I read reviews of this hotel before I booked it, and I hesitated. There were some scathing reviews by people who said they would never come here again. During my first 24 hours, I regretted it. When I arrived, reception was closed and some guy was sitting in the dark and gave me the key. He said to talk to "the girl" in the morning. I went to my room, which was small but adequate. There was no remote to the TV and I didn't have the wifi password either. The next day I went to breakfast, which was boring but adequate, and I stopped by the reception area 4 times (including one time when I waited for 30 minutes) but no one was there. I had to buy expensive wifi from BT to get my work done. The next day, finally someone was at reception and I got a remote for the TV and paid 5 pounds for the wifi. I stayed a total of 4 nights, and it dawned on me that this is just not the kind of hotel I am used to. It is a family run business and the people there are not trained or organized like professional hotel staff. I realized that, just as if you were staying in a home, you have to go track people down. Once you do track them down, they are happy to help. It occurred to me that the man in the dark was waiting just for me, because he knew I had still not checked in. That kind of service means that you have people who are looking out for you. In the end, I wished that the hotel was a little cheaper, but overall, I'm glad I stayed there.
