"Simply put - the two cave onsen at this hotel are fantastic. And indeed, there are several other onsen pools to choose from too. I was lucky to go when the sea was quite rough, and sitting at the front of the cave onsen, soaking in the hot spring while watching the waves breaking on the rocks outside was a really soul satisfying experience. The hotel itself is like a wild bubble-era project and is simply huge with plenty to explore. It was hard to take it all in - I was really absorbed just wandering around. The (seemingly) endless escalator ride up to the adjoining hotel block was a bit unique to try too. There is a helpful mini-bus and turtle themed ferry to and from the town centre ( only 10 minutes walk from station to ferry / bus) and it runs frequently. Can’t say there there were many dining options within the hotel itself, the breakfast and evening buffet are just fine plus two extra small cafe style casual restaurants on-site. No bar or coffee shop ( but you can sit in and eat snacks / coffee at the on-site Lawsons convenience store. Nothing gourmet - come for the onsen, not for dining. (though some decent small dining places in town if you wish to hop over on the ferry and back) The room was huge with a nice sea view in our case. Futon style sleeping was comfortable. Everything clean and working. All in all - lovely! I and my wife had a very memorable break here."

"The best value we’ve had in Japan by far. Bed, bath, breakfast and down to earth people. The man we assumed was the owner speaks english, is solicitous to a fault and serves a great breakfast including some of the tuna Nachikatsuura is known for. 800 yen taxi ride from JR Kiikatsuura station if you have bags or ten minute walk if you travel light. So you are in town to see the falls and temples? Spend a couple of nights here and give your money to a small local concern. "Excellent onsen hotel experience. Very comfortable room and excellent food at the restaurant. Not much to do in the town, but hotel is great. Walking distance to Kii Katsuura train station. "

"This was a very cozy stay. All amenities and documentation were well prepared and the place was clean. The host was very quick to reply on Expedia (less than 5 minutes) even at 20:00/8:00pm. If you have a family, having a rental vehicle is a must since walking is unsafe, especially in the evenings. Parts of the walk from Shimosato station and Taiji station do not have sidewalks. Access to the the Nachi area for Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route isn't the closest as you'd have to take train and bus, which can take up to an hour in total. If you have a vehicle this place is perfect!"

"A truly fantastic place to stay. I ended up getting a reservation here last minute after the accommodations I had booked were a little questionable. This place was a great decision. The check-in was smooth, and they worked with me and my choppy Japanese. The room was fantastic, spacious and had a great view. The onsen was very clean and relaxing. The dinner buffet, added on for 990¥, was truly over the top, everything I could want including the local maguro in various forms. Rented a bike for 200 to go around town for a little while, and got a lot of help transferring my luggage to Tokyo. Switching to this hotel was a great decision"
