great location
the hotel is very comfortable with large and clean room. although it's on the main road the rooms are not noisy. buckingham palace and victoria station are 2 minutes walk from the hotel

Great Location, Super Clean, and Best Price! Everyone was very helpful. We arrived early before check-in, and although at arrival our room was not available, they were quick in response to get it ready for us within an hour... still hours before check-in time! Really great place to stay if you have 4 or more traveling with you... This hotel offers to sleep 4 in a room(family deluxe)... that's not common in England. Therefore, it cut our hotel cost in HALF... it was a BIG difference!

Thistle Westminster - location, location, location
I recently stayed for 1 night, mid-week, in the Thistle Westminster while I was London for a conference. The hotel was easy to find from Victoria tube station and close in proximity to my meeting venue too, which was why I chose it. The staff was efficient and friendly enough and the room did exactly what it said on the tin. It was basic and could have done with some updating, especially the bathroom, but was clean and comfortable enough for 1 night. PROs: location, price CONs: traffic noise, basic & dated decor

1 night only - never again!
Hotel was not 4 Star, 3 Star at best, the room was freezing, I reported it to reception, they sent up a portable heater, the room did eventually heat up. I went for breakfast in the morning, £16.95, I asked for it to be charged to my room and I would pay on check-out i was asked to pay there and then, due to time costraints and that I had a few quid on me I went round the corner, full english £4.95. In general a poor hotel would not stay here again.

Great location, okay hotel
The hotel was clean, rooms were in good condition. The location was excellent, around the corner from Victoria tube station and in walking distance of many great attractions. Only real criticism was that in our twin room the TV was on the desk which was level with your head when you lay down so there was no way to watch TV in bed.

the benefit of being downtown without the huge price tag... 2 blocks from Buckingham Palace and close to one of the main stops for all of the big bus tours... easy to get around! The staff seemed a little surprised when asked for assistance (or recommendations of where to eat), which was a bit odd, but overall a great experience

Thistle Westminster - location is key
My two children and I stayed at this hotel for one night to enable us to take in the central London sights and to be close to shopping and the parks. For this, the hotel is perfect. It is an older hotel, rather tired and showing its age, so dont expect luxury or the most up to date decor. The room was clean and fine for one night, but would have been cramped for more with next to no space to unpack or spread out. We did not try breakfast, but the bar was not the most hospitable place and the barman could do with a crash course in English - this is London after all !

Definitely pleased with hotel!
Great location, clean hotel, nice breakfast! We stayed for the weekend and it was close to Buckingham Palace so easy to walk to all of the tourist sites. We also traveled with a 2 month old and they were very accomodating.

Fire alarm going off during the night with no explanation from staff the following day. Started to go to street level but alarm stopped assumed it was false alarm but no one to verify this! Rest of the nights sleep was a bit unsettling. Did not find staff over helpful. Breakfast meal was far too expensive. Beds were comfortable but lack of space in room. I think there must be a shortage of toilet rolls in this hotel not much when we arrived refilled on third day.

The hotel is situated in an excellent location. It takes about 5 mins. to walk to Buckingham Palace. There are numerous resturants around the area including one in the hotel. Good location to catch tour buses and the underground transportation. Hotel staff was very helpful and pleasant.

Covenient location
Have read reviews about hotel from other travel sites prior to booking. Had noted pertinent negatives then but with a very convenient location and reasonable cost, booked hotel anyway. It is reasonable place to stay in for its cost. Do not anticipate more star service and lofty expectations but personable attitude of staff makes it satisfactory place.

Quiet, family elegance
This hotel is not flashy. It is geared towards business and family travellers. That said, this hotel was spotless, the staff were absolutely wonderful and helpful and it is very quiet although it is in the centre of the action and only 2 blocks from Victoria Station. The breakfast was comprehensive and was well done. The hotel was full when we checked but there was a calm, efficient air about the lobby. Many travellors relaxed in the several different seating areas and it felt welcome there. I'm glad we chose this hotel. I recommended it to other participants on our tours and will do so to others. I will use this hotel again when I go to London. It is convienient, good value and the staff are very approachable. The concierge rocks!

A good three star hotel at best
If I were giving out stars I’d struggle to give this hotel the four claimed. A good three at best, mainly down to the great location and the efficient and friendly reception staff. Fantastic location, almost opposite Buckingham Palace and a gentle 20-30 minute stroll to either Trafalgar Square and the shopping or to the Big Ben/London Eye area. All staff on reception were very pleasant and easy to deal with. Although only using the concierge once he was extremely friendly and obviously knowledgeable. Room was a decent size with two double beds and a sofa bed. Plenty of storage, a desk, a chair and a TV. Bathroom was also a good size with bath and shower. Beds were VERY firm. This may suit some people but I woke each morning with a stiff shoulder. Although the room was at the front of the hotel overlooking a busy road, the double glazing prevented the noise from being an issue and getting to sleep was easy (no doubt partly due to being on the go for 12-13 hours a day!). As mentioned in other reviews, the hotel is quite ugly from the outside and the rooms and corridors could do with a facelift but the reception area is much better being clean, airy and modern. Only ate once in the hotel. Breakfast on our first morning. At £15.99 per head it was extremely overpriced for what was offered. A small continental selection of mostly very dry pastries and a couple of melon choices, two fruit juices, a few cereals were available and a typical full English buffet. Unfortunately the hot food was brought out in such small quantities that you found yourself queuing for some bacon then having to queue again for an egg etc. (We found a very nice Garfunkels just off Trafalgar Square which provided a much better breakfast for less than half the price).

Perfect location and great service
Perfect location, close (mostly walking distance or not more than a few minutes by bus) to all the city points of interest, including palaces, parks, monuments, museums, etc. Perfect transportation to virtually any part of the city, including the airport. Convenient access to shopping centers and other stores - you can easily walk (15 minutes) even to the legendary Harrod's. The hotel is clean and convenient with interesting interior and big rooms. Internet is not free, but you can buy a card or order on-line.

The hotel was decent. A few issues I has was that when we got our room the bathtub was dirty. Also, room service, which they say is 24 hours really is not. After a specific time they stopped serving hot food. The room was a good size and it had air conditioning.

great location for touring, not for nightlife
being only blocks from Victoria station made it very convenient getting there from Heathrow and also for jumping on the tube and being anywhere in the city. Since it's a big station there are plenty of restaurants and even a few pubs nearby but the problem was that they all closed so early, like stopped serving food at (the latest) 10pm and stopped serving drinks around 1130 or midnight. This can be problematic when you have been sightseeing all day and then see a show or something and then still need dinner. As a plus though, there are a few theatres (WICKED!) about 3 blocks from the hotel so very convenient, even some shopping not too far of a walk. Also, a double decker touring bus stop right in front of the hotel so very convenient for that. Not super luxourious, had to call to get an icebucket and wine glasses but they were brought up promptly.

Close to Buckingham Palace
Great location, close to the sites, the underground, the coach station, restaurants, shops etc. We walked everywhere and took the underground. It is very easy to navigate and get around. Buy a few tickets at once to avoid long lines. Changing of the guard is interesting but very hard to see, WAY WAY too many people. I traveled with my daughter who is 10yrs old. She got pushed and shoved a lot walking. Not a very kid friendly city. Restaurants roll their eyes and hate seating you if you have kids with you. There is no AC anywhere in this city. The room was air conditioned, but not what you expect if you are from the US. The hotel was charming, and staff was SO friendly and accomodating.

Great location, tired hotel
The location can't be beat. Easy access to tube, Victoria Station, shops, etc. Picture of lobby on Expedia page is NOT accurate, not the elegant English but rather stark, leather chairs/loveseats. Outside is dirty concrete and hallways dark, worn. Rooms large, but again worn. Beds comfortable, great service from front desk. I am completely puzzled about "great breakfast" comment. The pathetic buffet was 15 Ls (read over $20 US-over $40 US for two for breakfast!!). Selection poor, ran out of 50% of the items and kept telling us they would replace. Never happened. Go to a Starbucks or one of the places in Victoria station. This is not a 4 star hotel, more like a struggling 3 star. Fortunately staff and location made up for it's tired, worn appearance and awful breakfast.

Great Location!
This hotel is very close to many of London's big tourist attrations. The staff were polite and helpful. The rooms are a bit chilly, but also very clean. The only problem we had was two rolls of our film dissapeared - probably thrown away by housekeeping. Overall we were satisfied with this hotel.
