OSPEDALETTI LIGURE
Nice and typical sea side liguria resort, situated between SANREMO 4 km east side and BORDIGHERA 4 km West side. public bus connection every 30 minutes with bus stop just 10 meters outside the upstairs exit gate.
In Ospedaletti you can find a nice promenade with secular plane trees all along of it, with several caffè/bars, selling also ice creams etc. One is the Alexandra situated just on the front of the old hotel Regina, now transformed in apartments privately own. Next to the Regina, unfurtunately still to day date in a abandonmed state, among an old garden, you can see what it has been during the years 800/part of 1900 the first Casino in Italy. Recently the Town Administration has bought the property and there is a plan of restoring into a social meeting center. Just opposite the Regina Hotel you will find the tennis courts and in the garden also a children play ground.
After the Bar Alexandra, turning left you will find the Farmacia just in case.
Best restaurants you will find on the sea front promenade. Are all good and basically the cuisine is specialized in fish based on the local olive oil named Taggiasca which is cultivated on the hills behind the coast from Albenga to the french border since the old years 1200. The nearest to our apartments is the Biblos, but wolking along the sea border for about 500 meters you will find some more and all very good.
The above mentioned sea-front promenade, with pedestrian side and By cicle track runs along the resort for about 1 mile, and if you wish use a bycicle the track will take you to Sanremo and further on for 30 Km east to Imperia . Bycicles on rent just near the old and no more in use Railway station.

What to do while in Ospedaletti
EXCURSIONS FROM OSPEDALETTI
1) MONACO/MONTECARLO. About 25 km each way. West side. Going there you are in the middle of the Cote d'Azur mondanity. You can stop the car just in front of the famous Casino. Parking spaces with entrances all sides of the gardens. All around the Casino you can see the most exclusive moda shops. You can have also a small lunch at the Caffè de Paris just in front of the Casino at a reasonable cost.
After, you can take a public bus close the Hotel Hermitage, on your right side looking to the Casino indication on the bus: MONACO VILLE and you go up to the end and you will be in Monaco Ville. Here, looking at the indications you can see the Prince Palast and visit the famous Acquarium. To come back starting from the same point where you stopped you can take the bus back to the CASINO. I suggest not to use the car visiting Monaco and Montecarlo becouse of the traffic and the many one way streets.
2) VENTIMIGLIA Fryday morning market. This is the largest market on this area. My suggestion is to go there either by public bus or by train. In case of train remember that Ospedaletti has got no more the railway station so you should use your car either to Bordighera or Sanremo (¾ Km) and catch the train from there. May I suggest Bordighera easier to reach and more parking facilities.
3) NERVIA VALLEY.About 20 Km each way. This is a very interesting day and you can use your car for this excursion. You should drive first to Bordighera, passing along the old Via Romana until the resort of Vallecrosia and after it you will find the bridge over the river Nervia (no water during dry summers) and after the bridge turn on your right. You will first cross the town of Camporosso, but the most interesting for the visitors is the next village of DOLCEACQUA. Here it pays to stop the car and visit both the new as well the old part of the village. The modern part is on your left driving from the coast, while the old part will be on your right side over the river. This side is the most interesting and you can reach it using either one of the two bridges on the river, either the modern one or the old one. and after you can walk along the old and small alleys (locally called “carruggi)”.
4) Close to the modern bridge, there is the main church which pays a visit, and next to it in the small square you can see a restaurant, which is a quite good one where you can try some of the tipical ligurian dishes, such as “Ravioli al sugo”, and “Coniglio alla Ligure” (Rabbit).Very good local wines are the “Rossese” red wine suitable with roasted meets, and “Vermentino” dry white wine very good with fish.
Before leaving Dolceacqua do not forget to visit the (now restored) OLD CASTLE of Prince Doria who were a Noble family originated from Genoa owning this part of Liguria during the middle age time.
Another two interesting villages after Dolceacqua are Rocchetta Nervina and Apricale, and after, still driving inside the valley, you can find Pigna and over still Castel Vittorio and the last one will be Buggio. In all of these villages you can find plenty of small restaurants (trattorie) each with good food accompanied by the local wines which are the Rossese (red) and the Vermentino (dry White).
5) TAGGIA & THE ARGENTINA VALLEY: Drive first trough Sanremo and after to Arma di Taggia. When you will find a large roundabout turn left direction in-land. Driving along the small stream Rio Argentina head north in the valley. You can make a short stop in the Villages along the itinerary such as Badalucco and Molini di Triora. In each one of them you will find good trattorie (restaurants) where to stop for trying the local gastronomy. In Badalucco for instance, if you are lucky you could find a plate called in local dialect “Branda Cujun” which is a very tastefull speciality based on stockfish. Triora situated about 30 km. Inland at about 900 mt. Above the sea level is famous for the middle age legend of the process of the witches and there is still a little museum dedicated.
Wishing you a very pleasant holiday in Ospedaletti
