An Cala - sleeps 6 guests in 3 bedrooms

An incredibly special property, An Cala is located in Connel, a remarkable ribbon of the West Coast of Scotland.

Situated only yards from the Sea taking in the picturesque views and sunsets of Loch Etive this cottage oozes a home from home feel.
The majestic Connel Bridge with its magnificent “Falls of Lora” rapids – where the tidal sea meets with fresh Loch water creating a kayaker's playground, can all be viewed from your very own lounge window, just sit back and watch the world go by.
Argyll is renowned for it's abundance of wildlife on land and Sea with porpoises, golden eagles, otters and even bottlenose dolphins recently spotted under the Connel Bridge.
This contemporary cosy cottage completely refurnished in Autumn 2019 to comfortably sleep six guests across two double bedrooms and one twin; a double and bathroom on the ground floor with another double, family bathroom and twin on the first floor.
The living area features a large wood-burning stove with comfortable seating to compliment this sociable spot with its large open windows to look out at the vast views – making it ideal for guests to gather and share their stories of the day's activities. The open plan dining area is perfect for enjoying a meal while still taking in the sunset views.
The fully equipped kitchen to the back of the cottage boasts an additional conservatory dining area – perfect to sit and chat surrounded by beautiful views as your food cooks. The private garden, which you can access from the kitchen is ideal for BBQs. Alternatively, there is an excellent gastro pub and restaurant within walking distance.
Al Cala is situated in Connel, 4 miles from Oban “Gateway to the Isles” with great public transport links to Oban, Fortwilliam and Glasgow from the bus stop nearby; or for those who feel like a good hike, Beinn Lora is a mere 3 miles away. Walk the path to the top and you'll be rewarded with panoramic views across Mull, down to Jura and across to Ben Cruachan. Alternatively, for a more relaxed walk, you also have Tralee Beach in the same location.
An Cala is a perfect base for thrill-seekers, wildlife watchers, Munro baggers, foodies and those who just want to sit back and enjoy the view.

A week at Al Cana
Our week at Al Cana is best described as home from home.We had a really enjoyable stay, the view to the front is truly spectacular and we were treated to some really glorious sunsets. The Falls of Lara are a great example of the power of sea and tide, well worth the short walk to watch. The test of any holiday stay is...Would you stay here again...Our answer a resounding..."Definitely ". Ray & Liz....Northumberland.

Great home with everything needed!
A charming and well maintained home with everything you needed! Amazing gardens and stunning views from the front room. Everyone had a great time! Thank you for sharing this with us for our holiday to Oban. Only comment for improvement is bigger beds than a double. My wife and I are used to sleeping on something a little bigger :)

Great location
This is a comfortable house in a stunning location with a private sheltered garden. The living room faces the Loch, so has wonderful views. The owners were very helpful and responded quickly when we couldn’t get the coffee machine to work (our own fault). It would have benefited from a more modern and smart television, but otherwise we were very comfortable.

Super house
Location is good; on a busy road but not really a problem. Gateway can be a bit tight . Well thought out house with lots of things to make it very comfortable - underfloor heating, blackout blinds, automatic blind , good quality beds , good range of extras in kitchen etc. Fabulous views . Would definitely recommend

Fantastic house, views amazing.
Our first time visiting Scotland and the house was first class. Wonderful location with the most amazing views from the living room window. Great garden for our dog fully enclosed and safe. Lovely decor and very comfortable beds, spotless clean, the conservatory overlooking the garden a great place to eat our meals and nice to sit in when it rained. 10 minute drive to Oban, 2 minute drive to Falls of Lora hotel, good lunches and dinner. 10 minute drive to Lochnell Arms hotel, good lunch and views. Oyster Inn next door, good dinner and views. Communication with West Coast cottages was very good, overall we had an amazing time in this lovely house.

A great cottage with a fantastic view!
A lovely dog friendly cottage, with a fantastic view! The garden was big enough for the dog to run about in, to wear him out before bed time, though most days he didn't need it! The size was great for the 4 of us and the dog, we had enough space and privacy. The location was very good next to the Loch, though the road was quite busy, but the bedrooms are at the back so you hardly hear it at night. Nice to have blackout blinds in bedroom too , especially in June! We had a great time here for a week with our friends, our only criticism would be the lack of large pans for pasta etc. If you had 6 people( even if 2 were kids) you would need at least one large saucepan.

The views are breathtaking
We all loved our stay here. My mum normally gets homesick and she did not here. It was extremely well equipped. Providing dishwasher tablets and washing tablets. The garden was secure enough for our terrier, though I did stay out with her as she would find the smallest of holes. The beds were comfy and the showers had enough pressure and were hot. The sofas didn’t feel as comfy as we would have liked..but that is a totally minor issue. I couldn’t stop staring at the view from the living room window and my camera roll may be full from all the stunning sunsets. I would definitely come again and use west coast cottages again. Also highly recommend the stay

House itself could use some improvements but location is excellent and a very well stocked kitchen for self catering holidays.

Wonderful holiday home
Superb location & lovely weather meant that we had a wonderful stay. Handrail banister bit sticky & double bed on small side. But the garden & wildlife made up for these minor issues. Thank you.

Highly recommended cottage in a beautiful location
We had a wonderful stay at An Cala this Spring. The cottage was faultless - very clean, warm, spacious, views to die for, a safe enclosed rear garden and ample parking. The kitchen was really well equipped with everything you could think of, there were plenty of reading material on the local area with books of local walks and a selection of board games to keep everyone entertained in the evening. We loved watching the wildlife from the windows- saw otters and seals from the comfort of our armchairs. The area was a perfect base for exploring the beautiful countryside, our highlights from the week were climbing Beinn Lora, taking the ferry to Mull and pony trekking at Achnalarig near Oban. Also the children's play park at Atlantis Leisure in Oban, is a must for young kids. We would highly recommend a stay here.

What a View
The cottage is in a wonderful location, spacious, spotlessly clean, very comfortable, there was nothing lacking. A well provisioned kitchen, a warm and comfortable living area and a very well maintained garden. The beds were so comfortable, we all slept very well. There was a welcome message from the owner and a good fire burning when we arrived. Two of our group had not visited Scotland before and it was a marvelous introduction for them to see real Scottish hospitality and generosity. Waking up to the views across the road and coming home to An Cala each evening was a delight. The locals were all very friendly, helpful and generous too. We had a wonderful week at An Cala cottage and would recommend this cottage to others visiting the area. If our schedule next year takes us to the area we will definitely look to booking An Cala.

A great base to explore Oban and the surrounding area
This was a great property with a view across Loch Etive to die for. Easy access to Oban and also a stunning drive north to Fort William. The house itself was well equipped with modern appliances and accoutrements. Huge front drive and great back garden which was a bit of a sun trap.

Fabulous location, lovely cottage, marvellous holiday
Loved this cottage - the sunset at the front was beautiful each night and the location was inbetween the places we wanted to go to eg catching the ferry to Mull and exploring Glen Nevis, Fort William etc.

Lovely week at An Cala
This is a really well located property for exploring Oban, surrounding areas and the Islands. Really well equipped, literally a home from home. The property also has a beautiful enclosed garden to the rear which is a suntrap! Would highly recommend and also recommend West Coast Cottages who are a local, family run business that go that extra mile to make your holiday fantastic!

A great place to tour the area
When we arrived at An Cala we were surprised at how small it looked but when we went inside it was deceptively large. Great views, a good size garden and a lovely conservatory for us all to eat breakfast. The pub up the road was perfect for evening meals and the Lochnell Arms a bit further away but walkable was also very good. We managed to cram lots of things into our week and luckily we were blessed with great weather. Our dog, who came with us, really appreciated the long walks we did and although it’s a long way from home (9hours in the car) it was well worth it. The only slight downside is the house is on the main road leading to Oban. Whilst the traffic noise wasn’t an issue due to double glazing, if you have small children or a dog that’s not that well behaved it might be something to consider. Otherwise we all had a fantastic time and we have lots of photos and memories of our week.

Winter break in Connel
Pleased with our choice of self catering property. The property was very well equipped, comfortable and warm. Easy to access and communication with the Agent was excellent. The situation of the house allows for numerous walks from the property as well as within a short drive. It is possible to walk to Oban avoiding the main road along tracks and minor roads and a few shorter walks locally on tracks. Unfortunately Covid restrictions impacted on local amenities available but did not detract too much from a very nice break. The only comments I would make in relation to the house are: the temperature in the downstairs shower was at times inconsistent; the lack of outdoor seating which would be great for the summer but not an issue for a November stay. Would not hesitate to re-book this property.

Lots to commend it
There is lots to commend this property. Nice, spacious, well equipped kitchen with a full size fridge/freezer and underfloor heating. It was great to have more than one each of all the crockery. The lounge and dining area is fairly small but perfectly adequate. The lounge area has a fantastic view of Loch Etive. Good area for coats and shoes. Upstairs bedrooms and bathroom are lovely. Downstairs bedroom and bathroom are good but tired looking. Really comfortable beds which is a huge positive. My criticism of many holiday accommodation is the lack of thought about socket positioning in relation to mirrors and it is the same for this property. Take an extension cable! The garden was great. Young children and dogs need to be supervised in the garden at all times as there is no gate preventing access to the busy road outside. I was really disappointed that the log burner was charged additionally on arrival - there was no prior notification of this before arrival. The property was warm just on the central heating though but being able use the log burner would have made some of evenings cosier. The property information on arrival was topnotch. So, on the whole good choice of accommodation.

review of An Carla
We really enjoyed our stay in the cottage. It is very comfortable, spacious and well thought out. Great view over Connel bay from the lounge window. The kitchen is very well equipped for self catering. This is a good place to stay as it is near Oban and ferries to the islands. There are many walks with great views from Connel itself or a short car drive away.

A very comfortable and extremely clean house
This house is extremely clean and comfortable with an incredible view should the sun shine. The house is extremely well equipped . On arrival it felt a little out of date but it soon became home in, what turned out to be, really bad weather. We enjoyed the log fire in very bad weather but were surprised that it carried extra cost although understandable. If unfamiliar with the area, the busy road and junction beside the house is off putting and traffic can be disturbing in the early hours, but the view from this property in the early hours of the morning is hard to beat. West Coast cottages were attentive and we felt confident that they had really attended to our safety at this frightening time

Weeks holiday in Cottage
Really enjoyed our stay in An Cala. Lovely house in a great location right on the edge of the sea leading into loch etive. Only short distance from Oban and with good access up to Glencoe and fort William. The house had all the facilities we needed although could have done with an outdoor table to eat outside with the exceptional weather we were fortunate to have. An excellent holiday in spectacular surroundings

A great stay in Connel
We spent a week at An Cala and enjoyed it from beginning to end. The view out to the sea is spectacular especially if you are lucky enough to get a sunset. The cottage itself has the facilities one can ask for and provides a perfect home to anyone exploring Oban and Argyll.

Modern property. Well located.
A modern property but well located with great sea view and a short walk to see the river. Pub close by is ok for a meal, and bus from just outside is useful if you want to do the distillery tour in Oban.

A great place to stay with beautiful views
I recently stayed in an Cala and couldn’t recommend it enough! Excellent space, comfortable beds and it provided beautiful views! There is also lots to do in the surrounding area and all within close proximity. We’ve booked with west coast cottages before and are always so happy with their properties and customer service. Thanks
