Our newly renovated guest apartment in Oberwesel offers an unforgettable stay right in the heart of UNESCO'S World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley. Enjoy the many hiking and bicycle paths it has to offer, through forests, meadows, wine yards and historical sites. Oberwesel was a free imperial city that fell under Christian lordship, until its French secularization. It was important in medieval times due to its wine growing, fishing, handcrafts and trade. You must see this historical marvel!
Fully modernized 120 sq. meter, first floor, two bedroom apartment (one comfortable bed with two new mattresses, 180cm x 200cm bed size and a 160cm x 200cm bed in the second bedroom, 2x person sofa bed in the lounge) with jacuzzi, glass shower and washing machine in the bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, big screen with Amazon Prime and Netflix (free of charge!) in the lounge (no regular TV program). A premium Mordaunt-Short / Pioneer sound system, a strong Internet WiFi connection (secured by Sophos XG Firewall) and two large terraces are included. The covered terraces offer groups a large but private area to socialise and celebrate together. For your group events a 4-burner Gas BBQ is on duty. All linen is provided, as well as, some toiletries and products needed to make tea and coffee.
The apartment is equipped with insulation windows and thick wall insulation as well as a strong but quiet AC device in the living room.
The apartment is situated right in the centre of Oberwesel's old town. The river Rhine, town hall, post office, bakery, off-license, beauty shop, main train station and river boat landing are only 5 minutes walk from the house. There are also two large grocery stores at easy reach (15 min. by foot/5 min. by car). Its location serves as a perfect starting point for hikers and cyclist, as it is situated just under one of the valley walls. The town itself offers a few culinary highlights such as the Historische Weinwirtschaft, Goldener Pfropfenzieher, Günderodehaus, Ferienhof Hardthöhe (watch out for their seasonal events) and, last but not least, fine dining delights at the Schönburg Castle Hotel. Schönburg Castle does not only offer delicious food, but also an incredible view of the Rhine river wining down the valley and a fun, rocky hike up. The town also hosts a wide variety of restaurants and cafés, such as Pizzeria Da Antonio (the name is sort of a give away), restaurant Alanya (Turkish restaurant for sitting in or taking away), Bistros Mitado or Salamander (offering a wide selection of snacks and more), Café Bonsch (traditional German tea-room-like for afternoon 'Kaffee und Kuchen' or breakfasts) and one of the gems of Oberwesel, Zum Lamm (casual restaurant, serving super traditional German food and their self produced wine, amongst other drinks, of course). Moving away from Oberwesel, there are also loads of wine makers and farms close-by. To explore all their fine tastes would take you a lifetime, so we are more than happy to provide you with a list of our recommendations, should you prefer taking a little shortcut. Neighbouring famous Rhine valley villages and towns with their many fabulous castles are also worth seeing. Well known towns such as Bacharach (6,8 km), Sankt Goar (8,6 km) and Bingen (23,2 km) and big cities, such as Koblenz (48,9 km), Mainz (52,2 km) and Wiesbaden (56,8 km) are easy to reach by train, car, bicycle or foot.
There are hourly and bi-hourly regional trains to Oberwesel from Frankfurt, Mainz and Koblenz. Wiesbaden can be easily accessed from Mainz.
