"Our goal for our trip to Japan was to hike Mount Fuji, but one of the unexpected highlights was our stay at the Kappo Ryokan Uoichi! Post-hike, we moved from Tokyo to Osaka with a stop at the Ryokan in Shimada. Two families (eight of us) stayed at Kappo Ryokan Uoichi and had a wonderful time. The building is a 150-year-old restaurant, and the stay included a shared bedroom with eight futon beds, an adjacent family room, a private bathroom, and a shared onsen. "The staff were very polite and courteous, but the facilities were old and out-dated, and we could easily hear the party that was next door to ours. They could use new bedding. The bed was hard, and the futon very thin. It was like sleeping on a rock. It was over-priced, too. Sorry, it wasn't good value for the money."
