"The place was beautiful, the pictures just don't even seem like the right place. The rooms were next to a stream and walking in you feel like you're going back in time, walking over covered bridges and rustic tatami-matted floors. The grounds were just as charming and the onsens were our favorite in Japan (and we like going to onsens all over Japan). "We stayed at Oohira hotel in October to use it as a base for hiking. It is perfectly located, near the top end of Zao Onsen, right next to the base of the mountain and the big Zao outdoor onsen. We found it with no issues, and the hotel will pick you up from the bus station if you call in advance.
