Spend a quintessential summer in Maine at this darling lakefront cottage on the shores of McGrath Pond. Once featured on Magnolia Network's "Maine Cabin Masters," this home has been lovingly restored as a family gathering space.

This picturesque abode sits near the northeastern corner of McGrath Pond, a spring-fed body of water that flows into Salmon Lake and the five other interconnected Belgrade Lakes. It's a beautiful setting for swimming and kayaking, taking afternoon naps in the hammock, and roasting marshmallows around the firepit at the water's edge. Two kayaks and two paddleboards are provided, so feel free to have adventures on the water and the home's boat slip. Oakland is two miles east while bustling Waterville and renowned Colby College are about four miles beyond.

Enter through a beautiful side deck, where you can barbecue in the afternoons, dine alfresco at sunset, and relax in the evenings while listening to the call of the loons. Inside, the cottage was renovated in a way that kept its charms intact, offering lofty ceilings, exposed crossbeams, and natural wood at every turn. Central heat and air-conditioning ensure comfort all year long.

The living space is lined with windows, allowing you to admire the view of the lake whether you're cooking in the open kitchen, chopping vegetables on the island, or kicking back on the sofas to play cards or stream movies. Two inviting bedrooms, a sleeping loft, and complimentary WiFi, are also provided.

Very happy despite a couple of issues
We had a wonderful three day weekend at the camp. It was very nice and clean. The location is beautiful and the owner should be proud. Everything was excellent. The only issues we had were with the potable water cooler not working without a workaround, we couldn't get the TV to work, and it would be nice if there were privacy blinds in the bathroom and bedroom rather than sheer curtains. We really enjoyed our time here and are already discussing returning next year. Hopefully the water cooler is fixed as you cannot drink the water from the tap at this location.

Fall Fun
We were traveling through New England and were looking forward to spending some time exploring the pond. We’d already been at the coast and were headed to more mountains and hiking inland over the rest of the week. We arrived and found they had put the paddleboards and kayaks away for the season. The neighbors on the cove still had lots of water toys set up. When we called, we were told that they put the Paddleboards and kayaks away October 1st. There was no mention of that in the listing and this was the reason we chose this property so we were very disappointed. We then realized that there were dryer sheets scattered all around, under couch pillows and cushions, in kitchen drawers. It anppears they were closing up for the season. We also had no hot water in the shower for a time period. The property managers send someone out late that afternoon to fix the hot water issue. I had to call the property manager back for updates instead of them reaching back out to me. We were given a small credit back on our rate. I will be cautious renting properties from this property company again. I’ll probably give them another chance somewhere else but only one.

Warning - poor experience and poor communication
I booked this cabin as the highlight of my parents’ 50th anniversary road trip, I hoped 2 nights / 1 full day of the lakefront serenity would suffice. It was clear upon arrival the cabin was in no shape for guests but, being tourist season, other accommodations were not available. The very steep driveway had caution tape across the top. A neighbor made sure my parents knew to stay off the driveway as it was part way through being replaced. The hill is treacherous for anyone with luggage, for a couple in their 70s it is dangerous. Half of the property’s lake frontage had caution tape across it and was undergoing major landscaping work. The first morning a work crew arrived for a half day of loud stump grinding. Workers encouraged my parents to leave the property for a few hours, so they did. Upon checking out of the cabin my mom found a binder with rental info under the kitchen island, one page said “Caution: tap water not for drinking.” My dad had used the tap water for coffee, diarrhea lasted a week. I was provided no indication of the property’s multiple large projects nor that a crew and heavy machinery would disrupt my parents special day. And there are no notes next to taps or in the listing itself alerting guests to the water being unsafe. I messaged this info within the VRBO app, I followed up via phone with Vacasa two weeks later, they offered a 10% refund. A lot of money down the drain and a sad 50th anniversary. A shame Vacasa gets away with such theft.

Relaxing stay
My family of three stayed at this cabin for 5 nights. First, the view of the lake was gorgeous! There is a nice firepit with chairs outside, which my husband and I used every night! It was so relaxing to sit by the water and the fire, enjoying the fresh air. The stars are absolutely beautiful at night, and it was pretty quiet and peaceful. Also, the cabin was well appointed with items you would need to store and prepare meals during your stay. There was plenty of sleeping space. The loft has two beds, and the floor space is up there is quite large. I slept very well, the mattresses and pillows were comfortable. The bathroom was a decent size, with plenty of towels. Overall we really enjoyed our time here and would return again!

Wonderful traditional Maine camp
Loved the spot on McGrath Pond. Situated on a cove, it was not busy but quiet and calm. There were communal water toys, floats, trampolines, and slides you could use just by asking. The camp has traditional Maine features and plenty of toys such as paddle boards and kayaks. The loft was a great place for my two daughters to hang out. Views were terrific. Located in Oakland, it is in the midst of the legendary Belgrade Lakes. Close to populated areas such as Waterville and Augusta. Easy access to I-95 and other primary roads.

Quintessential lake experience
This property offers all that was needed for a lake side getaway. Close enough to “town” for any forgotten items. The area for seating at the waters edge is lovely in the mornings and evenings. Fishing poles in the cabin allowed for some casting. The paddle boards were a bit hit and the water is calm and easy to navigate, kayaks were available too. The TV was helpful when we arrived and it was raining, the metal roof gave some great background noise for a deep sleep. Lots of natural light and big windows to watch the lake come alive each day. We were able to watch two bald eagles (must be a nest nearby) swoop to the water and retreat to their land location. We wish we could have stayed longer and are planning a return visit.

Comfy Cove
We stayed 4 nights with three children. The lake was clean and warm and gorgeous. Situated close, but not too close to other rentals we had really nice interactions with other renting families and our kids had a blast. Kayaks and paddleboards were great! The house was very well equipped.

Beautiful Gem of a Cabin
We were planning on camping for vacation but it was supposed to pour the whole time. So we found this beautiful cabin right on the water at the last minute. The only negative was the steep driveway but as long as you have AWD you will be fine. It was beautiful, clean and the kitchen was well stocked with cookware. The loft had a wonderful sturdy ladder and railing that made climbing in and out of it a breeze even for full grown adults. The wifi and small tv were perfect for watching movies on the rainy days. The big bed's mattress in the main bedroom was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept on in a rental. There isn't alot of privacy, you can pretty much hear everything from any corner of the cabin, but it is a classic Maine cabin getaway that doesn't disappoint. Plus the pouring rain on the metal roof was the best sound to fall asleep to. I was actaully sad when I woke up and the rain had stopped. The island in the kitchen is so big and beautiful, cooking meals was a breeze. I highly reccomend this cabin. We had a fantastic time!
