Stone Gatehouse in Mt. Robson Park Near Jasper Nat. Park, Ab

*Please be aware that we cannot supply accommodation to sledders at this time.

The Goat's Head Gatehouse is a quaint, stone chalet designed in the image of National Park Gatehouses and is surrounded by the wilderness of Mt. Robson Park. The unique two story structure offers a sun room with floor to ceiling windows and a massive natural stone wood burning fireplace.

French doors open to a flagstone patio from which to enjoy a morning coffee or, for an evening barbecue to grill that perfect fresh caught trout. The patio overlooks a lovely flower garden with hummingbirds and butterflies and in the background, the glacial peaks of Mt. Robson, the highest mountain in the Canadian Rockies.

The post and beam structure of the Gatehouse was made from pine-beetle killed trees that were cut on the property. Stones for the exterior and interior were gathered locally from quarries and cliff sides but one stone from each of the mountain national parks of western North America were also embedded within the walls.

The wood furnishings and woodwork in the gatehouse were made locally by artisans using reclaimed and recycled wood.

The kitchen contains all the amenities needed to make complete meals and make your stay comfortable. It will be equipped with many staples and pantry items so you need not purchase bulky products to carry around e.g. coffee, tea, condiments, spices, oils, vinegars, etc.

There are two baths, one with a free standing large tub in a cedar plank spa-like bathroom---a perfect way to relax and refresh after a day of sight-seeing or hiking. A walk-in shower with stone walls for that ‘au natural’ feeling is on the main level.

The two bedrooms in the loft each contain a queen, custom-made platform bed---both bedrooms overlook the sun room from a balcony. Each bedroom opens to the upstairs bathroom.

Take a gentle hike right from the front door into pristine meadows (a short trail has been mapped out for you) or walk around the twelve acre private property to find the best view of Mt. Robson and Swift Current Creek. A natural waterfall on Swift Current Creek is 300 meters from your door. Sometimes the view is so stunning it's difficult to know which direction to point your camera!

There are many walks and hikes within 5 km of the Gatehouse. Rearguard Falls is the furthest point of travel for Pacific Salmon and they can be seen in late summer by driving a few km and taking a short walk to the waterfall. Overlander Falls and Hargreaves Canyon are scenic short hikes that are also staging areas for raft tours and high level kayaking. The Trail head for the Swift Current Creek trail starts within walking distance of the Gatehouse and leads up the Revelation Valley (Swift Current Creek) to the head wall of the 91st highest waterfall in the world (currently inaccessible except for real adventurers). The world famous Berg Lake Trail and the start of the 110 km long north boundary trail are also within 5 km.

There are restaurants and shops in the nearby towns of Valemount and Jasper---a 55 minute drive---that offer additional amenities, recreational activities and, world renowned mountain vistas.

Mt Robson retreat
Isolated retreat. Quiet solitude. A bear even drifted by and looked in the window. Short hike to a great waterfall.

A lovely remote shalet in the woods
Absoulutely marveloius stay, felt like we were in a log cabin right in the heart of nature. A very well equiped home. This is a remote spot 60 minutes drive to the main town of Jasper, so it was important to stock up on food before arrival at the property. We were fortuante to be staying with family as the open bedroom arrangement was a liitle awkward as not very private.

Quiet Retreat
Perfect place if you want an intimate getway outside of town. The home is beautiful, and relaxing. Your 30 minutes from town and hour to Jasper, but very easy drives. I would definitely stay again.

Good secluded location
Great place to stay. Very slow internet and no cell service. Helpful to completely disconnect from the grid for a short while in these tough times. Lots of great walking trails nearby.

Beautifully Designed Getaway
The Stone Gatehouse was exactly as depicted and did not disappoint! Plenty of room for two couples. Carmen & Glenn were extremely friendly and helpful. And although we never saw any signs of any wildlife on our hikes around Mt. Robson & Jasper, it was nice to have the Gatehouse's bear spray at our disposal.

Beautiful Cottage
Perfect all around! On the outside it’s a cute English cottage with nice flower boxes accenting the stone. Inside is a warm mountain cabin. Love all the windows and wood. This home is spotless, clean, well kept. The owners are nearby, respond quickly to all questions. Wonderful stay, would highly recommend!

Charming hideaway
We loved our stay at the Stone Gatehouse. It is well-appointed and comfortable. We had everything we needed for a wonderful 4-night stay. The location is perfect being near Mt. Robson and Valemount. We were able to hike, enjoy great meals and simply relax in our cozy cottage. The architecture is truly beautiful and the owners take great care in the upkeep both inside and out. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. It is a gem!

Family gathering
Home is light and airy and open, beautifully constructed. It has everything you need to prepare meals. It is a great location to access lots of hikes. We enjoyed staying on the property with relatives in another rental in the same location. Two factors to be aware of: there is not a lot of privacy and it is an hour drive to Jasper. These were not an issue for us but good to know.

Wonderful owners
We were so excited to stay at Stone Gatehouse in June but then the Alberta floods came and we were stuck in Canmore with the TransCanada Highway closed in all directions. So -- we missed out on our wonderful Jasper visit but we promise we'll be back! Can't wait to book again with Stone Gatehouse. The owners were so terrific in this once-in-100-year flood.

Fantastic
We chose this lovely place for a short getaway after our wedding. We were not disappointed! From the moment we walked in we felt completely at home, with a bottle of wine and fresh flowers on the table. We spent a bit of time exploring the area and snowshoeing into a few different areas, and nothing was as satisfying as returning to the Gatehouse to warm up and relax. It is simply beautiful, amazing area, extremely clean, I would highly recommend it to anyone considering it! We will be back!

The Perfect House in the Perfect Setting
We spent 3 wonderful days at the Goat’s Head Gatehouse. It’s kind of a magical place! My wife and I stayed with our two adult children, and it was perfect for four people. It’s even better in person than in the pictures. The architectural detail is amazing, and the setting couldn’t be better. One of the highlights were seeing a mother, black bear, and her three very young cubs. We saw them on three occasions, and even saw the cubs climb a tree. Carmen was wonderful, providing many tips throughout our stay, but not once feel intrusive. We would love the opportunity to stay here again!

June 2023 Mount Robson Gate House Stay
Excellent location for all scenic places of interest, as well as easy drive to Jasper for leisurely 6 course meals and touring Valemont. It was our first time in Mount Robson and even better than Jasper which we frequently go to. The Gate House is a place we are planning on returning for another vacation or respite soon. It is lovely, appreciated the cleanliness and seclusion even if it is just right off the road. Nature right outside our doors. First thing we noticed walking throughout the house was how well built it was. Also Enjoyed the complimentary wine and fresh flowers throughout the house. The drinking water was excellent. Thank you to our hosts!

Beautiful Winter Wonderland
I booked the Gatehouse on Family Day & my Birthday weekend on the photos I saw online. The photos are exactly as the Gatehouse is, beautiful, unique & timeless in the environment. Directions are easy and exact. Hosts quickly answer any questions or request. Absolutely every condiment and more is there for your use. Inside it is incredibly quiet with the electric heaters and no furnace. Highway noise is so minimal (wintertime so we were only inside). The fireplace heavenly & full surround windows keeps you with the beautiful outside.

Enjoyed the Quiet
Wonderful, relatively new, very clean vacation home close to the Trans-Canada hi-way in a fairly remote part of BC. Photos are accurate preview of very cool architecture, amenities, lush garden and mountain vernacular. This is a rare VRBO. Wood burning fireplace and plenty of firewood at your door. No cell service (a good thing for us) but complete with Wi-Fi and satellite TV. Great place for a couple or family looking to drop out of the rat race for a bit, do some cooking, and simply rest between a few hikes or drives. Beautiful one hour drive west of Jasper. Close to rafting if you go in the summer. Would love to have stayed forever.

Honeymoon Haven
My new husband and I stayed at the Stone Gatehouse (Goat's Head Gatehouse) for 5 nights on our Honeymoon. The home was perfect for a quiet retreat from the often touristy Banff and Jasper parks. We enjoyed cooking our favorite recipes in the fully stocked kitchen and outdoor patio grill. With the weather on the cold and rainy side, we enjoyed a fire in the large stone fireplace almost every night! The views from the home were amazing. We didn't expect to see Mt. Robson from the living room! Our stay at the house was a treat that we will always cherish as we reminisce about our honeymoon. One must for your stay at the Gatehouse: Go to Valemont and find the Swiss Bakery! It is amazing!

Absolutely perfect!
Goat's Head Gatehouse was a perfectly charming cottage filled with all the amenities to make our stay comfortable and feeling rather special. Fresh flowers on the tables, a bottle of local wine, and two glasses greeted us as we walked in the door. The construction with all the native woods and stone just took our breath away! The two unique bathrooms made us feel like we were in a spa retreat, as did the quality linens. The kitchen was totally stocked with staple items, making it easy to prepare meals with the food we brought. And as for the location, the coziness of the woods all around, plus the views of Mt. Robson, were spectacular! And with a waterfall, rushing stream, and flowering meadows a short walking trail away, we got a true taste of the beauty of the Canadian Rockies. The owner was genuinely helpful in providing directions and suggestions, along with interesting information about the Gatehouse itself. It was our favorite VRBO rental of all time, and we have been to lots, all around North America. We loved this house so much that we wished we could stay forever! Most highly recommended!

Wonderful property; unexpected luxury.
Having hiked the Berg Lake trail numerous times over 30 years, my wife and I are very familiar with local accommodations. With the passing of Murray and Ishbel and the closing of the Mt. Robson ranch, in my view, there really are no accommodations to match the setting prior to the Stone Gatehouse -- moreover, there really is nothing comparable in Jasper, including the Chateau. As others have noted, the kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms are particularly nice -- of note is the living room -- two story sun room with impressive fireplace and a view of part of Mt. Robson. The one drawback is the proximity to the highway. It was cool enough on our 5 day stay to be able to keep the windows closed on the road side. While the traffic is not constant, it can be unsettling to be in the woods and hear occasional road noise. For some, this may not be acceptable. Carmen and Glen are very accommodating. If you prefer, complete privacy, it is your choice. This is a great place.

Charming, immaculate cottage in beautiful setting
This was our first time using VRBO, so we weren't sure if this property would live up to the photos and the description, but all our expectations were surpassed. The house and grounds are absolutely beautiful, and we felt incredibly comfortable and welcome from the moment we walked through the door. Carmen and Glen thought of everything to make our stay so relaxing and enjoyable. They checked in occasionally to make sure we had everything we needed, but also gave us our privacy and space. Although the house is situated fairly close to the highway, it feels as though you are deep in the woods. If you are coming for the outdoor activities, it's in a great location - lots of local hikes, as well as lots of great options in Jasper (we ran out of time to tackle them all). If you are invested in eating out every night, keep in mind that Jasper is about 45 min away, and there are not a lot of other restaurant options nearby - however, this was not an issue for us whatsoever. The kitchen is so well stocked with staples, and after stocking up on groceries in Jasper, we were happy to relax and have dinner in such a beautiful cottage after a long day of hiking. We are already trying to figure out when we can return!

Stunning home in a spectacular setting
This is our second stay at Stone Gatehouse, and we were just as thrilled with this stay as we were with our first one (and we had better weather this time!). We've stayed in a number of lovely homes through VRBO, and this is definitely one of the most beautiful. The home is immaculate and has an extremely well-stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, and a great stone shower downstairs. Although we spent most of our time hiking, rock climbing, and rafting, the two days we spent in the house (because it was raining) were so relaxing and enjoyable, we were kind of glad that we had an excuse to stay in. There is so much to do outdoors close by – both rafting and the beautiful Berg Lake trail are each about 5 minutes away and then lots of other great activities out of Jasper (highly recommend rock climbing with Rockaboo Mountain Adventures, and canoe tour with Wild Current Outfitters). One thing to note is that Jasper is about an hour away, so restaurants are not super close by, but we loved the semi-remoteness of this place since we come from a busy city and we were very happy to stay in and cook. We also found that our hosts, Carmen and Glen, strike a great balance between being very responsive and accessible, but also giving you plenty of privacy and space. We had a couple of lovely chats with them and got some great advice about hiking trails. We can’t say enough about what a wonderful place this is to stay, and we're pretty sure at some point in the next couple of years, we’ll be back for a third stay!

Beautiful location
Charming cottage in a beautiful location. We had a great time and really enjoyed the fireplace. It was getting colder outside and the fire really heats up the place and adds so much to the ambiance of the living space. Well stocked kitchen but could use a strainer to make it easier when we cooked pasta and potatoes. As others had said you can hear the highway noise as you are right beside the highway and it is a busy highway. However with all the trees you don’t see the highway and you feel like you are in the middle of the forest with mountains peaking through. Overall fairly clean but I did have to use the broom to clear a number of dusty cobwebs from a few of the walls and doorways the first night I was there. Also you will want to bring slippers as our feet got black from the floor. One of the things that I was really looking forward to was all the windows and I really did love all the light and being able to see so much of the beautiful surroundings. When it snowed it felt like we were in a snow globe. Unfortunately, in the early morning and the later afternoon when the sun was shining directly through the windows all you could see was how cloudy and dirty they were - the rest of the day you don’t notice it. Overall was a great place to stay.
