We really loved our week in the Poet's Lodge and are considering staying again in the future. It felt like staying in an old Maine camp. The post and beam construction was on full display. The place is clearly old, but well-maintained and everything was in working order. The old GE electric stove was retro!
If you want and Rangeley lake camp experience, to be ensconced in nature, quiet neighbors, amazing sunsets, walk to Bald Mountain Camp for dinner and drinks, across the street from Bald Mountain Trailhead, this is for you. We sat on the screened-in porch and watched the kids swim until the sun went down. We basically lived outside- meals on the porch, coffee by the campfire.
If you want a chef's kitchen, this rental is not for you. If you need top of the line, brand new everything, look elsewhere. But we love to the old-time feel and the setting.
Loved: sandy beach, right on the water, screened in porch, picnic tables, spacious bedrooms, satellite TV, 1.5 baths, quiet neighbors, views, sunsets, campfire pit, lots of windows to catch the lake breeze, cleanliness.
Would have preferred: better equipped kitchen, knives were all pretty dull, non-stick frying pans were destroyed (finish totally gone), limited large pot for pasta. Definitely need more pots and pans.
OK with galley kitchen, mothball smell in the bathrooms (we just opened the windows), cell reception. (I was prepared for no cell reception, but both AT&T and Verizon devices were able to get 2 bars of LTE most of the time which allowed checking email, social media and making calls.
