Our group thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Black Log Valley Lodge in June 2019.
Although, this property is rural. The owner provided us with a comprehensive e-mail listing everything we would need to get the most out of the Lodge.
The directions from the turnpike were spot on and the lodge was easy to identify from the road. Upon arrival, we were able to secure entry to the property. Once inside, everything was labeled appropriately to get the lodge up and running. Checkout was also streamlined and logical based on the description.
The electricity had no issues, the water was clean and the hot water also worked. We were in the deep woods, so there were a few bugs around the doorways and outside of the windows; however, to our delight the inside of the lodge was essentially bug free.
Regarding the kitchen, it met our needs perfectly. Two large refrigerators, an oven, microwave, and range (Which all worked great). In addition, enough silverware, plates, cups, etc to give us what we needed during our stay. Owner also had a grill with propane, which made dinner easy to prepare. There is no dish washing machine. Plan accordingly
There were a total of six bedrooms (four upstairs; two in the basement). You have to bring your own linens which is fine. There is no Laundry at the facility, plan accordingly
There were three bathrooms, one on each floor. Each had a shower and were clean.
Outside, there was ample seating along with additional chairs in the garage. Garage also contained some yard games (Horseshoe, Cornhole, etc.) to pass the time. Fire pit was also well constructed and maintained. There was some wood there; however, this is for the owner during their time. As a result, bring your own wood.
Regarding the location, we went into Mt Union for supplies which was roughly 20 minutes away. That town had food, beverages, fuel, and supplies to meet your needs. Lake Raystown and Altoona are also within an hour from the lodge.
Finally, if you're looking for the lap of luxury (Cell Service, Internet, Cable, Air Conditioning, etc.) this place is definitely not for you. There is no cell service, a single CRT TV with a DVD player, and no Internet.
However, it was great for our purposes as we wanted to connect with our group and unplug for the weekend. The lodge is also secluded so you don't hear/see the neighbors which is also a plus. Very Relaxing and highly recommended.
