Check-in was a nightmare! The host needs to prepare a totally new plan to get the guest into the property. Arrangements need to be made upon reserving the property. The host claimed she had sent emails to us a few days before arrival, but we never received them. We were on a cruise to Europe and we never received emails she sent a few days before arrival. Hosts should make all the arrangements at booking and all the hassle can be avoided. Put keypad locks on the doors and give the guest the code upon arrival or when booking.
Upon arrival we tried unsuccessfully to contact the host. We contacted VRBO and they were able to get her. Her gracious mother was kind enough to come to the property and let us in and show us around the unit. She was a real jewel!
The unit was very nice except it had essentially no heat. It was cold and windy and we had to bundle up in blankets.
VRBO has a serious problem with hosts and check-in procedures. Imagine being in a foreign country and arrive at a property without any means to get in or even locate the correct property. We are going to be very careful in the future if we use VRBO and get all the check-in issues resolved before we arrive at the property.
