Misleading and unsafe
We reconfirmed our booking for 2 apartments with kitchenettes several times.
When we called several hours before arrival they didn’t speak English and we got worried they’d lost our reservation. We had an Italian speaker call and they kept ya on hold for a long time but confirmed they had our reservation. We arrived just after dark. The street outside was dirty and unsafe looking. A non English speaking (but friendly) desk clerk directed us into a dingy parking garage where we had to pay E50 for 2 nights upfront. After that we were told in sign language and with google translation help they had oversold and gave away our 2 apartments. The clerk led our group of kids and senior citizens 20 mins walk past dumpsters/skips of garbage, along a street that smelled of human urine to a huge old building that mostly held hair salons and professional offices that were closed. They had us sleep the night in some kind of air B&B. The rooms were clean but it was not what we paid for. No kitchen. No private apartment. 3 or 4 keys needed to get out of building and it was deserted and scary. Tried to get out to buy food and couldn’t get the street door key to work so stayed inside and skipped dinner in case we couldn’t get back in. Met other tenant of building who confirmed he had same issue. Dangerous Scaffolding over the main door holding up crumbling building. Left next morning with help of Hotels.com helpful customer service.
