Cubert. Renovated 16th C. cottage Nr Crantock Holywell and Polly Joke beaches

Elmar is a large four hundred year old period cottage complete with a massive Inglenook fireplace and bread oven situated in a quiet village location tucked away next to the ancient parish church just a mile away from the sea. The cottage comfortably sleeps four guests in two bedrooms. The bedrooms have just been renovated to expose stone and cob walls and a delightful ancient fireplace in the main bedroom Its character features, wood burning stove and quiet location make it an ideal romantic retreat for couples, including those who want to bring their dog away with them.Perfect for families in the school holidays as well. Two pubs, two restaurants and a general store/Post Office compliment the village. Cubert is well located with easy access to Crantock beach, Polly Joke and Holywell Bay. The attractions of the Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan, Lands End are easily reached by car as are the famous fishing villages up and down the coast. The surf capital of Britain, Newquay, is only five miles away with its world famous facilities. Cubert however is more suited to those seeking a more tranquil family holiday with very pretty walks to the beaches including Polly Joke which has recently been voted one of Britain’s best secret beaches. Locally there are two pubs in the village including the picturesque Smugglers Den Inn, a delightful 16th Century Thatched Inn a restaurant and organic bakery. . The Three local beaches are all within walkable distance of the cottage. Holywell Bay and Crantock Beach offer vast sandy bays with dunes, rock pools and caves to explore. In between is the gem that is Polly Joke, a gloriously natural beach surrounded by nothing more than National Trust headlands with a beautiful rugged coastline. For walkers, join the South West coastal path which meanders through the three local beaches before rising up the magnificent headlands on its spectacular journey on this section of the coast. Good shore fishing locally, with charter boats available at Newquay.

Great Character Cottage
Beautifully decorated, cosy and comfortable and only a mile to lovely Holywell Bay which is one of the best dog friendly beaches in Cornwall in our opinion. Shop, bakery/deli and fish and chip shop close by. Loads of great coastal walks nearby and so many lovely beaches, pubs and places of interest to visit. Particularly like all the old mine engine houses dotted around and the local history about mining, fishing. Will definitely be returning.

Lovely cottage in a thriving community
Well equipped clean cottage. The steps into the bathroom however should be clearly marked as very difficult to see and could be potentially dangerous. Define with different coloured tiling? Good location close to the coast and situated in a village that has good amenities.

Jubilee staycation
This was our second visit to Elmar and we loved it even more the second time. The kids loved having wifi and we enjoyed all the cottages comforts. Cubert is a fab place to stay and was particularly gorgeously decorated for the jubilee. Would thoroughly recommend.

As Lovely as Ever
Me with my 2 adult children plus dog. The cottage is perfect for us: Cubert is an adorable village and close to so much all within a walkable distance: a local shop, great chippy, Crantock and West Pentire only a short drive away with Polly Joke beach. Facilities at Elmar are all there, always clean, with a good size kitchen and bathroom. Central heating, fab log fire and cozy lounge for nights in. Lack of Wi-Fi may put younger families off but being able to switch off isn't a bad thing sometimes. We'll be back very soon, again.

Beautiful cottage in a great location
The cottage is beautiful and very well equipped. It’s in a lovely village with local pubs and small shops within walking distance. The beaches and walks around the area are great and plentiful. The garden is lovely although not directly outside the property. Parking is shared with the cottage next door so good communication is required with your neighbours but we didn’t have any problems. I would definitely return and recommend.

A wild few days
Loved the inside of the cottage, beautifully renovated !!!!!... Super location, near to beautiful dog friendly beaches and great to have a dog exercise village field opposite the cottage and an enclosed garden. Our only real problem (not the owner's fault) was when we arrived the boiler was not working so we had no heat or hot water. It took three engineers on three different days to sort the problem. We were able to light the wood burner for heat in the evening but not hot water. Owner very helpful and has given us a partial refund immediately. The steps up (and crucially down) from back door into kitchen are quite steep and when wet slippery. The dog had a crashing fall and so did one of the engineers who came to fix the boiler. Good village shop. Other amenities closed but as Februarly not surprising.

Comfortable and Peaceful place to stay
We're really pleased with our choice of Elmer Cottage to stay at for our long weekend break. The cottage was well appointed and comfortable in a quiet location with local amenities close at hand. It quickly felt like a home from home.

Charming cottage in an excellent location
The cottage is charming and very nicely refurbished and offered everything we needed for a great holiday.Enjoyed the village location of the cottage and the fact we could take our dog. The village of Cubert has a small convenience store/post office and bakers, which were really handyand there is a recreation/dog friendly field opposite and small park the other end of the village. There are a couple of local pubs The Anvil in the village and the Snugglers den a walk across fields. The beaches are incredible, surrounded by stunning countryside all within healthy walking distances or very short car rides (if you are National trust member you get free car parking at Holywell and crantock. Prolly joke is free parking). We went also took our 6 yr old boy who loved the different beaches, but not as keen on the walking back, hence using the car on occasions

Fantastic little cottage, everything you need for a base-camp from which to explore the surrounding
We stayed for a week at the cottage with our year old daughter, the pictures do not do the cottage and garden justice it is very well presented and has everything you need. The garden is a little bit away from the house so take a baby monitor if you want to have a baby and want to have evening bbqs. We loved it, will definitely be back! :)

Perfect
The most quintessential English country cottage, complete with all mod cons. Great location and the village has everything you need if you don’t want to get in the car. Every room in the cottage is really comfy, beds and duvets plus settees. Bathroom and shower also fab with air cupboard to dry anything as needed. Kitchen fully equipped and the outside space is brill to enjoy and evening bbq. Lovely also to have no internet. Wouldn’t hesitate to go back.
