"What an amazing hotel, staff greeted us outside the hotel and knew who we were even though we didn't tell them what time we were arriving. They checked us into our traditional Japanese apartment complete with an outdoor onsen, but not before my girlfriend got to choose her Yakuta to wear. "Lovely views from the public baths (separate for men and women) to the lake. The decor was dated but the room was comfortable and the food was good. A beautifully presented Japanese dinner and a choice of Japanese vs. western style breakfasts. "

"Absolutely amazing stay at this Ryokan. We stayed one night as part of a 3-week Japan trip and it felt like a holiday within a holiday. Everything impeccable, friendly service and fantastic comfort. The meals were out of this world good, our room had a private Onsen which was amazing, but there's also an outdoor Onsen which you can enjoy at pretty much any time. Lovely stay!"

"The walls are paper-thin, you can hear neighbor's TV. There is a smell of mold in the room. The shared bath was not clean. The futons are very thin as well. The communal toilet slippers were disgustingly dirty, and no other slippers inside the hotel were provided (you walk on very old carpets and floors in the hotel hallways barefooted). "This was a very memorable place that I visited. It is in the rural area of japan, you can really feel the realness of the area. It's in gifu however it's definitely not a tourist trap area. The owners of the establishment reminded me of my grandmother. You are not getting a hotle with this stay more of a B&B, it definitely felt like I a was sleeping over a japanese grandma's house. They also gave grate advice on a nice local restaurant at the bottom of a locals Mt that you can hike after to see...

"Wonderful experience! A stately & historical large ryokan nested on the eastern hill slope of Gero town. My second stay at this ryokan & will continue to stay there next time I am in Gero. Very good vista of the town in the morning or evening. Very large garden & landscape, with tall tress & seasonal flower trees.or bushes.. a beautiful & varied feast for the eyes & senses if one come at different seasons... Has its own hotel museum to showcase it's checkered history & early artifacts, etc....

"This would be the best choice if you are looking for an authentic traditional Japanese accommodation. The hotel is very clean and our room comes with a balcony overlooking the Hida River.
