Upon arrival, we found that the house had not been appropriately cleaned. We did contact the owners and were offered an extra night of stay, but we unfortunately could not take them up on that offer and did not hear back from them. There were half filled cups on the porch, used water bottles in one of the rooms, a couple of dead bugs on some linens, and the garbage was overflowing in the metal shed in the backyard. When we opened some of the cabinets in the kitchen, we found mouse droppings in with the dishes and by the toaster.
In addition to the cleanliness issues, there were bears and porcupines that visited daily to the property. They have a beautiful deck, but it wasn’t safe to use that space or to grill.
We arrived after check-in on the first night and upon getting out of the car, hoards of mosquitos came out of the grass and clung to our clothes as we were trying to get our luggage into the house. Bugs seem to be an issue in general. We would often find ourselves waking up to find spiders or ants crawling on us in the night. The deck and gutters had hornets everywhere.
The weather was quite warm and the downstairs common areas stayed cool, however, all of the bedrooms were exceedingly hot even while running the air conditioner all day. Some of the rooms have no curtains, so the heat coming in when the sun is up early warms the place quickly.
Due to the warmer water in June, there were jellyfish everywhere. It made beach play exceedingly difficult for the kids.
