Perfect fall weekend
Enjoyed a quick weekend getaway on the lake in Newcastle. It was a great place to rest and watch the changing season with beautiful islands and fishing all close to town for oysters, a river cruise, and a nearby brewery. Appreciate that you are dog-friendly as well!

Dangerous dock and more on the lake
We were so looking forward to our week at this lovely place, and it was quite nice, at first glance. Then, it was one thing after another. In the interest of keeping this brief, I’ll just say that, 1. It was summer and most of the windows did not open, so there was no air circulation, nor was there even one air conditioner in a window. 2. Renting a house on a lake with a dock that is falling apart, doesn’t have stairs and is dangerous is unacceptable. We left 2 days early.

True lakefront getaway
This rental has amazing views, especially from the master bedroom. It is old dog friendly, our Bernese mountain dog was super comfortable sleeping downstairs. We visited in early spring, which is always a roll of the dice, so it was a bit cold and rainy but we still found time to visit a few breweries and take a walk in Boothbay Harbor which is only about 25 minutes away. The only thing missing was a tea kettle and a good coffee maker, but we can bring them with us next time we visit. This rental provided a well needed relaxing and restful weekend.

Relaxing retreat
We had the most amazing stay at this cabin by the lake! The location was even better than described, check in and out was easy, and when we couldn’t figure out how to light the fireplace someone from Vacasa reached out almost immediately to help us! The cabin was a cozy retreat with all the amenities of home. And the view!!! We couldn’t have asked for a nicer place to spend the weekend- we will definitely be back.

Enjoyable but needs some attention.
This cottage is right on the edge of a beautiful lake and is easily accessible to Damariscotta. We visited in mid-October when there was little activity on the lake and it was very quiet. The state and comfort of the house was a mix. Bathrooms and the bedrooms were clean. There were plenty of bath towels/face cloths etc. The upstairs bed was very comfortable and one has a sense of being perched right over the lake from this charming room.

Ideal location. Slight house improvements can be easily done.
This is one of the best locations we’ve found in Maine. Lovely breezes right on the lake. Loons every morning and evening and eagles soaring over to their nest on the island across the way. We brought canoes and paddled our to Spectacle Island for the rope swing over the water. And the location is a great launching point for all sorts of midcoast attractions. Some constructive feedback for this property. There were some basic/essential housewares missing: We were given no contact info for a local property manager/ contact. Fortunately we didn’t need one during our stay. There were no sheets for the pull out bed. We had to run into town to buy them. We left them at the house. For a house with no dishwasher it was strange that there were no dish towels in the kitchen. We had to use wash cloths. This is the first rental property in Maine I’ve seen without a lobster pot. Someone had been eating lobster because there were some crackers and meat picks. We bought a pot and left it with the house. Several of the dishes in the cabinet were dirty/greasy when we arrived. We washing all the dishes in the cabinet. For a house that accommodates 6 there should be more than 3 bowls. There was an occasional septic smell when we ran the laundry machine.

Perfect for a quick recharge
My husband and I stayed for 2 nights, we were looking for a short recharge where we could unplug and relax. The gas fireplace and water views provided just that. Loved the upstairs sitting area with the view. Kitchen was very well stocked. Being able to bring our pup made it even better. We didn’t leave the property once! Great for a short winter getaway!

Far exceeded expectations
We had a fantastic time staying at this rental and regretted it was for only two nights. The kitchen was well stocked for us to cook breakfast every day and a dinner for the four of us one night. The fireplace was enjoyed in the evenings while we played cards at the dining room table and we were pleased to have a washing machine to launder our clothes at the halfway point of our trip. The showers worked great so all basics were covered. What we didn’t expect was the view! Simply gorgeous. The upstairs bedroom has a couple of lounging chairs looking out over the water and we all spent a lot of time staring out of the windows. The nearby town is lovely and we enjoyed a fabulous dinner at the Newcastle Publick House. The surrounding countryside is delightful. This place is definitely on our ‘Must go back to’ list. Thank you so much.

Good overall. Fireplace wasn’t wood burning like advertised. Was gas and gas was empty. They need to get a canoe and couple of paddles. Tried to use neighbors who was in the same family. Hate to say it but lady was the only rude person we met in Maine. I understand this had nothing to do with rental but I wouldn’t rent again without access to a canoe.

Cozy small lakefront
This cottage is a cozy place for two or three adults. (There is no safe area for children to play outside; the property is on a slope with a quick drop off to the water.)The downstairs bedroom is very small; the upstairs bedroom is quite large with a sitting area overlooking the lake. Beds in both rooms are comfortable, there’s good water pressure In both bathrooms and sufficient hot water for showers, and the WiFi works well throughout the cottage. The kitchen equipment is very basic, as is the cable tv lineup. While the living room area furniture could be improved and there are some general maintenance issues I trust will be addressed before next season (condition of dock, trash removal, minor plumbing/heating problems) we had a good week (and good fishing) and will consider staying here again.

Relaxing lakeside retreat
Second time staying here. Very quiet and relaxing stay. Loved the cleanliness and tranquility of the lake! A few small issues. First, was the accumulation of small gnats somehow getting into the cabin over the length of our stay. They were accumulating around lights and on the bathroom sinks and shower areas. They didn’t bite but were just bothersome to see and clean up daily. Second, there needs to be more cooking and glassware.. When we stayed last year, there was an assortment of drinking, glasses, wine glasses, and cutlery. No so this year. The cookware needs to be updated. Some of the pans were old and worn, and last year there was a very nice blender that was not present this year. Aside from that, we had another enjoyable stay once again!

Disappointment
The lake view is beautiful from the house, if you can ignore the bugs on the windows. The screens look like they haven’t been brushed for many months. The dust under the upstairs bed also has been untouched. Maintenance is lacking. Dock and pier with chipping paint. The pier is grossly uneven. No ladder on dock, only the top rings which are missing half the screws, unusable so unable to get out of water. Area leading to water difficult to navigate because of unevenness. Towel bar not hung in upstairs bathroom. Mattress in upstairs bedroom needs replacing. Ceiling above fireplace coming down. Not the rental we expected.

Excellent location, home needs maintenance.
This rental was not a last-minute decision for us we've been planning on it since November 2018 when we secured the rental. While the location was excellent the property had issues. We were three adult couples three brothers and the wives. One couple sleeping in the first floor bedroom almost left after the first night because the first night of sleeping was so uncomfortable no one got any sleep. I would recommend that this rental is for two adults and four children based on the sleeping accommodations. The only way we were able to stay was by going to Walmart and buying an air mattress and moving the dining table and blowing up the air mattress and leaving the air mattress in the dining room table location and then moving it every morning one person was on the air mattress one person stayed in the bed in the first floor bedroom. Other areas that need fixing. -all the living room screens let bugs in. A major issue with ventilation and cooling. -the oven didn’t heat well, although the stove worked fine. -the dock is stable but in disrepair with lots of splinters and paint flaking off everyplace. No ladder, which makes it unswimmable due to the landscaping around the shoreline. -the downstairs bathroom sink had to be unclogged when we arrived and this was a recurring problem. -the general landscaping to the water access needs work. We still had a great time since this is such a great location but were a bit disappointed in the condition of the rental. -

We truly enjoyed our stay in the yellow cottage. The lake is beautiful and the views are fantastic! The home was well decorated, very clean and comfortable. We left a few suggestions for the property manager to address; but perhaps one important note is the proximity of the home to the lake. The home sits very close to the lake & the property would benefit from landscaping on the waterfront side. If I were a parent of young children; the state of the waterfront side would be a safety concern.

Great lake house with lovely wood interiors
We had a great time on the property for our July 4th stay. The dock is great and everyone had a fun time diving off of it and attaching floaties to it. It was a rather hot long weekend, and some fans would have helped with the circulation (we ended up purchasing some after the first day), but the abundance of windows did help. Vacasa handled the communications, and so we had to call their calling service (for an unrelated issue), but in all other respects, one of the best Airbnb experiences I've had.
