Super location for a family holiday - 4 bedrooms, bed linen and towels provided. Unobtrusive owners next door. Secluded walled garden, with charcoal barbecue, though grass area not as big as may have been presented in photos, but easily accommodates a couple of vehicles, with room to play boules and French cricket too. Gated, and locked, entrance to ‘estate’, means you can ‘come and go’ without disturbing anyone
Very quiet during week - but beware that an adult club is quite close, but is only ‘active’ on a Friday and Saturday night - not starting until 10pm, and going on until the early morning! Again, easy to sleep through slight disco sound, and the ‘clients’ arrive/depart quietly!
An easy 40 minute car journey to the beach at Houlgate - our favourite place - and not far from a railway station to get into Caen
Pegasus Bridge half an hour, although try and make time to visit Ranville - first freed French village - with its War Cemetery, next to the church, on the way - hardly any visitors, moving, adjacent ‘peace park’ interesting, and find out about ‘D-Day Dog’!
Large LeClerc hypermarket five minutes drive from gîte - with fuel, both attended kiosk and 24hr self-service - a new Lidl too, and variety of restaurants close at hand by car - unless in August, when they ALL seem to take their holidays at the same time! Still, there’s always a MacDonald’s - near Lidl/LeClerc!
Cerza Zoo - just the other side of Lisieux, loads of space for the animals - is just 45 minutes away, and we’ll worth a full day out! White tigers, polar bears, well-set out walks to see most, if not all, of the animals - and an included train ride around the ‘safari’, as well as a short 3-D film - though only in French!
The Parc des Oiseaux - on the Caen péripherique - built on an old rubbish dump, I believe, has a maze, a miniature farm, with animals, rose garden, plenty of possible walking - all free, and parking, too - with crazy golf, and delightful cafe/restaurant if you don’t do picnics!
Easy access to all the D-Day beaches and ‘attractions’ - though beware of Overlord overload!
Great value for money
