"We stayed two nights as part of a fall color trip. As always the hotel was clean. Our stay was good. The location of this hotel is perfect, great jumping off point for all your UP day trips. Not that this is a big deal, but the receptionist who checked us in was wearing sweatpants, a little unprofessional if you ask me. However that did not have any bearing on how good our stay was. "

"Staff was very friendly! Rooms were standard, and had basic amenities plus a microwave, mini fridge and safe. Spacious bathroom. The room had two access doors - one from an outside balcony and one interior door, which is nice is winter or bad weather. The room I stayed in had a door to a shared room and you could hear the people in the other room through it, so that wasn’t ideal. "The motel was perfect! Quiet, beautiful view of the lake and comfortable beds. The man who checked us in on our first night was warm and welcoming. The next morning, however, a woman rudely reprimanded me for accidentally and unknowingly dropping some crumbs in the main lodge. My apology was met with further rudeness. 5-stars otherwise. "

"So, this is a very old property. That said, it is very well-maintained. I am of the mindset why not stay in a room that has knotty pine walls and mid Century modern furniture than the usual cookie cutter hotel. Parking is directly in front of your room door. It is 20 feet to walk to the lake front. It is a very nice walk up and down the lakeshore. "Newberry was our “hub” to visit so many sites in eastern UP. From waterfalls to lighthouses to beaches to historic sites. And even a lingering monarch butterfly that hadn’t migrated south yet.
