Home is close to birding locations such as Magee Marsh and Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge for easy early-morning access. Anyone looking for a beach holiday should be aware that in May 2024 the beach at the end of the road was littered with rotting fish carcasses and smelled horrible. Also, the sunset view from the dining room and porch was obstructed by a camping trailer parked next to the house across the street. The house itself was clean and comfortable and the neighborhood was quiet at night. The kitchen is somewhat equipped, but bring your own wine glasses, microwaveable bowl or casserole dish, and extra dish towels. Washer and dryer were very convenient. The hosts provided minimal information before check-in or in the home (compared to other VRBO rentals), so do your homework on area grocery stores, restaurants, and activities. (The hosts were available by phone and helped resolve a check-in question quickly.) Wifi was reliable and rooms have individual heating/cooling controls. Bring extra blankets and pillows, as there are non onsite. Water was fine to drink, no smell even though you are next to the lake. We enjoyed the convenience of the location, and hope to visit again in future migration seasons.
