It was only a 10 minute drive from the public beach & there were many good eating choices down by the beach. In the morning we were right next to the I 94 entrance but never heard traffic through the night

Staff was very friendly. Morning breakfast was good -- better than other continental breakfasts. We love the pancake machine. Seems like an older building, definitely felt like it could use some updates. Elevator was a little janky, rooms just felt older, outdated. Not quite as clean as we'd like, but okay enough. One "issue" -- the soap dispenser mount on the wall was well out of reach for my child, and they didn't have any other soap option (no bar soap), so was just a nuisance. We've stayed at a Holiday Inn Express in South Haven earlier in the summer and that one was really nice so we came in with a higher expectation perhaps.

I was very disappointed with the quality of room that was given to me. Upon arrival, we noticed that the toilet wasn’t working properly and had not been cleaned. A front desk staff member said that she would have to fix the toilet because there was no maintenance crew available. She then told me that she couldn’t give me a new room unless it was authorized by her manager, however no other room was available. I had to call customer service to report the issue and get a new room that suddenly became available. The staff member didn’t seem to believe me when I told her the toilet was found dirty and denied not already knowing that the room had a malfunctioning toilet. I was unable to cancel this room booking and ended up staying at the Four Winds Casino Hotel instead. I will never book a room with the Holiday Inn again. In the end, we were given a better room after having to go through the ordeal of calling customer service a couple of times.
