I stayed here with 4 families and 19 total people and this was a great property. The pavilion area and church space were great for us all to sit and catch up.
We enjoyed all the spacess, especially the pavillion. It was nice to gather but also gave us space to spread out. We did have issues with fruit flies and the towl holder in tye bathroom inside closest to the kitchen came off the wall the first time someone used the towel.
We came for a church youth retreat. The property was amazing! We used the chapel in the church building for our group meetings. It wasn’t pictured, so it was a nice surprise. There is a trail behind the cabins that goes a little way into the property. The house internet seemed to work better than the WiFi at the church. We took kayaks out on the James River close by. We loved our stay!!
The check in was easy and we had such a good time! It was 13 folks who all came together to pray. Although we didn’t get to enjoy the fire pit, it was well stocked! The cabin beds were so comfy and the walk to the restrooms was not long at all. Kitchens were both small but the owner had told us beforehand! The one in the house offered a bar that we all gathered around many times!
Everyone liked the beds, which is hard to accomplish!
Thank you so much for your awesome hospitality!!
Melanie is fantastic and responded very quickly when needed. She has flawless.customer service.
The rooms were great and all beds were comfortable. We loved the individual themes of the rooms.
However, the listing was a little misleading. There are only 4 showers to the 10 bedrooms . Two of which folks in the cabins needed to walk across a cemetary to access. We even saw what looked like a fairly recent grave. That freaked me and my family out. This put a pal on my plans as no one was willing to sit outside during the day, much less at night. It just felt so disrespectful to be happy in that environment. Even when you went there for a happy occasion. Also, the grass was unkempt. Nothing was mowed and it felt like nature was progressively taking back the land. If you do not mind outside bathrooms, raw nature and bugs, or rooming on the same facility as a cemetery, you'll be ok here.
We had originally rented this property to celebrate my mom‘s 80th birthday, unfortunately much to all our heartbreak my mom was diagnosed with tumors in her brain and this became a memorial for my mom. The property was perfect and the camp fire site became a great place for sharing stories about my mom and also singing songs and kind of distracting ourselves from the gravity of what the event had become. I would strongly recommend this place to anyone for such an event. The owner was extremely accommodating and was fantastic
The property was everything described and more. We had a family reunion here and it was perfect. Plenty of space for cooking and eating. Outside gives you room for sitting by the firepits, at the picnic table and room for playing and games.
We had close to twenty family members stayed in the house, church and cabins and they were all very happy with the accommodations. Appealing and comfortable.
Melanie was great with information and answering questions.
We recommend this place highly and hope your stay is as fun and memorable as our.
Amazing Property, with many options for our group.
Melanie was amazing at responding all my questions, the compound work great for our group and activities, we had different lodging options, the retreat is private we are very grateful we stayed and hope to be back again, everything is as described!
It is a lovely place. Very Flexible for both spending time together and separately. Well supplied with extras: a grill, outdoor griddle, outdoor kitchen, beautiful pavillon with outdoor kitchen.
We enjoyed using the fire pit. The cabins are very charming. Each one has a keurig and a small fridge. We really hope to return again.
We loved our stay at the Church Camp. Upon our arrival, the lights in the pavilion were lit and it made us feel welcomed. The house is a short walk from the church, and that is where we had our meals, as there were 17 of us staying. The kitchen is well stocked for the most part and they provided paper towels, soap, shampoo and tide. So that was a plus. There were storage containers for left overs (THAT's A PLUS!) The only thing, there was not any pantry storage available, and with 17 of us eating for a week, we had to move around some items on the book shelf in the dining hall to keep our dry goods, but we made do.
Melanie was quick to respond to our questions and text.
This was an awesome place and we highly recommend it.
