"Bedrooms were spacious. The decor was a little tired but not too perfect for family occupation! Service was good; the staff made every effort to make us feel comfortable. The breakfast buffet was excellent- it had lots of choice. Situation was good with views and access to a safe bay. It would have been nice to have longer hours than 9 to 5 at the pool. "

"The staff is very accomodating. We arrived early around 2pm, and the owner let us checked in around that time. It was supposed to be 3pm. The bedroom is also much bigger in person and its also clean! Will probably go back again next year! Thank you"

"Nice traditional rooms - clean and good-sized. Loved the onsen/bath! Right on an easy bus route 3 stops /6 minutes from Shimoda station and another 5 stops/10 mins or so to Shirahama Beach. Cons - no wi-fi in rooms. Staff not very welcoming or friendly. There’s a Jonathon's family restaurant and a 7-11 but other than that very limited dining options within walking distance but Shimoda is very sleepy so without a car your options are pretty limited unless staying in the ‘city’ "

"The facility was well organized and pleasant. Seemed like a converted warehouse. The room was well done with tatami mat, beautiful wood doors and ceiling panels. I was travelling without a car and it was storming at night. This made it difficult to get to town for dinner. I found the Hana Cafe nearby on Google maps. It turned out to be very pleasant. My only question is: why isn’t this town more crowded with visitors? It’s lovely! Like Hawaii but with seagulls (and better price performance). I had a great onsen experience late at night while it was storming outside. I opened both windows and let the cool air blow through the room. "

"This place is right on the shirahama central beach with amazing views. Beach can be accessed from the ground floor. They had shower facilities to clean up. Staff were very friendly and supportive. Loved our stay. "

"Great place for families visiting Shimoda and Izu Peninsula. Definitely a hotel catering to Japanese tourists, but with a little Japanese and respect the staff is very friendly and works with you. Some of the staff spoke some English. Bathhouse, arcade, and hotel amenities were great. Walking distance to everything downtown and easy spot to drive to other locations. Would definitely stay here again with family on vacation. "

"Simple living arrangement during Niijima visit. The guesthouse is centrally located, close to bike rental shops cafes, supermarkets and bars / restaurants. The host is very kind and helpful when our ferry out was cancelled due to strong winds. We extended our stay by one night. The guesthouse itself is very basic - small bedroom with thin futon beds and shared kitchen, washroom and shower. I couldn't get hot water but we mainly used the public Onsen anyway. The laundry facilities came in handy as we packed super light. Bring your own plush towels if you're like me... Perhaps because it's on an island, the guesthouse was the most expensive (£63) among budget options we stayed in around Izu (£25 per pax in Ito and £50 per pax in Shimoda). "
