Hosts were very helpful and informative, a genuinely lovely couple. Stayed in the area due to a family wedding. Car rental essential especially to take advantage of the markets, bakeries and restaurants in the area and ease of travel from airport. Michael was always on hand with recommendations.
Quite simply the most beautiful house I've ever stayed in during my 33 years of visiting the Dordogne. It's like something from a novel in terms of serenity and decor.
Michael and Sheila were perfect hosts and very generous.
If I could give it 6 stars, I would.

A Perfect Escape
We've just arrived home from a relaxing week in this beautiful property. We were 2 families with 4 adults and 4 children and the house was more than spacious enough. There are also several outdoor sitting areas to allow for peace and quiet if you need it. It is located in beautiful french countryside with beautiful towns and villages within an easy drive. The property is stunning and the owners have provided so many bits and pieces to make for an easy holiday. It is so helpful not to have to go out and buy washing liquid, washing powder, dishwasher tablets, salt, pepper, foil, etc etc especially when you are only staying for a week! The owners Michael and Sheila were very friendly and helpful in providing details of where to visit and where to eat nearby. We loved Aubeterre and enjoyed a day at Lac Jemaye. We came away feeling that we had experienced a small piece of real France despite a too short stay and we wouldn't hesitate in recommending a stay here.
We had an amazing holiday at La Roussie – it was absolutely perfect!
The house has been beautifully renovated over many years and is incredibly well furnished and equipped. Sheila and Michael had thought of everything including a beautiful pool, plenty of shade for those who needed it and several places to eat, depending on the time of day. We particularly liked breakfast on the patio with the lovely views, lazing with a book under the Bali hut and enjoying a glass of wine in the shade by the pool…
We visited lots of interesting places including Brantome (canoeing), Perigeaux (shopping), Bourdeilles (architecture and castle), Aubeterre (underground church) and Bordeaux.
Sheila and Michael were the perfect hosts, so kind and thoughtful. They also helped organise a caterer (Louise) to cook a fabulous birthday meal one evening and Michael was on hand to provide expert wine advice!
Thank you again for letting us spend time in La Roussie – we will definitely return.
How we love a road trip through France, especially with a villa holiday at the end of it. This one had been planned for about 3 months, so plenty of time to build the anticipation. La Roussie ticked all of the boxes: pool, barbecue, authentic French architecture and attractive decor, without be too ‘rustic’. Michael and Sheila are great hosts and were on hand to make our arrival and access easy, with a warm and friendly welcome. The villa has a very well equipped kitchen, leading out to an al fresco dining area by the pool. We liked that there were several outside dining spaces, including a covered one for any weather. There is also a sizeable but cozy dining table in the kitchen if the weather is too inclement. Michael and Sheila live in the neighbouring property so were on hand if we needed anything but the villa and pool were otherwise private and secluded enough that we were able to enjoy our own space. The layout of the bedrooms would probably best suit two couples with children but we were spoilt just the two of us.
Be prepared to drive anywhere for supplies or dining out, as there is not much in Lusignac itself but most neighbouring towns were within 10 mins and had pretty much everything. Lusignac does have a small cafe/restaurant but we never found it open. Do follow Michael and Sheila’s recommendations (on anything), they always turned out to be excellent!! We fell in love with the little artisan Boulangerie in Bertric-Burée, a 5 min drive away. All french Boulangeries are good but this was something else. Do like the french and hit it up every morning for croissants and your daily baguette.
We loved our stay at la Roussie and cannot wait to return.
Thank you for giving us such wonderful memories.

Belle maison
La Roussie is a beautiful property in a lovely rural setting. The house is lovely, the garden beautiful and a fabulous pool.
The hosts where extremely welcoming, and gave us lots of great local tips.
Perfect base to discover a new part of france
Thank you Sheila & Michael, we all had a great stay in your beautiful farmhouse - it is so well designed and equipped, you've thought of everything. It was perfectly located for lots of walking and cycling through rural France and it was handy to have La Licorne (the small bar/restaurant) withing walking distance. We were amazed how much was going on in this seemingly sleepy corner of France - we enjoyed a performance of The Marriage of Figaro, a violin duet in the church, an exhibition from a local artist and more. We definitely hope to return!
I don't think the pictures of this property really do it justice. As a group of six adults we found this property to be absolutely charming. Full of French rustic character the property was large enough to allow each their own space if they needed it. The large kitchen had more than enough utensils, plates, cutlery etc and a large American style fridge freezer is just what was needed (the separate beer fridge is a good addition as well!) Plenty of outdoor eating areas - breakfast on the terrace - lunch under the vines and evening meal by the pool. Bedrooms are large and the beds comfortable so again no complaints there. The location is very, very rural and you are more likely to be woken by a bird signing rather than a car going past. For the athletes who may visit there is a circular 5k run that can be done with a couple of hills to overcome. Nearest large supermarket is in Riberac, about a 10-15 minute drive away although there is a small Spar in the next village. The Friday market in Riberac is really good and worth a visit as are a number of other local towns and villages. All in all a really enjoyable stay in an excellent property. We were well looked after by Shelia and Michael who were generous in their advices. Thank you.

A wonderful villa in beautiful surroundings
This is our second stay here and it was just as beautiful as we remembered it the fist time. The outside area by the pool now has the addition of a covered dining area and we were able to eat outside every day which was lovely.
Sheila and Michael had thought of everything to make our stay relaxing and enjoyable and were on hand to offer advice on places to visit and eat. The freshly picked figs from the garden were a lovely touch too.
The villa itself was very spacious and clean with every room beautifully decorated and furnished. The pool was immaculate and used every day even though the weather was a little mixed. I cannot put into words how wonderful this place is. We have made even more wonderful memories and we hope to be back to make even more.
Thank you Sheila and Michael!

Wow!
Five stars isn't enough! We have just had the most amazing week in this stunning French farmhouse. It doesn't come more traditionally French than this! The house is incredible, and the weather we had meant that we were able to make good use the immaculately maintained pool.
As a large group (there were 9 of us, from aged 7 to 70) the many seating areas were made use of and the kids loved riding the bikes and playing with the games. The owners, Sheila and Michael really have thought of everything you might want to make your holiday special. They are on hand to give you all the local info and places to visit, but also allow you your privacy, they really were the perfect hosts. The basket of figs straight from the tree show how much they think of their guests.
In terms of things to do, the area provides you with enough to do without having to drive for hours, so leaves you the time to relax at the villa and by the pool. Aubeterre is a must, as is the Chateau de Bourdeilles, Brantôme, and the Wednesday morning market in Perigueux. The bar in the village is definitely worth a visit for a drink, only a scenic 10 minute walk, and entertainment was provided on Friday night. Canoeing on the Dronne at Aubeterre and Ribérac was also really enjoyable for those of us who were feeling a but more adventurous!
We would recommend this property to anyone, it really allows you to immerse yourself in French culture, the drive out in the morning to get the baguettes and croissants etc.
Thank you again, we really hope to return soon!

Amazing house and beautiful area
We visited this amazing house in July 2015 having also spent a couple of weeks there in September 2014. It's a very special place for us and we're already beginning to work out when we can return in 2016!
The house itself is beautiful. Very well equipped - particularly, if like us, you like cooking. The bedrooms are very comfortable and there are several bathrooms. It's a large house and could accommodate 8 or so people without feeling like you're stepping on each other’s toes. The pool is lovely and there is a fantastic Bali bed for lazy afternoons in the shade.
The house is a short stroll to the hamlet / village where there is a bar. The food is OK but the views and wine make up for it. The house is well positioned and trips to Périgueux or Bordeaux are easy enough.
The owners, Michael and Sheila, are wonderful people who strike the perfect balance between being on hand when needed but absolutely respecting visitors' privacy. They were very accommodating with our four year old who spent many an hour chatting to Michael.
If you're considering the Dordogne and looking for an amazing house in a beautiful area, you will find no better than this. We have holidayed in France for the past ten years and this is the very best!

A little piece of heaven
We spent a wonderful month at La Roussie with our dearest and closest northern hemisphere friends and family. As Brits who live in Australia we wanted to avoid the usual tour around the UK to see everyone, and instead decided to hire this beautiful house in the Dordogne and get everyone to come to us. A wonderful decision! Firstly the house is not only beautiful and has a lovely french feel (it felt like we were staying at a friends house), but it's perfect for entertaining. We had many wonderful lunches and dinners at the indoor outdoor farmhouse tables. The pool is stunning and the bali house a perfect place to shelter if it's too sunny or the rain clouds appear. Michael and Sheila are charming hosts, who, without being intrusive shared lots of wonderful local knowledge with us which really made our stay (where to find the best croissant, bread - wonderful home made ice cream, and when local markets are on etc.) This house really is a little piece of heaven and the countryside and little villages around are so pretty. Lusignac and the surrounding area really is 'chocolate box france', just stunning. We couldn't recommend this house highly enough and will definitely be back.

Tranquility Base
The pictures do not do the place justice. The House and grounds are much more spacious than they appear in the pictures. The owners met us on arrival and even provided some snacks and drinks in case we had arrived unprepared. We met them as strangers and left as friends. They have an uncanny ability to appear when needed and fade when not. The pool is Michael's pride and joy and (having had one myself) is immaculately maintained. Our group consisted of my wife and I and our son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren (4 & 2 yr old girls). The middle weekend we were joined by our daughter and son-in-law. The house swallowed us up easily and in comfort. As the posting says, "a car is essential", but only because you are in rural France and villages are 10 - 15k apart. The local bar in Lusignac opens from 7pm till midnight, so leisurely lunches in the local bistro's and cafe's were not on, but we enjoyed many self-catered picnics with supplies from nearby Vertiellac. Although the price may seem a little high, when you consider it on a per person per night basis, it is very reasonable.
The locality is rich in wonders:- the church carved out of a cliff at Aubuterre, the nearby freshwater lakeside beach, the stunning town at Brantome, the pub in Vertiellac with its uncompromising English speaking owner (she won't speak French to anyone!). We loved it!!
