Weighbridge Cottage - a detached cottage with open fire and private garden

This single storey cottage is in the very centre of the village and 170 years ago the building was used as a small weighbridge for the gunpowder railway hoppers that passed by the building on their way down to the Pier.

Weighbridge is situated in its own enclosed garden at the south-western end of the Village facing south over a paddock down to the River Oude.

The front door leads into a long hallway (with coat hanging space) with all rooms opening off. In walk order you are led to the well-appointed double bedroom; large open-plan kitchen/dining area (with oven, hob, fridge with ice-box, microwave & dishwasher); small bathroom (with bath, over-bath shower, wc & basin); spacious sitting room with large patio windows enjoying fabulous views over the paddock and to the hills beyond (equipped with open fire, two single sofa beds for occasional guests, CTV, DVD);

Car parking is in the large gravelled area at the gable end of the building or outside the front door.

A lovely cottage

We stayed in Weighbridge 20 years ago and we were excited to return to our cozy cottage, so comfortable and warm. We want to return again and stay longer.

Wieighbridge Cottage - Melfort Village

We spent 3 nights in this lovely little cottage where we enjoyed the most relaxing short break. Also our two dogs loved the area for their walks. Would recommend this to anyone as we would certainly revisit this cottage again. Sandra Monteith

Weighbridge cottage

A wonderful place for a relaxing break. Staff are friendly and very helpful. A great place to take your four-legged member of the family! The restaurant is excellent too. We enjoyed it so much that when we checked out,we booked for next year!

Fantastic break

Excellent stay in a delightful cottage, despite bad weather some days which gave us the excuse of lighting a fire. Reception staff very welcoming and helpful, providing information not only about on-site facilities but also advising us of places to visit, etc. Cottage fully equipped, even a dishwasher, great WiFi connection. Loved the welcome pack for our dog, the treats and toy went down well with him. All in all a perfect retreat for some r & r.

First timers

We loved this cottage for its accessibility and the lovely views from the french windows. My husband has limited mobility so parking by the door and no stairs were essential advantages. The only drawback was the somewhat cramped bathroom space.

enjoyed my stay. Very dog friendly liked the dog welcome pack. Might be good to close in the Fence, especially to road with eg chicken wire to allow me to let the dog out without concern.

Lovely peaceful location

Cozy comfortable cottage in a beautiful peaceful location. The cottage was very well appointed and had everything we needed including logs, firefighters, and a goody bag for the dogs. Reception provided excellent information about walks, local places of interests and trips further afield. Our garden was next to the off lead dog walking field which was very useful, but I was disappointed about the lack of off lead dog walking available in the immediate vicinity of Melfort Village (too many sheep!). However we discovered some fantastic Forestry Commission walks which were all in excess of 30 minutes drive away. The two highlights for me were the day trip to Lunga island to see the Atlantic puffins and the live music evening at nearby Melfort Loch hotel.

Spring at Melfort

We had a lovely short break in April , staying in Weighbridge Cottage . This is a charming wee cottage which was lovely and cosy once we got the log fire burning . As we have a wee dog it's proximity to the paddock was handy and having its own garden an advantage. As we are an elderly couple we would have preferred a walk in shower rather than a shower over the bath but that was the only negative point for us .

Brian’s holiday

This was our first time at Melfort and it certainly won’t be our last. We had a lovely time with Brian our dog. Some good walks locally, a great dog field we even had our own little garden. Music night in the shower of herring restaurant was great. Staff in reception were all great and very willing to help and advise. Thank you or a lovely week .

MEMORABLE 50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

We arrived later than expected and was greeted by a lovely smiling face of Alison and was given our keys to Weighbridge Cottage, this was warm, cosy and all the home comforts. We erected our portable Christmas Tree and put up the Christmas cards and headed to Shower of Herring for dinner, we also ate there 19th and 22nd, the meals were excellent. Our bed for the week was cosy and warm as well and an excellent nights sleep was enjoyed. The bathroom was also warm with underfloor heating. The kitchen was extremely well equipped and enough for 8 people let alone 4, but this was romantic time for us so we were on our own. The lounge had 2 lovely settees plus a lounger chair and foot stool, TV also had DVD player which we used for our Christmas CD's. We have stayed in this area before whilst we were on a coach trip back in 2015 but you never appreciate it until you can do it independently. a week is just not long enough, so we will be making plan to return to area very soon.

Great cosy winter break!

Booked for 4 nights in November in this surprisingly spacious 1 bedroom cottage. It was cold but we were kept warm with new electric individually controlled heaters and an open fire which we love as we don't have one at home. Used the bar 3 nights but ate in at night but good to have the option of a meal out most nights. A great winter break!

A lovely place to stay

Couldn't ask for a more comfortable, peaceful place to stay. Good standard of bedding, crockery etc. Pool and leisure areas great for unwinding. Would definitely return.

Overflow accommodation

We also own the old haybarn for that week and had the whole family with us, so it was good to have the extra accommodation for the week. We rented the weighbridge cottage from the monday to the saturday, but we had most of our meals and social time in the old haybarn. Weighbridge is an ideal cottage for a couple. Enjoyable week, despite the weather

As an owner at Melfort already this week confirmed how good Melfort Village is. A must visit for the discerning traveller. Very high quality accommodation and excellent customer service.

So relaxing and truely dog friendly

I stayed at Weighbridge for 5 days with my husband and border collie. The village is very quiet with lovely well kept gardens, and the cottage was a home from home. This place is truely dog friendly, if like us - you have stayed at "dog friendly " places and the dog has had to stay in the car while you have dinner.....not here. The food in the Shower of Herring was really good and your dog can join you inside and is even given little doggie treats. This is a great base for visiting the sorrounding areas on the West Coast. The staff here are so helpful, friendly and welcoming. It would have been better if the restaurant was open every night, it closes a few days midweek.

Return visit to Melfort Village

Our stay at Weighbridge Cottage exceeded expectations. Melfort Village is the perfect location from which to explore the delights of Argyll and beyond. We were struck by the peacefulness and tranquillity. So much so that we have made a reservation to return next year.

Our stay at Melfort Village

We first stayed at Pier Cottage in 1974, we returned after 44 years .We had a lovely weeks stay. We had our dog with us and she was made most welcome. We would return.

Overall, I enjoyed my week in Weighbridge Cottage.

This was the first time staying in this cottage, so there were one or two difficulties at the start. Some windows would not open and the keys were missing. The patio door would unlock but did not open without moving a lever which I had not noticed !. Reception helped but window keys were never found. Weather at the time was very cold and frosty so the heaters had been set to 18c. I was cosy, but at a considerable cost which could not be shared as I was the only occupant.I am sure the resort would benefit from having more cleaners and perhaps doing a more thorough clean in each cottage on a rotational basis.?. Just a suggestion ! Am looking forward to returning.

Family get together

It’s not often that our grown up, far flung daughters and Dad get together these days. So where better to rendezvous than the familiar surroundings of Melfort Village. Invigorating walks on the hill & beaches, wonderful food and cozy movie evenings with a dram in front of the log fire, perfect!

Weighbridge cottage

This cottage was extremely comfortable especially considering the poor weather. It was well stocked, the kitchen had every thing we needed to enjoy our holiday. The only thing missing was a washing machine. However there was a laundry to use if we required it We would certainly stay again. Next time we hope the weather will be better

Great stay

We are a little biased because we have owned here for 32 years and had to have a change of plans so we rented a different week. We love this place! It is quiet, in a beautiful location, and the staff is more than helpful. Music night is particularly fun!

Weighbridge July 2017

We had a great week at Melfort with our young family and the staff were excellent ( the highlight of the village) however we feel that the accommodation was priced at a premium that it didn't quite live up to.

Weighbridge cottage

The cottage is spacious, well equipped and comfortable....a home from home. Great little enclosed garden with table and chairs and a bird feeder. Very friendly helpful staff. Only downside was the shower could benefit from an upgrade to power shower . Would definitely return.
