Great location, lots of room for improvement
We were a group of five friends, most visiting Oak Bluffs for the first time. As a group of 40-somethings who travel frequently, we've stayed in countless rentals in various parts of the world. First, the pros: the home is in a prime location, an easy walk to the beach and main street with shopping and restaurants. We spent the majority of our time out and about and the house was an easy and convenient spot in the center of everything. The porch and outdoor shower were both delightful and much appreciated by our whole group. There were plenty of bath and beach towels, beach chairs and enough paper towels and TP for our five night stay.

Great Getaway
I went on a bachelor getaway and stayed at this location and it checked off all needs I was looking for. This place is great for anyone trying to get the MV experience without the MV cost. It was a convenient location that also had enough amenities to keep us happy. Firstly, I would strongly advise NOT to go here if you plan on bringing children or any adult that acts like one; the house was filled top to bottom with antique glass and original paintings that were just asking to be broken. We also ran into a couple structural malfunctions, but the owner was quick to call us and resolve the issue, although we were able to fix it ourselves (door swung shut and locked itself). Although the inside looked like an I SPY book and certain things could be maintained or refurbished, this was a great spot to crash and hang out. It was quiet while also being close enough to the center to walk to. People not used to sleeping over their elderly grandparents' house might be put off by the antique smell or spooky rooms, but if you can get past that you'll have a great stay.

Unfortunate
The property was clean, the location was amazing. As soon as we entered the smell was almost unbearable, smelt like old mothballs. It’s an old house with so many nicknacks you have to put some away so they don’t get broken. That didn’t bother us we love all the charm of a house with character. I had to get incense and vinegar to put in bowls to help get rid of the smell, it did work a little. If there was another option we would have moved it was that bad. We couldn’t use the dressers in the bedroom for fear our clothes would stink. The dryer vent sits in a container of water not vented outside, this is important to know and not mentioned anywhere on the listing. Imagine doing laundry and cooking in the same room and the heat from the dryer blasting in the kitchen it’s just not ideal. I would think it’s dangerous. Unfortunate it’s are only vaca all year I should have questioned the small when I saw it in another review.

Great location, beautiful property - problems indoors
Location was great. Had a beautiful vacation with family. BUT, this house needs MAJOR decluttering and professional repairs. Kitchen was fine, But we had several minor injuries to our group: tripping on heavy furniture (excessive old, uncomfortable & worn furniture everywhere), protruding metal on door locks and porch rail. House so full of unnecessary, uncomfortable, old furniture and sloping floors, there was no room to maneuver around dining room table, or corners, etc. Dirty rugs throughout. Didn’t want to go barefoot inside! Note to Owner: your property and location are absolutely great. We would love to stay here again but not unless living areas were more clean & comfortable for all ages.

Great porch view, but old/dusty house
Great ocean view/location - really old carpets that leave soles of feet black within minutes…lots of dust.

Observations on 20 Someset Oak Bluffs
20 Someset Observations Good: At the end of the week, we had had a great time at the property: Loved sitting out on the porch with the ocean view Beautiful ocean view from three of the four rooms beds are comfortable The outdoor shower is wonderful (when pressure is full...) The kitchen is actually pretty well stocked and a sign in the kitchen will guide you to most of the available tools... Not so: There are a couple of windows on the property are broken There are a couple of broken screens in the bedroom doors grill gas ran out on Wednesday hooks on the wall in the bathrooms are dangerous for eye health, particularly for tall people, which we are. the dishwasher is wonky to start (I did get it running however by applying pressure to the closed door while I press the start button). Cluttered arrangement of the furniture and other items in the home presents a hazard for big and tall (greater than 6') people to navigate beds are too short for tall people kitchen (in particular) was frustrating in its disorganization: several pots and pans and wood cutting boards were stored in the oven. Discovered this upon preheating one day! finding kitchen items is a game of hunt and seek; example found an ice cream scooper in the dining room on top of a chest containing a variety of shot glasses outdoor shower water pressure drops to pitiful flow when sprinkler system activates at 6:15 to 7 PM (a time when we might be coming off the beach and want to use the shower) the ceiling on outdoor shower means tall individuals (my kids are 6'3" plus) have head against it when showering None of the floors is level; you feel like you are falling backward when seated on some of the slanted floors (upstairs bathroom and first-floor dining room in particular) The day we arrived, the place smelled great likely due to something the cleaners sprayed. Slowly we noticed a musty (? Urine) smell at the base of the stairs and in the upstairs bathroom. It might be nice to have an A/C unit in the 4th bedroom.

Premium price, dated house
Great location, great porch, nice outdoor shower. "Beautiful antiques" is a euphemism for old, outdated furniture. Ceilings had major water leaks at one point, and are falling in. Doors don't close, and bathroom doors don't lock. House full of clutter. Kitchen towels and oven mitts are years old and dirty. Dishwasher broke during visit, and even when fixed, had standing water in the bottom. Clothes dryer is in the middle of the kitchen (and is the "table" for the coffee maker), and is an apartment style dryer. It literally vents into the kitchen. Screen door broken, and missing screen. Bare bulbs on the ceiling throughout the house. Lawn sprinklers go on during the time you want to use the outdoor shower (5PM), and uses all the water pressure. If you're looking for a great location, you found it. If you're looking for the house described on the website for the premium price you are paying, then you will be sorely disappointed.

Perfect location!
This house is perfectly located walking distance to the beach, park town shops, restaurants and entertainment. The outdoor shower was cool...neighbors were nice! Rabbits occasionally in the backyard were so cute.

Great Location
This home location was great for walking into town or to the beach and the front porch was an awesome place to relax. Although the home is an older home and carpet smells musty, it was sufficiently clean and adequate.

August 2017 at Samoset
Our rental was in a great location and had a fabulous porch. The house was clean and we enjoyed the outdoor shower. We were a little surprised by the decor. The online pictures are deceiving. Everything is very dated from the furniture to the artwork and bedding. We had beautiful weather so we didn't spend much time inside so overall it worked for us.

Very old and poorly maintained
This was our 5th summer traveling to MV and I must say that this is the worst property we have stayed at. First the positive - the location was great. Walking distance to Circuit Ave, Inkwell Beach and the park.... But the house is very old and is in need of a lot of maintenance (doors missing screens, dishwasher not working, etc). The entire house is leaning and it is very noticeable in the dining and bath rooms...because of this, non of the doors closed properly. The furniture was old, uncomfortable and not clean. The beds were also old and the pillow were flat. On top of all that, the house had ants in the kitchen and bathroom.

Victorian Delight
We had a great stay with friends at 20 Samoset Oak Bluffs. The location is perfect for wherever you might want to go on the island. Easy walk to the beach or town for ice cream. The house is absolutely charming! Each room has its’ own special appeal. We loved the outdoor shower. The front porch is the best place to end the day with friends. When you think of Martha’s Vineyard – this is what you think of. Thank you !

Samoset House
This house is located in a great area of Oak Bluffs. You're in walking distance of Inkwell beach, multiple bars, restaurants, shops, etc. The only negative thing about this house is the fact that there is no air conditioning. With it being 90+ degrees during our stay, we would have been much more comfortable in a house that gave us a break from the heat. Other than that, the house was a great size and had plenty of room for 8 guests.

Summer Views
I’ve had the pleasure of spending time at 20 Samoset over the past several years. It is an absolutely enchanting house with a rocking chair porch, charming Victorian decor and wonderful views of Nantucket Sound. The ability to walk to Oak Bluffs many restaurants and shops and a short walk to the beach make it an ideal location. Ann Garti

Can't Wait to Return
Hi I stayed at this beautiful home in August 2015 with my husband and again in August 2016 with my girlfriends. The location is excellent where you can look at the ocean from sitting on the front porch and from the window in my bedroom. It was so relaxing with the ocean breeze and enjoying a cocktail in the evening as you relax on the porch. You can walk into town with restaurants, shopping and ice cream shops and see the famous carousel. The bedrooms are very pretty and very comfortable. There is a nice kitchen beautiful Victorian living room and dining room. This is a special home that you can see is well cared for. I loved the beautiful flower beds around the home too. I'm hoping to come in August and stay again if I can squeeze it into my summer. Thank you
