Beautifully Restored Property with Heated Pool in Small Village

Beautifully restored, 3 bedroom 19th century property with stunning views of the Alps, private garden and pool located in the middle of the Luberon – ideal for relaxing, exploring and sport activities. Montjustin has 54 inhabitants, no through car traffic, no noise and no pollution. In the village there is a small club organizing weekly cultural events.

La Fenice is the original “mas” which has been carefully restored and tastefully decorated, with a stone fireplace and terracotta floor tiling throughout. The villa and the grounds, at the top of the village (the lane stops just past your back door) with incredible views of the Luberon national park were part of the old castle compound . The large garden opens into a panoramic view of the Luberon and the Alps. At an altitude of 600m, the nights in Montjustin are clear, beautiful and comfortable, even in the warmest summer days.

Two interconnecting stone vaults (wonderfully cool in summer) give the house a unique character. The kitchen, sited into one of them, has all modern amenities. The second stone vault is a combined living/dining room with open fireplace. Behind the kitchen there is a huge utility room.

There is ample living space. In addition to a combined living/dining room with open fireplace on the ground floor and a self-contained sitting or play area in the extension, there is a big upstairs lounge, also with Provencal fireplace, picture windows and doors on to one of the spacious terraces.

Outside, the quarter acre (1000 sq. m) garden offers panoramic views over the beautiful Luberon countryside and the Alps. It contains a 8 x 4m landscaped, heated floodlit pool treated with salt with night blanket, surrounding terraces and plentiful garden furniture.

Standard bookings are Saturday to Saturday. For other dates, please contact owner.

What an incredible gem! Private, beautiful, welcoming, peaceful and surrounded by a wonderful little town snugged into a gorgeous landscape. The home is full of everything you’ll need and the owners and caretaker are a delight to work with! Truly an exceptional spot

Beautiful location
The property was a very nice traditional French house on top of a ridge in the small village of Montjustin. The house was clean and tidy with everything we needed for the weeks stay. The pool was refreshing and lovely to dip into during the hot summer days. We played boule in the garden before walking to see the sunset over the luberon hills in the evening. The walks around the area are stunning and there are many beautiful villages, towns and sites to visit. Further away are lakes and activities (>1hr) away at the Verdon gorge and lake of Sainte-Croix. We also had a great night at the little restaurant in montjustin with live folk music. A great peaceful retreat for our party of 5 (4 adults and a 4 year old)

Magical house on a hill
If you are looking for a get-away from it all, Meir’s beautiful home on Montjustin is your place! The town is tiny - just a few residents - and you need to drive to nearby Cereste or Reillane (or longer drive to Manosque) for supplies, but once you’re stocked up, this very French and roomy home with a pool, petanque, yard, and more is the perfect spot. We loved making it our home for a week and hope to come again. One word of caution: lots of steps and hard surfaces - fine for us but wondered how a family with young children or elderly parents might fare. Another gem is the multiple dining areas - we tried them all! Breakfast on the balcony, lunch by the pool, and dinner on the front patio. House is well stocked and laundry machine and DW make living a breeze. The town is quiet - not a sound unless the local bar has a band. Happened once while we were there. Cool music and atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Unfortunately, overall a disappointment
When we arrived and met the local property manager, the pool was very dirty and the house musty smelling. We raised with the owner and he arranged a pool clean, but we were left with the feeling that the house is relatively uncared for, in terms of renting out. The local property manager really should've checked and prepared the property for our arrival, to make sure it was spick and span for our arrival. The pool by the way, collects insects and debris from nearby bushes very quickly, so once cleaned, it needs cleaning again within 15-20m minutes. This amount of cleaning really should be catered for by the owner, or at least, made very clear on the property description, so prospective renters are forewarned. The kitchen is well stocked but is grubby in places and touch points generally are a bit sticky with grime. The interior is dated generally, and whilst the fabric of the building could be described as nicely restored, the accommodation, pool and pool area are dated and tired. Also, the garden backs onto the local village Marie and square, where events happen most evenings. We found these pleasant, and we joined in on some, but the noise and lateness of hour could be considered intrusive for others. Monjustin itself is beautiful with amazing views of the Luberon and instant access to PR and GR routes. We enjoyed, as we're walkers. To sum up, we felt the rent was expensive and definitely, the description should be more clear about the issues, all mentioned above.

MontJustin and La Fenice, everything we wanted and much, much more!!
Montjustin is located in a beautiful little village atop a scenic plateau. There are only 56 inhabitants living in the picturesque village in the heart of the Luberon. You can literally walk out the front door of La Fenice and be at one of the many trails that cross through MontJustin. This is the ideal location for those that want peace and quiet after a long day traversing the French countryside. This wonderfully spacious villa has all the modern comforts you would find at home. The ground floor has a nice dining area and a well appointed kitchen. The owners have gone to great lengths to outfit the kitchen with everything you might need. The open space living room comes well furnished with comfortable furniture and a modern entertainment system. There are two very large windows and a fantastic glass door that you can open to walk out onto the large deck/porch that faces west and is wonderful for sipping a Rhone valley wine and watching the sun go down over the spectacular countryside! The master bedroom with an ensuite bathroom has a “very” comfortable queen bed, spacious dresser, large wardrobe and two large windows that can be opened. When you first walk through the gate into La Fenice, you really don’t notice the true beauty of this property. It’s after you walk up towards the beautiful patio that you start to see what a great choice you have made in choosing your villa. The smooth stone patio has a magnificent pool in the center of it and is a great place for lounging and catching the afternoon sun. It is extremely spacious and has a lot of shrubbery surrounding it – giving the patio incredible privacy. Around the corner from the pool, nestled at the edge of the property you will find a Boules court. Take a walk to what I will call the back part of the property. From here you will see a majestic view of the Luberon valley and wonderful views of the French/Swiss Alps – truly breathtaking!! My wife and I did months of research before we ended up choosing La Fenice. It was in no small part due to the wonderful owner of the property – Meir! From the moment I contacted Meir I felt extremely comfortable and knew I was in good hands. I must have sent him 10-15 emails of questions – even before we booked his villa. All were answered promptly and courteously. Meir was a great source of information for helping us with everything from driving tips, to finding a quiet restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. Any question we asked was answered!!

Zeer vriendelijke eigenaar. Wij komen hier graag terug!

Truly special!
This is an absolutely beautiful property in a really special place. My husband and I and a friend spent a blissful week at La Fenice, in the tiny hilltop village of Montjustin and we wish we could have stayed longer. The house is rustic and charming and very well-equipped for guests. It's set in a large property with a beautiful pool and plenty of areas to sit and soak up or avoid the sun at all times of the day. The reservation, check-in and check-out processes could not have been easier (despite the fact that none of us speak French) and we felt like welcome guests from the minute we sent the reservation request. We would all love to return to La Fenice!

Excellent vacation 24 July - 1 August
We have just returned home after a great vacation at the Montjustin Fenice villa . The villa was very well equipped and clean, the swimming pool and the garden was great and the surroundings were breathtaking. Great early morning and evening walks through amazing local trails. The village is very quiet and relaxing. The location, in the middle of the Luberon area is very good - mostly short drives (1.5-2 hours drive at the most) to the great attractions of PROVENCE.

Perfect for a family holiday
The house was more than big enough for our family (6 persons), clean and well - maintained. The equipment was very good and like listed in the description. The manager showed us around, gave us a lot of tips and invited us to some village activities ( we took part in a party and made our own pizza). The village is a quiet place with beautiful views, a perfect place to relaxe, but also a good starting - point for trips. We enjoyed the pool and the well equiped kitchen and the garden. It was a great week and we would recommend this property for families and small groups.

Great place to get away from stress
It was our third stay (previously in 2005 & 2016) and we again loved the beautiful setting, the relaxing pool and comfortable accommodation. Only had a week this time but would gladly stay longer next time - the kids are adults now but we had joy in this short break and the memories of the holiday here before.

Beautiful house in stunning countryside.
The house is in a small village on top of the hill which affords spectacular views including the Alps! Meir ( the owner) and Thomas ( the property manager) were always available for help if required. We were met at the house by Thomas who showed us around and made sure that we had everything we needed. The house was spotlessly clean and beds very comfortable. We could not have asked for more. Local residents of the village were very friendly and whilst we did not manage to eat at the local bar/restaurant, due to a festival in a neighbouring town, it seemed very popular. Plenty of information at the house, great walking trails, cycle paths, and beautiful towns and villages to visit. Or just stay relaxing by the pool - we did it all! We would definitely recommend staying at La Fenice - there were 6 adults in our party and there was plenty of space for all of us. Thank you Meir and Thomas for making our holiday special!

Great villa, great location
We spent a couple of weeks at the La Fenice villa, which we found on the web. Based on the reviews we had high expectations, which were exceeded by the reality. Wonderful, old restored house, with modern amenities, comfortable furniture, excellent beds, very well appointed kitchen, clean, well maintained property, including the pool. Even that it was the second half of October, the weather was great. Sunny and warm during the day, cool but not cold in the evenings. We took advantage of the small bistro next door, for a nice ( and cheap ) meal and drinks and enjoyed there a lively evening of French and gipsy music. Also, we made explored the numerous attractions in the Luberon, some we found out about in the “house book”. And of course we went to the famous Provence markets - the biggest and most traditional is less than half an hour away. The village is small and quaint, no commerce but the bistro which is open on weekends. We bought our baguettes and croissants in a village 15’ away, where there are 2 boulangeries, a very decent supermarket and other shops. As we speak some French, we could communicate with the locals, who were very friendly. In summary, we plan to come back!

Amazing stay!
I can't say enough about this villa. It was wonderful. The villa is situated atop a mountain with amazing views of the Luberon valley. The house was perfect for our stay. It was equipped with everything we could possible need. The house is spacious and private. The surrounding area is very peaceful. There are some great walking trails. Cereste is minutes away by car and has some very good restaurants. We spent Monday morning at the Forcalquier Market which is about one half hour away. We were met by Lauren who was very helpful and the owner Meir was always available by e-mail. I would definitely go back!

A best holiday in the heart of Provence
The house is located in a the peaceful village of Montjustin, with stunning views all around. Location is excellent for visiting the highly recommended Provence villages within no more then 0.5-1.5 hours beautiful scenery drives. We loved the house, the garden, the swimming pool. The house is best equipped for a convenient holiday. This time of the year is recommended for it's beautiful nature and agriculture views- green of the forests with the red carpets of the poppies, the yellow color of the acacia, the beginning of the Lavender blossoming and many more spring colors all over.

La Fenice (the Phoenix) under Luberon’s sky
La Fenice (the Phoenix) under Luberon’s sky We spent a magical week in 2nd week of September at Villa Le Fenice, maybe the most relaxing vacation we ever had. Fresh air during daylight and magnificent stars at night. La Fenice is a private, beautifully restored, old stone wall house, in Montjustin, a quiet and tiny village in Luberon. The terracotta floor, the spacious bedrooms, the tastefully decorated living room and the very well equipped kitchen were clean and well maintained. The propriety has a beautiful garden, a private pool with summer kitchen area. The nights are dark as there is no outside electricity; the only light comes from the moon and the stars. The villa is located on top of a hill and the surrounding views are stunning. As we are into walking, we explored the village during the daylight and watched the incredible sky at nights. The "book of the house", a detailed operating manual prepared by the owner, explains everything you need to know about the house and the neighborhood. Location is great, 8 Kilometers from the nearest boulangerie, to start your morning with café au lait and croissant in Cereste, and only 30 to 60 minutes from renowned attractions. The "book of the house" offers fantastic recommendations for dinning and attractions. I'd recommend La Fenice to everyone, for relaxing, for romance, for healing for recovery, and for fun…

Stunning, peaceful getaway, great base to explore
We spent 10 days in Monjustin with our toddler. The house is big and comfortable, with a great pool, huge garden with a boules court and lots of outdoor areas for meals. There's a big kitchen with everything you need to cook family meals. It's quiet with a breathtaking view of the mountains and valleys. We used it as a base for excursions - there are so many lovely places within a half hour ride, and some days we stayed put and were perfectly happy at the pool and in the garden. We can't wait to go back next year.

Excellent stay in Montjustin
We spent an excellent vacation in Montjustin. The house was set on the hilltop of a quaint tiny village, a perfect setting to indulge yourself in la Provence. Everyday we went for an excursion, either to the lavender fields in the plateau de Valensole or des Claparèdes, or just to nearby villages (Gordes, Roussillon, Bonnieux...). In the afternoon we would often relax by the pool before setting off to diner in the neighboring villages. The restaurant La pastorale in Cereste was clearly our favorite but l'école buissonnière just across the house was very good and very convenient. Meir Yanive made us feel very welcomed and cared about making our vacation as enjoyable as possible. There were many guides and flyers for us to consult in the house to help us discover this beautiful region. He also sent us emails about events that were happening in the surrounding villages during our stay. I recommend this place without hesitation.

Outstanding home; relaxing, beautiful setting
Every part of this house and its surroundings provided us with moments both peaceful and memorable. We had an amazing stay here on our first visit to Provence, with our three kids in tow. The location was perfect for exploring the countryside, the outdoor markets, and patisseries of Cereste, and also close enough to visit Rousillon, Gordes, and Chateneuf du Pape. But there were also days where we simply stayed put, hiking the trails, relaxing in the pool, gazing at the stunning views, enjoying a chance encounter with a ranging chicken. A really wonderful place to not only unwind but to soak in some truly amazing Provence culture. Meir was a fabulous host, with info for us on anything we could have possibly needed, and Ans was an incredible resource for us as well. We would absolutely love to return.
