I moved to madison in 1992 and lived there for 9 years. I always wanted to stay at the Hotel Ruby Marie. It just never happened. Finally it worked out during my latest visit. My sister and I wanted to experience the Essen Haus at least one more time. I hope to be able to stay again sometime. It was beautiful!

classic hotel property that has been updated to comply with modern sensibilities. i highly recommend this hotel for stays for concerts at the Slyvee and High Noon Saloon
Interesting place to stay. Obviously a property that is focused on its place in history. If you like a property with a few challenges based on its historic significance, this place is great. If you’re looking for the chain hotel experience, pick someplace else.
This hotel is charming and comfortable! It was a perfect weekend stay with great accommodations. The hotel is joined with a breakfast cafe and a night pub, so there’s always something to do! The gas fireplace in the room really elevated the comfort! The staff is very friendly and helpful. The building has been well kept and holds a lot of history and was fun to explore! Downtown Madison was only a 12 minute walk.
Perfect location for walking into central capital area. Funky little bar and dining. If you want a soulful experience—ruby marie is for you. If you want sterile & predictable, go elsewhere. Otherwise, it was safe, comfortable, curious, and offered the right scale of experience.
Very good, chill vibe. The people were very nice, and the place was gorgeous. It felt a lot more homey than other hotels I've stayed in, and was well decorated!
We loved the vintage, historical aspect. Ourr room was cozy, clean and comfortable. It was convenient to restaurants, the lakes and shopping. Staff was friendly and accommodating.

Love the ambiance. Staff very friendly. Could use a second chair to sit in, in Room 25.
Weather became very cold during our stay, and could not get room to heat up past 63 degrees. Also shower not hot at all. Brrr!
Beautiful room and bathtub, nice bed and spacious. Loved the vintage look and setting in the heart of the city. We went to a concert at the Sylvee which was only 0.3 miles away. Loved that we could walk and that there were restaurants and bars nearby.
The Victorian decor was to be loved. We enjoyed the jetted tub and the authentic pull to flush johns. The beakfast was great, especially the crispy bacon. Housekeeping was appreciated with new towels everyday. The location near downtown was strategical however if trains bother you, you shoud be forewarned.
It needs updating in wallpaper, rugs and bedding. It can be an old world hotel with charm if interior designers got involved.
Right now, It’s a spooky accommodation.
