Wonderful, unique food arrangement
We picked Dar al Mandar, both because of the nice interior, but also the unique experience of having a cook. Of our 7 nights there, our gracious cook Wafa cooked dinner 6 nights, based on a discussion the day before of what to prepare. We usually went with the default 7 PM time. We didn't have to worry about transit time to/from a restaurant, uncertain quality or price, or slow service. Each night we'd have mint tea, fresh bread, several appetizer/entrees, a great Moroccan main, and a dessert. What's more, we could watch and learn how to make them -- built-in cooking classes! Of course she'd make breakfast each day but with less variation. We very much enjoyed this arrangement (note there is a daily charge for the food). Since we had another 8 days in Morocco after Marrakech, we didn't worry what we might be missing at restaurants.
Mustapha was immensely helpful in getting oriented, learning about culture and language, and providing any guidance we needed. The Dar itself is beautifully decorated and comfortable. While the Dar is on the north of the Medina, it's close enough to walk to the center and to a taxi when you need to go all the way to the other side or outside of the medina. The many cats in the streets were always amusing, too.
