Except for some minor issues and one major problem with the particular week we rented, the property is a great getaway--especially if one enjoys water-related activities. Most of the minor issues would be easily remedied, e.g., providing a supply of dishwasher detergent, replacing a couple of broken blinds in the living room, and fixing the toilet in the master bathroom so it does not run continuously. A few would be more difficult, e.g., providing better lighting in the kitchen and dining area and improving access to the lakeshore. Unfortunately, Wednesday through Sunday during our seven-day stay, the house next door was demolished, several large trees were cut down, and all of the resulting debris was burned, removed, and/or buried. In addition, the basement for a new house was dug on the cleared site. This work involved a very large track hoe excavator, a bulldozer, and a dump truck. The noise produced by all this activity intruded strongly on our enjoyment of the property's screened porch, yard, and dining pavilion. However, this disturbance was a onetime event; and presumably, the rental property owners were unaware that the demolition/construction would take place during our stay.
That said, the property really is perfect for a mini family reunion during these COVID-19 times. The open layout of the house, screen porch, and outdoor dining area make social distancing easy. We spent hours on the nearby trails, kayaking from the beachfront, and watching the Perseid meteor shower--just the getaway we all needed.
