Nestled just inside the Tahoe National Forest, this beautiful log home sits high atop the remnants of an old hydraulic gold mine with panoramic views of Banner Mountains and the woods. This unique home gives one the experience of being peacefully secluded, yet is a short seven mile drive to downtown Nevada City, offering fine dining, entertainment, museums and shopping. The Retreat is ideal for family reunions, workshops and vacations for relaxing and recreation. If you are a writer looking for a place to peace out, there is no better place.

A stones throw from the Retreat lies a charming community park with a swimming, Kayak, Paddle Board pond, beautiful walking trail, horseshoe pit, BBQ area, playground and sand volleyball court.

The park is for rent and makes a great venue for a casual, affordable weddings, family reunions, or group get together's. Ask owner about it.

Popular Scott's Flat Lake is less than a mile away. The south side boat ramp, provides access for swimming, hiking, boating, water skiing, sailing, fishing and kayaking and paddle boarding on this pristine body of water. The fishing is awesome too!

Master suite with queen bed, private bath. Second bedroom offers a queen log framed bed and the third bedroom features two twin beds and a game table. Loft includes a full size sofa bed. Queen size Aerobed air mattress is also available.

Antique clawfoot bathtub/shower. Queen size and twin air mattresses for the loft, great room or deck.

Great room with grand cathedral Ceiling and gas fireplace.

Fully equipped designer kitchen, service for twelve.

Wireless high speed Starlink internet access. Dish Network HDTV, Blu-Ray DVD player. Cabin has internet so Netflix, Pandora, etc., access is possible on computer or tablet. Gas BBQ on the patio.

Three lake kayaks, two single and one tandem with paddler, and two paddle boards along with life jackets etc.. Located only one mile from Scotts Flat Lake for great sailing, skiing, kayaking, fishing and swimming.

A short walk to a local park with swimming pond, playground, horse shoe pits and sand volleyball court. There also good fishing year round. Park is available for rent for private parties, reunions and weddings.

Lost Mine Retreat is very private. For the security of our guest travelers, the exterior driveway, all cabin entry areas, including hot tub egress, are motion sensor photo recorded.

A Great Nevada City Getaway
Gary's spot is the place to be! As a host, I couldn't have asked for a more thorough and communicative host who provided all the necessary information you could think of. The property is amazing! Secluded and peaceful in the woods with an amazing interior and kitchen for all your needs. Exceptional hot tub as well! The property is a bit of a drive to Nevada City and Grass Valley's downtown areas but it's also a really lovely drive and the roads are perfectly in tact so nothing to worry about there. I would highly recommend!

Cabin in the woods
The cabin itself was beautiful and nestled on top of a hill that would be awesome to sled down when it snows but gave us a gorgeous view during summer. The cabin is perfectly located and not too far away from any activity. But it’s far enough away that you feel secluded. The hot tub was wonderful and we could see so many stars at night! I was surprised how fully stacked the cabin was. There were kayaks and paddle boards that you could use there! You don’t need to stress if you forgot anything. Gary has got you covered! Overall it was a wonderful time and we will definitely be back!

Lovely Stay
We had a great time at this cabin. It was well-appointed and tucked in a beautiful area in the woods. We toured a mine, went for a hike, and splashed around in the little "lake" nearby.

Lovely, peaceful, well cared for, great location!!
Everything you could need has been thought out. The cabin, is clean, well kept, just Lovely!! We played Jenga, life sized jenga, watched the 49ers. Went down to the Lost mine park down the street, enjoyed the Grass valley antique mall, went to the Gold star mining museum, had a great chat with the really nice lady at the local market down the street, spent some time at the narrow gauge railroad museum. Hiked around the cabin. Had family over, cooked, laughed, just enjoyed the wonderful space!! We had a family wedding down at the park, and on the various days leading up to and the day of.the wedding. We had plenty of space to host groups of family and friends. Everyone who came was so impressed!! Gary has provided such a wonderful space to truly have a great vacation!! It is an experience!!!

This place is now our favorite spot to go. It has everything I look for when booking a home; it was super clean and secluded. Our stay was magical; we arrived at a perfect 70 degrees and left under a considerable snowstorm... What a treat; we wished we could have stayed longer.

The property was very nice. It was secluded enough and had plenty of things to do near by. Gary was easy to work with and to get a hold of. I would recommend this place to friends and family. The hot tub was a nice addition. We brought our dirt bikes and side by side and found snow and good riding close by.

Really enjoyed our stay. House was very roomy and comfortable. Had all the amenities needed. More than enough room if you had a large party. Bed was very comfortable with roomy bathrooms. Very close to lake which is a bonus. Looking to come back in warmer months

What a place!
Really enjoyed our stay at the Lost Mine Retreat. Plenty of room for our grown kids and 2 grandkids to feel comfortable and enjoy the space. Everything we needed for our stay was available and the property was clean and new. We were a short drive outside of Nevada City where we went each day to grab a meal or hit the store in town. Great little town to just walk around. We really enjoyed the jacuzzi and made use of the BBQ’s out last night there along with the boys playing a cornhole tournament. They also had kayaks which we did not use but were available if needed. Gary was great to work with and very accommodating. We will definitely plan another trip to the Lost Mine Retreat.

Wonderful family-time holiday getaway
We had a wonderful stay! We enjoyed cooking in the spacious kitchen and appreciated all of the cookware and dishes, we had everything we needed. The kitchen has a large table we used to play a game and to put together a puzzle. The hot tub was large enough for the four of us and is very well maintained. We also really enjoyed the gas fireplace, it warmed the place up quickly and made the living room a cozy place to hang out and to read. We also liked being close enough to Nevada city to pop over for a coffee in the morning.

Spring break
Gary was super helpful in giving us suggestions as to where we might go sledding. The snowfall was breathtaking! The cabin was comfortable for all. We will come again in warm weather!
