Nice place for a quiet family get away.
Nice place for a quiet family get away. Very remote, we saw a bunch of turkeys and other wild life, and could hear coyotes howling in the distance. The firepit/play set area was great for both adults and kids. Plenty of space for a large family.

Enjoyable Family Getaway!
Beautiful wooded property. Enjoyable putdoor activities on site. Perfect place for infants to great grandparents to enjoy each other. Spacious. Comfortable. Relaxing. Host was very helpful with any questions I had.

Family friendly-average accomodations. Shower knob off in the basement shower, beds need new mattresses, breakers would flip in the kitchen when running more than one appliance.

Our stay
We had a few issues right from the start which I left a list of for the owner. Property was not as close to Lake Raystown as we would have liked.

Wonderful getaway from everything!
This was a great place to get away and enjoy a few days of family bonding. Even the teens talked and played games with everyone. The house was clean and thoughtfully planned for large groups with plenty of beds and plenty of seating inside and out! There were fans in every room making it very comfortable for sleeping. We would definitely stay here again!

Camp
Camp was wonderful! This is a great house with a kind owner. There is so much space to accommodate a large group but also cozy enough for a smaller group. This was our second stay here and we have plans to return next year. Check in is easy. The owner provides you with area info and has the vet phone number posted in case you bring a fur baby that needs help. Nearby mountains are beautiful. Wildlife sightings are common. People in town are friendly and helpful. We enjoyed campfires, walks, horseshoes and more. Nearby Raystown lake is beautiful.

Budget friendly stay
If you’re looking for a low budget/good enough stay. Obviously nothing fancy as you can see from the pictures but had everything we needed for the stay. The large property with firepit, yard games, balcony with grill, and nearby lake and river are great. The biggest negative for me was the cleanliness - it’s an old place with some broken things. This is definitely a bare minimum place- there is no washer and dryer, no dishwasher, you have to bring all your own bedding and towels (which can be inconvenient for a large party). But all this information is provided in the listing so it’s communicated up front as long as you pay attention to the details. We were out and about most of th

Family Vacation
There were 13 in our group. The cabin is spacious and the kitchen features a large gathering table. We appreciated the well stocked kitchen and extra table to put on covered deck. All the kids ate on the deck. We enjoyed the woods and peaceful setting The kids loved playing on the property and in the nearby creek. The guys went fishing on the river and we had camp fires in the evenings. There is an extra charge if you use their firewood. We brought our own. This is a great place if you just want to relax and enjoy family time and nature. Suggestions would be more thorough cleaning. Mattresses need replaced and mattress protectors washed.

Comfortable, quiet, but no cell service.
Zero cell service. You have to drive about 4 minutes to the top of the mountain to get cell service. Since there is also no WiFi, that means you are completely out of touch with the outside world. Be sure to bring cards, other games, some puzzles or crafts to stay entertained while in the house. There is a DVD and VCR, but the single TV in the house is not HD. It's an older tube TV. Decent sized, but don't plan on plugging in your Roku or FireStick (wouldn't work anyway without WiFi). I always load a few movies on my laptop, for the kids or for my wife and I to sit and watch at night, and then plug the laptop into one of the TV's at the house using an HDMI cable. That won't work with this TV. Just note that. Very nice house, pretty big, and good for 2 families with kids, maybe 3 families if they share beds and you don't have a ton of kids, or good for multiple couples. Tucked in the woods a little bit, so it's very secluded from any neighbors. Well kept and clean. Very cool deck on the second story out back overlooking the swing set and fire pit area. So parents can relax and still see the kids while they play outside. There's a queen bed listed, but we didn't see a queen bed anywhere in the house. My wife and I sleep in a queen at home and whenever we rent a house (this was our 3rd house rental through VRBO). So we settled for one of the Full beds. If you want a secluded setting, it is definitely that. Just note the zero cell service (for any carrier) and no WiFi.

Everything as Advertised - Great Lodge Weekend Getaway!
Our group thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Black Log Valley Lodge in June 2019. Although, this property is rural. The owner provided us with a comprehensive e-mail listing everything we would need to get the most out of the Lodge. The directions from the turnpike were spot on and the lodge was easy to identify from the road. Upon arrival, we were able to secure entry to the property. Once inside, everything was labeled appropriately to get the lodge up and running. Checkout was also streamlined and logical based on the description. The electricity had no issues, the water was clean and the hot water also worked. We were in the deep woods, so there were a few bugs around the doorways and outside of the windows; however, to our delight the inside of the lodge was essentially bug free. Regarding the kitchen, it met our needs perfectly. Two large refrigerators, an oven, microwave, and range (Which all worked great). In addition, enough silverware, plates, cups, etc to give us what we needed during our stay. Owner also had a grill with propane, which made dinner easy to prepare. There is no dish washing machine. Plan accordingly There were a total of six bedrooms (four upstairs; two in the basement). You have to bring your own linens which is fine. There is no Laundry at the facility, plan accordingly There were three bathrooms, one on each floor. Each had a shower and were clean. Outside, there was ample seating along with additional chairs in the garage. Garage also contained some yard games (Horseshoe, Cornhole, etc.) to pass the time. Fire pit was also well constructed and maintained. There was some wood there; however, this is for the owner during their time. As a result, bring your own wood. Regarding the location, we went into Mt Union for supplies which was roughly 20 minutes away. That town had food, beverages, fuel, and supplies to meet your needs. Lake Raystown and Altoona are also within an hour from the lodge. Finally, if you're looking for the lap of luxury (Cell Service, Internet, Cable, Air Conditioning, etc.) this place is definitely not for you. There is no cell service, a single CRT TV with a DVD player, and no Internet. However, it was great for our purposes as we wanted to connect with our group and unplug for the weekend. The lodge is also secluded so you don't hear/see the neighbors which is also a plus. Very Relaxing and highly recommended.

Secluded family cabin
Perfect cabin to accommodate multiple families. Nice open layout on first floor with kitchen, large table and livingroom allowed conversation during meal preps. Beautiful fire pit, large bundles of wood for only $5. Surrounded by woods. Only negative was there was not much close by and the mountain roads make travel take a very long time. The host was very responsive. I would recommend this cabin.

Outstanding location for a guy's weekend
I just got back from an extended weekend at this camp with 14 other guys in their 30s and 40s. It was EXACTLY what we hoped for. Secluded out in the woods, plenty of space outside to do stuff, plenty of space inside to hang out, enough sleeping arrangements for all of us. Couldn't recommended high enough!
