Spacious townhouse with roof terrace and amazing views over old town. Sleeps 6.

SUMMARY
Our newly renovated, spacious and traditional town house has amazing views over the market town of Oliva, which has a mix of old streets, newer centre and almost 10km of blue flag beaches.

The house nestles in a cul de sac in the old town area and dates back a century. It has a range of features, ranging from old (including marble tiles) to new (high-speed fibre Wi-Fi.)

The front door opens into a cosy, cool front room which has plenty of space for the dining table, two settees, bed settee, ceiling fans, and a wood burner for the winter. Also on the ground floor, there is a well-equipped kitchen, bathroom, and utility area.

The first floor offers two large bedrooms, sleeping up to six people, and separate WC and shower rooms.

Everyone loves the roof terrace, which stretches over 40m2 and has stunning views of the old town, mountains and a tantalising glimpse of the Mediterranean. There are also two smaller terraces at the back of the house. (See below for more information about the rooms and terraces.)

Within 5 minutes’ walk, through the winding cobbles of the old town, you’ll find several bars, a shop and our favourite restaurant, Pelut. Nearby, there are two beautiful churches, one dominating the popular San Roque square, and the castle (all of which can be seen from the roof terrace) and two museums.

Another 5 minutes' walk takes you into the centre of Oliva, a working town that remains mainly Spanish and has a variety of bars, restaurants and shops, including supermarkets and the indoor market (with tourist information centre next door.)

The boulevard through the middle of the main street is pleasantly shaded by an avenue of trees; it has a playground and plenty of seating to enjoy drinks or ice creams from its bars and kiosks, plus, on Fridays, a large outdoor market.

The sea is a pleasant 30 minutes’ walk from the centre, down a shaded boulevard, or you can hop onto a bus or catch a taxi from the rank opposite the indoor market. Here there are six wonderful beaches, stretching almost 10km, which are less crowded than the more touristy resorts further up and down the coast. There are several places to eat and drink by the sea (some with seasonal opening), and a beach bar in the summer.

OUR STREET
Calle St Marcos dates back a century, has around a dozen houses and overlooks the winding streets of the old town. It’s a pleasant cul de sac, which means there is little traffic noise but no room for parking, though there are plenty of spaces nearby.

The other houses in Calle St Marcos and the surrounding streets are occupied mainly by Spanish families, with some expat residents and holiday homes

TRADITIONAL HOUSE WITH A SPACIOUS 90m2 OF INSIDE SPACE
The house is in a terrace of old town houses, all with their own individual looks.

The front door opens into a delightful main room, which is almost 30m2 and has dining and lounge areas.

The dining section has a table, which comfortably seats six people, and useful bed settee, sleeping two.

There are another two settees in the lounge, a three-seater and two-seater, plus TV, arched hatch to the kitchen, and stairs to the first floor. As with many traditional Spanish homes, this room is relatively cool in the summer, and also benefits from two ceiling fans. For the Spanish winter (which lasts only a few weeks!), there is a cosy wood burning stove. (Starter pack of logs is provided).

A corridor of 9m2 leads from this main room to the kitchen, bathroom, utility area, and door to the back terrace.

The kitchen is 6.5m2 and was recently refurbished, with new electric cooker and hob. It’s equipped with a microwave, fridge with freezer compartment, kettle, toaster and extractor fan. Food, drink and conversation flows into the main room via an arch above one of the preparation areas.

In the bathroom, which is almost 8m2, there is a bath with overhead shower, sink with vanity unit, bidet and WC. (The first floor has separate WC and shower rooms.)
The 3m2 utility area offers a washing machine, large utility sink and handy storage.

From the main room, an open staircase leads to the first floor. This staircase has a handrail but is unsuitable for people with mobility issues, and younger children should be supervised (our son used the stairs from the age of one and was perfectly safe.)

On the first floor, Bedroom 1 is a delightful, comfortable and spacious 13m2, at the front of the house. Its window shutters allow you to gaze over the old town, shut out the sun, or enjoy a gentle breeze. There is a double bed, plenty of wardrobe space and a ceiling fan.

Bedroom 2, also on the first floor, is even bigger; an impressive 15m2. It looks out over the middle terrace, towards the mountains, and has one double bed, two singles, a wardrobe and a ceiling fan.

Also on the first floor are separate WC and shower rooms, each around 1.5m2, and a corridor of 9m2 with bookcase and stairs to the roof terrace.

AMAZING VIEWS FROM THE THREE TERRACES, STRETCHING OVER 80m2
Our favourite outside space is the roof terrace, which is a real suntrap that stretches across 40m2. This has spectacular views over the old town: Oliva castle, the beautiful churches of San Roque (on the site of an old mosque) and Santa Maria, a tantalising glimpse of the Mediterranean sea shimmering in the distance, and, from the back and side, views to the mountains and trees.

We often spend the whole day up here, enjoying the views, snoozing under the pergola, cooking on the barbecue, and watching the sun set behind the castle.

The middle terrace, on the first floor, outside Bedroom 2, is 23m2 and used mainly for drying clothes.

On the ground floor there is another 18m2 of pleasant and shaded outside space and a store for the garden furniture.

MORE INFORMATION ABOUT OLIVA
Oliva is an unspoilt market town which is in the 'Oranges and Lemons' region of Valencia, midway between Alicante (100km) and Valencia (75km). It's on the southern tip of the Costa del Azahar, 5 miles away from the beginning of the Costa Blanca.

We love that Oliva is traditionally Spanish and not too touristy, though with a range of restaurants, bars and shops to suit all tastes, and of course the wonderful beaches. Oliva is split into three areas, all with their own unique character: the old town (where you’ll find the house) oozes atmosphere and history, the town centre is packed with shops and restaurants, many along the tree-lined boulevard, and then there is almost 10km of blue-flag beaches and more places to eat and drink.

Oliva has a strong community feel and people in the town come together to celebrate several traditional festivals, including the Falles and Moore and Christians, in spectacular style!

Spacious apartment, ideal for 3-4 people. Had everything we need, although bit dirty in all places. Dishes, pots & pans were covered with mold, water pressure in the shower was low.

Not for me
Real hill country where parking is in short supply and you absolutely need a car to get around from this location. Certainly not a location for seniors. Mold and mildew issues. Due to my health concerns we abandoned our stay and no refund or even an attempt to re-rent the property would be made by the property owner.

Winter visit
I have given this property four start as it was valve for money at approx £23 per night. It was basic, no thrills but it was as advertised. Everything is well used but working and if you wanted to be in town you were in the middle with the best restaurants and bars super close but yet the house was in a lovely quite area.

La casa por dentro no es moderna pero es muy cómoda y amplia . Para ir a la playa mejor con coche , está a unos 10 minutos en coche . Las calles son estrechas y no se puede aparcar en ella pero a unos 100 metros no hay problema . Very spacious and conveniently located townhouse.
The townhouse had all necessary equipment and was airy and spacious. David provides excellent instructions on using the accommodation. It is well located for easy access to all facilities. Even though we used the apartment in winter there was more than sufficient heaters to stay warm.

House full of character in old town Oliva
We stayed for 2 months, April and May. The house was as advertised - spacious, clean and well equipped. It is in a residential cul de sac off a quiet street - you need to park in a street nearby. The terraces are lovely, with spectacular views of land and sea from the top one. There is always sun and shade whatever time of day. The house is traditionally built but the utilities are modern. No air conditioning but fans in all rooms. Gail, the caretaker, is very helpful and a mine of local information as she used to live nearby. There are three bars within minutes - Pelut is Spanish owned and has a restaurant as well which is lovely. Cafe Molino is a hub for expats -British and other nationalities but Spanish people use it too. The owners are delightful and are developing the light food and tapas menus, as well as doing a splendid Sunday lunch. Nikki’s is a characterful bar with a warm welcome and again good advice to be had. The town centre is 15 mins walk and has lots of shopping and cafes and restaurants. You need a car for the beach really, although a bus does run from the paseo. There’s always something going on - processions, exhibitions, fireworks at every opportunity. The local Tourist office has a monthly events sheet that gives you all the details. We loved our stay in Oliva and the house was very comfortable. The landlord is very efficient at keeping in contact and the few minor problems we had - lightbulbs, that kind of thing - were sorted out quickly. If you want a holiday in a real Spanish environment this will provide it, just be aware that the house is on a steepish hill and may not be suitable if you have mobility problems. Otherwise, get fit and enjoy the views!

House has everything you need and in central location for shops and restaurants
Met at the end of toll road by Gail who we luckily followed to the property , narrow windy streets in the old town of Oliva. House large and had everything we needed for our stay, including ample kitchen equipment. Bed was comfortable and had towels and extra blankets. We stayed in January so evenings got cold but had gas heater in lounge and an electric one in bedroom if we needed it. House comfortable, had English sky tv and WiFi which all worked well. Gail keep in touch if we needed anything. Lovely restaurant just around the corner, friendly and good food and we ate there most evenings. The main town literally straight down a few roads with shops, bars, restaurants and atms. The roof terrace was very large and got the sun all day, was warm enough to sunbathe one afternoon! Negotiating the way out of town was bit scary first time as lots of narrow one way streets but just go for it, it was fine. Few little English bars down the road where friendly and informative. This property was perfect for our use.

Real Spain
As many other reviews state the house is extremely spacious and provides an authentic Spanish experience as it is based in the Oliva old town. Houses very close to each other, locals very friendly, always saying good day / afternoon / evening. On street parking close by - 5 minute walk. Superb restaurant and cafe within 5 minute walk as well - one very Spanish ( El Pelut ) and one very English ( Cafe Molino ). Lots of facilities in the town nearby. Gail met us and was brilliant. House is designed to be cool for the summer so if you visit in Winter take sufficient warm clothes and budget for supplies of wood for the excellent wood burner in the house. Dave the house owner responded very quickly if any aspects of the house needed repairing. Overall great value and a great experience

True Spanish holiday, stay amongst the locals
If you want to experience a true valacian house living amongst the locals, this is the place to do it. If you want penthouse luxury look elsewhere! The house is spacious and equipped for all your needs. The beds are comfy, well the double one is didn't sample others. There is English TV and wifi. There is also a log fire which we made use of our one rainey day. There are three different level roof terraces for all day sun, one with BBQ. Shops, bars and restaurants are within easy stroll with more further a field. The beach is a good 40 minute walk but it is a lovely walk and quicker by car. The local streets are like a maze with one way and no entry not so fun in a car but great to explore on foot! We did find our way out and back by car, no parking directly outside the house but street parking available relatively close. We were met by house manager at the toll booths, we then followed her to the house. Just follow instructions about contacting her the week before your visit. It was the Fallas festival while we were there, it's s festival of fire, children were setting firecrackers off during the week, we saw the statues that they build but left on the Saturday am before the main celebrations on the Saturday and Sunday night. As well as exploring the village on foot ( there are historic trails to follow) we visited Gandia, Denia and also took a trip into the mountains, beautiful scenery with hair raising drops. But with good weather you can just chill on the roof terrace.

Really spacious inside, we enjoyed sun rise and sun set on the roof terrace.
A great base to explore the beaches of Oliva, we were looking for a beach where you can take a dog and we found an almost empty stretch where it it is basically allowed , a 15 minute drive away. The house is great, authentic Spanish or Valencian barrio. Gail who met us was lovely.

Great Location
This typical Spanish house is located in Old Town Oliva. It is in close proximity to a very good and welcoming Spanish Bar/Restaurant and a neighbourhood English bar with other eateries just a short walk away. A 5 minute walk to the Paseo places you in the downtown area where an assortment of shops, grocery stores and restaurants/bars await your discovery. The home is two stories with a rooftop terrace that provides a place to enjoy the Spanish sun. It also offers panoramic views and a bar-B-que. The home is equipped with 'Sky' T.V. and Wi-Fi so that it is easy to stay up to date with world events (if that is necessary) and in touch with family and friends who only wish that they could also be in SPAIN. The local property manager was very informative and during our 3 month stay dropped by occasionally to see if we were in needed anything. We are counting the days until we can once again return to this townhouse in Oliva.
