Country House High Standard Quiet Relaxing Spacious Lush Eco-Property Child-Safe

Experience an unforgettable holiday in our high-quality and sustainable country house, built according to Andalusian-Arabian tradition, in the middle of refreshing nature in the evergreen "Las Alpujarras", the fertile southern slopes between the Sierra Nevada (Spain's largest national park) and the coast. This unique mountain landscape is blessed with ubiquitous bubbling water in springs, mountain lakes, wild streams, rivers and medieval Moorish irrigation canals all over.
The ecologically certified and completely climate-neutral property is nestled between fruit avocado orange and centenary olive trees in an evergreen subtropical garden with large lawns, a pool area and parking next to the house on a flat land of 3.300m2. Right next door begins the wild nature, pine forests and gorges. From the house you have an unobstructed view of the mountains, the valley and the village.
It offers the perfect opportunity to experience and enjoy the authentic and genuine Andalusia.
Órgiva is only 1km away and can easily be reached by car in a few minutes or on foot in just 10 minutes. It is a 25 minute drive to the coast, 40 minutes to Granada and just over an hour to the Sierra Nevada ski resorts.

FURNISHING
The house is characterized by its spacious interior, its good and high-quality equipment, the modern Air/Con and heating systems in all rooms as well as an exceptionally good building structure and thermal insulation. This guarantees a pleasant room temperature in winter and on hot summer days.

Everything is of good quality and carefully selected and has everything you need for a comfortable stay and a relaxing holiday. (high efficient aerothermal heating and air conditioning in all rooms, open fireplace, Free 500 Mbps WiFi, 43 Smart TV incl. international TV + Sport + Cinema, well-equipped kitchen with modern oven, dishwasher and large refrigerator, various coffee machines, sharp kitchen knives, large, delicate Bordeaux red wine glasses, wooden garden furniture, Lafuma relaxation loungers).

We attach great importance to the cleaning and disinfection of our holiday accommodations.

The large organic community pool is 9x4m, has shallow steps across the entire width of the pool that can also be used as a bench and a 4x2m paddling pool. It is only used by the guests of our three holiday homes and is naturally chlorinated with salt without chemicals.

The lawns around the pool are so extensive that each accommodation has its own area, its own large parasol and each guest has their own Lafuma relax sun lounger for exclusive use.

The entire pool area and sunbathing areas are protected so that small children cannot go to the water unsupervised. In the extensive gardens there is a tower slide, a giant tire swing and a playground with a badminton net.

During the winter we like to cheer our guests on in our Finnish sauna and also operate the pool all year round.

Maria and I live about 50m away, hidden from view by the rich vegetation, in the large main house of the property, in which there are two other holiday apartments.

THE ENVIRONMENT
The holiday villa is settled into the real heart of the Alpujarra, in the middle of the fertile southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada and its impressive flora and fauna. This green Garden of Eden stands out above all for its strong contrasts between Arabic, terraced and irrigated cultural landscapes and its wild alpine landscapes as well as for its year-round mild and sunny microclimate.

You can go on hikes through the valley or to the surrounding hills and mountains directly from the holiday home. Excursions to the picturesque mountain villages or to the snow-capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada can be made by car. The spectacular mountain range reaches a height of 3,484 m and is home to the most diverse flora in its five climatic zones between the subtropical coastal region and its glacier as of the clearest starry sky in Europe .

Órgiva offers numerous street cafes and restaurants, small shops, a colorful weekly market and a market hall which offers al kind of fresh groceries on fish, meat, vegetable and herb stalls, as well as a sound infrastructure of small grocery stores, organic shops, ATMs, a post office and a small emergency hospital. We like to describe Orgiva as a "normal", i.e. naturally grown village with a touch of New Age, but not as touristy.

ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS IN THE AREA
Blessed with plenty of sun and mild weather all year round, this region offers an endless variety of possibilities, activities and holiday arrangements. The Mediterranean environment - part fertile cultural landscape, part wild nature - between the sunny coast and high mountains has its own character and culture. It is consistently green in winter and also in midsummer and an ideal spot to explore the real Andalusia, away from the tourist hustle and bustle.

There are inexhaustible possibilities for the nature lover. Countless hiking routes lead through olive and orange groves, past picturesque mountain villages, vineyards and wineries, through forests, wide valleys and narrow gorges, to crystal-clear mountain streams, spring lagoons and snow-capped peaks.

The nearby coast offers in addition to lively coastal towns many small and hidden bays. Some have only a small fish restaurant and others have only sand or rocks. Some can only be reached on foot.

This region offers all year round - even in the winter season - the possibility of relaxation and all kind of different activities as well as its varied gastronomic offer. Because in every season the region lives to the fullest and sights, cafes, restaurants and fish restaurants on the beaches are open all year round.

The picturesque student city of Granada is only 50km away and is an inexhaustible source of beauty and culture. In addition to the countless sights of its Moorish history and its UNESCO World Cultural Heritages, it has everything that a vital historical metropolis can offer.

The Alhambra is the largest and best preserved Moorish palace and fortress in Europe.

Perfect escape in central Alpujarras location
Everything was exactly as described in the listing. The cottage, the view and especially the pool were a perfect peaceful place for us to totally relax and spend quality time in between our adventures throughout the region. The cottage felt very private because it had enough property of its own surrounding it and it is separated from the other house where other guests stay. The pool was a highlight- it was large, well maintained and although technically shared with a couple of others who may be in the other guest house, it had a designated area for us with chairs and umbrella, so it felt very much our own. Oliver and Maria were amazing hosts, responsive and very knowledgeable - willing to help with all our questions about everything local. The details in decor and care of the property are evidence of how invested they are in what they are offering their guests. Their welcome book had great recommendations for activities, food and more. I highly recommend this property for a family or other small group who either wants to stay put and enjoy all the peace it has to offer or use it as a home base for exploring the area. Thank you, Oliver and Maria!

A great stay
The well appointed rustic dwelling was ideal and well equipped. The view was fantastic. The host was very friendly and helpful Our only problem was our failure to notice that the pool was shared with the host and his other small letting on the site. This turned out not to be a problem at all.

Better than the pictures!
Excellent hosts, fantastic communication throughout our stay and a very nice welcome and introduction to the house. There is a folder with all the information needed for the house and the surrounding area. We loved going into Orgiva for bread, veggies/fruit, wine, etc (the daily market is awesome!). The bed is super comfortable, kitchen is well equipped (we often cooked at "home"), views are peaceful, lovely and relaxing pool, and we had loads of privacy. Fantastic location for exploring the region, though, some days it was really hard to leave "home." We already miss Antonio and Peppa! (the host's 2 dogs) Hoping to come back for an even longer stay.

Great base for exploring La Alpujarra
Cortijo El Potro is a nice, well appointed house with access to a lovely saltwater pool. Oliver and Maria are friendly, helpful, and gracious hosts. Orgiva is a great basecamp for cycling, hiking and exploring La Alpujarra. Orgiva is a diverse town with Spanish locals, expats, and a noticeable number of counterculturists. Dining options are a bit limited for long stays, but the kitchen works well for making meals and there are plenty of options for buying groceries. The area has its share of barking dogs, and during our visit, a relatively loud four-day festival; though…that’s Spain. The walk to town is short, but fairly step, especially with an armful of groceries. There are two friendly dogs and cats on the property, which for most people is a plus; however, if one has a cat allergy, this may be an issue as some guests may let the cats come inside.

A special place
We had a really enjoyable winter month in Orgiva (mid-Jan - mid-Feb). It is a good time of year for almond blossom. This was our second winter visit and it didn't disappoint. The views from the Cortijo are amazing - such a pleasure to sit out in the sunshine with a freshly-picked and squeezed orange juice listening to the birds and looking out on the mountains. Most days we were even able to have breakfast outside - a stark contrast to English winter weather. We only had rain on 5 of the 29 days (last visit we had no rain!). The Cortijo was comfortable and, with the aircon heater, log burner or a portable heater available, warm enough in the evenings. The Cortijo is quiet at night and we always slept well. There was plenty of hot water and we had no problems cooking or doing washing. What a luxury to hang washing out on the line late afternoon to dry! It was good to have Oliver and Maria around for advice or any help. Last visit we went to Granada - a doable day trip - except that we pre-booked the Alhambra and stayed two nights. This time, at Oliver's recommendation, we went to Cordoba. It would be a good place to visit at any time of year but there was plenty to see and not too busy in winter. We love walking and did some great walks , including one with Fritz (Oliver's father) above the clouds (!) above Capiliera. There is plenty of walking available and it is easy to download and follow routes. We ate well, with restaurants offering menu del dias for 10-15€ for 3 courses including drink. The highlight, though, has to be just being there - with the sunshine, orange trees, and yellow oxalis flowers set against the green grass and the mountains beyond.

Lovely, peaceful location
Lovely cottage with everything you need for your stay. So peaceful and just a 15 minute walk into the town. Beds were comfortable and everything was clean and tidy. Quite difficult to find so we ended up calling Oliver who drove into town and we then followed him. The town has various one way systems so easy to get lost! We would recommend eating at Limonera by the BP garage in town. Best meal we had!

Perfect villa in an idyllic setting
We stayed at Cortijo el Potro in the last week of the school summer holidays with our 9 year old twin daughters - and wow, what a fabulous holiday ! Booking was really straight forward and Oliver & Maria were really helpful in all communication ahead of our stay - they even arranged a car hire for us which was much better value than other companies. On arrival Maria was there to show us around the property & we met the friendly dogs - Antonio & Pepa who became daily visitors :) The welcome basket of food & bottle of wine is excellent and, like everything about the property and the holiday, well thought through. The house is beautifully done, very comfortable & cosy, GOOD air conditioning in the main bedroom & downstairs and is well equipped in all areas, especially the kitchen. The beds are super comfortable.. (better than my bed at home!) & we all slept very well. Thoughtful touches throughout, good selection of books in many languages, family games, hairdryer, iron and a comprehensive and good property & local area guide compiled by Oliver & Maria. The views & surrounding scenery are breathtaking & mesmerising, particularly at dawn and dusk. The villa was perfectly located to visit the area so in our 8 days there we managed to see a fair bit. Highly recommend a visit to Granada , not just for the spectacular Alhambra but also for the entire beautiful city. We spent many hours just walking around soaking it all up- highlights were the Albaicín and Sacromonte areas and a highly recommended ice cream from Los Italianos! Other trips to Bubión, Pampaneira & Capileira are a must, but also some of the coastal towns we really enjoyed - Almuñécar was a pleasant surprise after a really fun day at the Aqua Park. We also enjoyed an amazing tapas lunch at Arca de Noé in Lanjarón. We had intended doing some walks/ hiking in the area but it was so hot we just spent the rest of the time relaxing by the lovely pool at the property. We’ll just have to go back again to explore more on foot! Overall a wonderful stay - thank you!

Perfect holiday accommodation
We had an amazing holiday in this lovely property just outside of Oriva. The attractive accommodation was very clean, comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed. We spent many hours by the pool enjoying the mountain views and the pool itself delightful. It’s just a 15 minute walk into the small town of Órgiva where there are shops bars and restaurants to enjoy. Oliver is very communicative and there is a good information pack to give ideas on where to visit. Beaches are only 40 mins away and the surrounding countryside is breathtaking. Malanga just 1.5 hours away and Granada 40mins. We will be back as it’s been one of the best holidays we’ve had and there’s so much more to explore.

so relaxing!
The place is very rustic, charming, incredible views and so quiet. It's very clean, the bed was comfortable. Having a fire place made it cozy in the evenings. Oliver was very easy to communicate with, Maria is a charming hostess. Fritz, Oliver's dad, met us in town, due to road construction we could not find our way. Last but not least, Pepa and Antonio, the 2 Andalucian Bodega rat dogs similar to Jack Russel terriers, came to visit several times a day, I guess having dog treats had something to do with it. This place is very easy to recommend.

Great secluded and cosy gem with amazing views - highest recommendation
We extended our initial stay with an extra week due to this amazing place. Wonderful area, situated in a small valley, overlooking the Alpujarra mountains and Orgiva, with orange and olive trees scattered around the garden and surroundings. We had our daily fresh infusion of orange juice, which was exactly what we needed for our hiking day trips. Plenty of circular hikes possible within a 1 hour driving distance. We wouldn't recommend without a (rental) car. Granada is 1 hour away. Supermarket is down in Orgiva, less than 5 minutes by car. We had our 16 months old daughter with us and she enjoyed the garden and the house as well. A cot was provided for us and the heating was on when we arrived. Winter was a bit too cold for swimming in the pool, but it looks just perfect for the other seasons. Oliver and Maria are perfect hosts and live in a house at the other side of the garden. Plenty of privacy, and they were there for us if we needed them. Highest recommendation!

Perfect Place for a Relaxing Holiday
We spent a wonderful week staying at Oliver's cortijo. In the lead up to the holiday, Oliver was communicative and helpful, and we arrived to a spotless, spacious and well-equipped and laid-out cottage. We went with our two daughters, and the cottage and property was perfect - much of the days were spent at the pool, and there was a swing which our eldest loved. We bbq'ed just about every night. The house is well located - being out of Orgivia means it feels exceptionally quiet and peaceful, but the town is literally a five minute drive away, so getting groceries etc is no sweat. Orgivia is an okay town - we much preferred exploring the villages further afield. During our time, we spent a wonderful day in Granada (an easy drive of just over an hour) and also did some hikes. Overall, it was a perfect holiday, and we would absolutely recommend staying here.

Relaxing Week in Alpujarra!
For those who enjoy outdoor life and/or a relaxing get away from city, El Potro was a very nice escape in the hills above Orgiva; an eclectic village in the Alpujarra region. Oliver and his family (including his father, Fritz) were very welcoming and available for advice whenever we needed it. Comfortable beds with duvets, fully equipped kitchen, welcome basket ( for cost)and welcoming lighted fireplace was appreciated. We picked our own oranges on the trees surrounding the patio for fresh squeezed orange juice every morning. We enjoyed the views from the villa, the sound of the birds in the morning and evening and the hiking in close proximity. Orgiva itself is a quaint village with very eclectic residents. We frequented Baracha cafe on several occasions where you will get an appreciation of the ecletic nature of the village....also wonderful sweets and lunches. The waiters were extremely friendly and helpful. In fact, on Sunday during our visit when all the food stores were closed we had our minds set of home made spaghetti sauce and needed hamburger. The owner said no problem and sold us some hamburger so we could make our own meal at El Potro....above and beyond service. Our only suggestion is to provide pot holders for use around open flamed stove top and electric oven. We highly recommend this accommodation and hope to return again. Thanks Oliver!! (and Fritz)

Perfect winter holiday
We came here mid-January for 4 weeks to escape the British winter and do some walking. We had a super time - especially as it didn't rain in Orgiva at all! In fact, the weather was bright and mainly sunny. Everything exceeded our expectations, the weather, the scenery, the overall comfort of the cottage and the friendliness of the owner, Oliver, and family. We found the cortijo comfortable, we slept well and the views were amazing (every day, even after a month). The photos don't do the scenery justice. The light and airy downstairs windows make the cortijo feel spacious and there is plenty of outside space (grass area, downstairs shady patio and upstairs sunny terrace and the pool area). It was a delight to pick oranges to drink juice on the terrace looking out at the mountains. The kitchen is equipped with a microwave, electric oven, gas hob and dishwasher and the lounge TV has satellite channels with sport and films. The owner's discrete yet effective support was most welcome. His speed of response was always impressive. In particular he recommended a (mid-Feb) really good drive route for the Contraviesa almond blossom (beautiful). With help from the family we joined a local walking group and were recommended several walks. Overall having the owner discreetly nearby helped to make the holiday more enjoyable. Tips: Buses are cheap - a return trip to Granada, 90 minutes each way, was only 10€ (We pre-booked the Alhambra) Meteoblue is a good place to get weather info. We found other forecasts misleadingly showing the (much colder) weather forecast for Granada when you look for Orgiva weather. Plenty of choice of restaurants in town, 3 course (incl. drink) "menu del dia" lunch varied from 10-15€ Would we go back there for another winter holiday? Yes, definitely.

Lovely Setting
The villa is situated in a very secluded beautiful setting. It is close to the town of Orgiva. The villa is very well equipped. We had an issue with larvae in the wood work when we were staying which was surprisingly noisy. This did affect our stay as we were lying awake listening to them gnawing at the wood. The owner is going to deal with them. The villa is quite handy for day trips to Granada.

What a great place!
Ollie, the owner of this property is a delight. Laid back would be a good description of him but nothing is too much trouble. It helps if you are a little laid back too, and being a dog-lover is a must as Ollie's two lovely little terrier crosses are regular visitors. Pepper and Gomez (who lost a hind leg in a fight with other dogs 3 years ago but whose spirit is indomitable). The cottage and garden and picking oranges for breakfast juice every morning are special treats. Good weather helps of course and we shall return. Ollie has lived here for many years and is a reliable and wise source of local information. Cool nights are compensated by a super open fire and dry logs. Sublime! Difficult to find much to criticise but beds are not particularly comfortable and next time we shall bring our own pillows! Thank you Ollie.

Perfect holiday
What a fabulous holiday in Orgiva - the house was a brilliant find. Very clean, spacious, lovely kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms, with a brilliant outside terrace for eating and a stunning pool. Oliver who owns the property is a brilliant host and is on hand to offer help and advice when needed. Thank you for a lovely stay in Orgiva! Mark

A blissful week in the lovely Alpujarras
Six of us spent an all too short week in El Potro - grandparents, parents, and year old twins - and it was absolutely perfect. The safe, child-friendly environment was ideal for the little boys, who found much to amuse and interest them (especially the owner's cats and dogs!). The lovely fenced pool was enjoyed every day by us all. The house was well equipped with highchairs, cots, stair gate, toys and books for all ages. We loved the shady terrace and had all of our meals there; despite it being August the temperature was comfortable inside and out and we rarely had to use the air conditioning. The kitchen was well equipped and the comprehensive welcome pack of food was just what we needed, arriving tired and hungry the first evening. Oliver was enormously helpful - he sorted out a problem with the hot water very quickly and efficiently, and told us how to avoid queues at the Alhambra by getting our prebooked tickets printed in Orgiva. The extensive information he had prepared about all there was to see and do in the area made us realise that we would need to return, but we enjoyed exploring the nearby villages and soon felt very at home in Orgiva itself. And while it wasn't yet the season for oranges, we feasted on figs, grapes and blackberries growing around the house. It truly is an idyllic spot.
