the beach. Wish we could have stayed longer! Kept hearing a hooting type noise and rumbling noise outside - turned out to be the ocean wind in the rocks, sound transmitted all the way to the neighborhood! Nature is amazing.
My family and I (5 adults, 2 children) stayed for 3 fabulous nights. This house has a perfect floorplan with an open kitchen/dining/living area that is just right for folks who want to enjoy time together. Bedrooms are spacious and house is well insulated so sound does not travel. Game room is fantastic and offered us tons of fooseball fun! Hot tub is clean, warm, and in great condition. Will definitely stay here again.
The property is as described and the property manager was extremely helpful when we had trouble figuring out how to operate the TV.
She drove several miles in the evening to help us negotiate the channels!
Great family home with plenty of space and amenities
Perfect area. We loved the back yard and the house was very close to the beach. This home had everything we needed. My family enjoyed the stay and didn’t want to leave. Only had minimal issues. The house is pet friendly and had a urine smell downstairs but we left the windows open and it seem to clear it and the beds needed a little more support. Deer were walking right through the yard. It was pretty cool. The management was great to deal with very friendly and helpful. Went above and beyond. Over all a great home, I definitely recommend it.
The house was a great location for us. Walking distance to the beach and also close to the local grocery store and a skate park. The fenced in back yard was perfect for our pets. The kitchen was sufficient for our needs. There were plenty of bath towels, kitchen towels, beach towels and dog towels for us all! In addition, it was a nice surprise that each bedroom had its own tv and the beds were fairly comfortable. Also, the living room tv had an awesome surround sound system which made it seem like we were watching movies in a theater. We liked having the garage as a bonus space. Enjoyed the bikes and there was a dune sled that our kids tried out. The house is a bit dated and has some wear and tear, but understand it’s a rental house and we weren’t particular about the condition. The hot tub could use a good cleaning, but it was still nice and hot enough. We would definitely consider staying again.

Fine place
The house was lovely, however, the experience dealing with the managers was a lot. She called me multiple times after booking asking accusatory questions assuming I booked the place for a wild party. Then called me again after we left to accuse me of having a wild party due to the amount of garbage left (there was no recycling bin there, so all of our recycling and trash went in the garbage, 3 bags total). We attended the house with the number of guests I told her the first time and did not have a party. Other than the accusations, the house was clean and the amenities were nice.
This house was perfect for our family and extended family. We enjoyed playing with out Granddaughter who was almost 2 in the spacious family room. Also my Son-in-law and Sister had fun with the foosball and played many games. My Daughter's Mother-in-Law and my friend took one of the bikes out for a ride. The bedrooms were spacious and my only complaint is that the curtains need to block out more light as one of the rooms they were not long enough and they were not sufficient in the bunk room where the 2 year old slept. Other than that the house was perfect for our needs. The kitchen was spacious. The table sat out entire group. We had a nice fire outside. We didn't have time to use the hot tub but I am sure it would have been fun too. I would definitely rent this house again if I were to go to Cape Kiwanda for its' proximity to the Pelican Pub where we had two meals. The beach out in front of the pub was perfect too for a 2 year old too!
My family had an absolutely wonderful time (loved the foosball!) The whole house was clean, fresh, and well-stocked with everything we needed, including enough beach towels for a family of 5.
The fenced-in yard was perfect for our pooch to wander around, and the gate is secure enough that when he spotted deer grazing right outside the home(!), they were safe from his attempts at friendship-making. The hot tub looks a tiny bit dated but is well-maintained and quite private. The hose makes a weird sound and you need it to rinse your feet before getting in the tub, but you can only really hear it if you're inside while the hose is being used.
The garbage cans are bear-safe, so if you haven't seen that before, it can be tricky to suss out, and the instructions are a bit sun-faded. And the showers are the type where you pull down on the faucet, which my children hadn't seen before and took some explaining at first. But the water pressure is good, both showers were used simultaneously at one point and there were no complaints.
Places can shut down early by city standards, so be sure to check times because we missed out on the taco/burger joint, sadly. Beach Walk was our favorite of the local restaurants and the market was within walking distance and was pleasantly well-stocked.
This was a quiet, clean, very relaxing getaway location with easy access to the local beach, a town that is mindful of tourists, and a great home base if you want to travel up and down the coast.
It's a nice location and the house is comfortable, but it's readily apparent that no one's ever *lived* there. You know how some house rentals are charming and full of the owner's personality? Books, art, well-loved toys, curated knick knacks... this is the opposite of that.
The development has big HoA energy, including an idiotic sign prohibiting walking the 50 ft to the neighboring skatepark* (and future playground). They're big expensive houses that I'm sure are also nice inside, but it all feels real nimby and cookie cutter. So instead of feeling like you're house-sitting in a neighborhood and helping out some homeowner, it's abundantly clear there are corporations at every step.
The house itself was clean, quiet and comfortable. But one bunk bed ladder's loose screws let it pull in/out a full inch; one bicycle's handlebars were totally loose in the stem; a kitchen stool's bolts had loosened so much it was downright dangerous to sit on; the door handle to the garage was wobbling around in the door; the garage door sensor was knocked off so the door wouldn't close; etc etc.
None of these are a big deal, they're all 2-minute fixes if you have the tools: I share them because they describe the vibe of a house that feels like it was built by a corporate algorithm and then walked away from.
It's great walking distance to town and the beach, and we had good time. But staying there felt like being part of the problem with US real estate.
And the sandbox isn't there, either.

Good Location, Not Well Maintained, Surveillance Cameras
I booked this VRBO for a family retreat. My parents, My brother and his family and me and my family all stayed. The positives about this VRBO are location (amazing location!) and amenities like hot tub and fire pit. We didn't get to use the game area in the garage because we were so busy, but it looked fun. The sound system on the TV is AMAZING! The washer and dryer are top notch!
The negatives: the property is not well maintained. The bikes were broken, the oven billowed black smoke when turned on, the grill runs super hot so we had to turn the burners on one side on low and cook on the other, You can't use the garbage disposal. The carpet needs cleaning. There are tiles missing in the bathroom and mold along the floor.
The house has many rules and they are set forth as if they are for frat boys. We didn't have any problem with any of the rules, it's just that you can say things nicely and make people feel welcome. The owners of this home are not happy to have you there, they consider you lucky to be there and they fully expect you to screw up. That's the vibe.
Finally, the cameras. It is pretty shocking to be sitting outside in the hot tub when the camera suddenly comes on. Make no mistake, you are being watched. I asked the property manager about it and she refused to directly answer my question if they took and have video and pictures of my family. I found it disturbing. Be aware.
Location and amenities make the place. But there are real negatives.
