Domaine de Pouroutounat has been lovingly restored to create a perfect holiday location from what was originally three separate but attached buildings. The six-bedroom Farmhouse is spacious and traditional and is attached to the delightful three bedroom Grange Pierre. Tastefully furnished and equipped, this luxury property can sleep up to 11, with space for cots if required, in addition. The large heated swimming pool (10m x 5m) is always a big hit with any group. Next to the pool there is a large pool-house which can seat 16-plus for dinner, and contains two fridges for chilling those essential day-time or evening drinks. The pool-house also has a large charcoal barbeque. The pool lies within large and lush grounds - beautiful old trees and spacious lawns surround the property. In all, there are seven acres of grounds, with a local farmer farming the 3 acre field.
The house is beautifully appointed with highly quality furniture and furnishings - antique pieces mix with more recent additions, but is child-friendly - no need to feel that the kids can't enjoy themselves for fear of damaging something.
The kitchen is well appointed with a full range of equipment and utensils to keep the domestic chef happy! A large capacity range cooker is ideally suited to catering for larger groups of guests.
There is a large private terrace adjacent to the kitchen, with a large gas bbq and tables that can seat up to 16. There are large umbrellas making it perfect for a relaxing breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Nearby, Mirepoix is a town of 3,500 people, but is bursting with activity throughout the summer, including cultural festivals and fete's. It has a large number of restaurants and bars - more than most people could possibly visit during a two-week holiday! It also has a range of small and unique shops and a number of antique shops and flea markets - something for everyone.
Slightly further afield is Carcassonne, the world famous Unesco World Heritage site, founded in Medieval times and a centre for Cathar history. Numerous other Cathar castles dot the landscape and lead to the Pyrenees to the south. Vineyards abound within 20 minutes of Pouroutounat, and only a few minutes walk away is one branch of the famous and ancient Chemin de St Jacques - the pilgrims way to Santiago de Compostella on the NW coast of Spain.
Pouroutounat is a fabulous location for large family groups or reunions, groups of friends or common-interest groups (walkers, cyclists, nature lovers). You will go away feeling relaxed or re-energised - the choice is yours entirely.
