Idyllic stay by woods and water
The photos do not do the cottage justice. Nestled in the Pyrenees, this charming property is built on the remains of an old forge. The hosts live in the old Master’s house, while the holiday cottage is separated by ancient walls and accessed by an old cobbled path. History fills the entire property, and the current owners are ensuring that the sympathetic restoration continues.
The cottage itself is three stories open plan and beautifully and tastefully decorated. There is a large master bed and sofa bed downstairs. It is perfect for couples or those with small children like ours (10 and 13, respectively). There is also good air conditioning.
The cottage has its own grounds with high rustic walls all around. Even though it was sweltering when we visited, the house and its surroundings were cool because of the large amount of tree cover and being next to a stream.
It felt very private, and we enjoyed bathing in the stream, playing croquet, cooking outdoors, and swinging in the hammock. There is lots to do in the local area, and a lot of lovely walks can be taken from the house.
The hosts are lovely, very welcoming and helpful. It was a pleasure staying here, and we wish our hosts every success for the future. We feel lucky to have booked such a gem!
