We booked this cottage 27-30 Dec in the grounds of Great Trethew Manor Hotel partly because the hotel had a bar & restaurant. However, we were not informed that the hotel was closed until new years eve! A fact I feel sure Jane the host would have been aware of. Naughty!
The cottage itself was tatty, dirty & damp. Despite the welcome pack boasting that not only did they disinfect, they also cleaned first, then disinfected?! (How else would it be done, I ask myself..) The place certainly was not clean, with dust & finger prints on the glass tv cabinet, grease splatters on the hob, dirty finger stains on doors etc. Flaky paint & poorly painted walls. I found myself adjusting the header tapes on poorly hung curtains lol.
Overcrowded extension sockets were a fire risk.
I could on, but I think you get the picture.
For me the worst was the black mould down the bedroom walls. A very unhealthy environment to sleep in!
We considered sleeping on the futon in the lounge but one of the wooden sides was split, so probably not safe. I confess we did not complain at the time - how much would the host have been able to rectify in a couple of days?
As holiday rental owners ourselves we do understand it is not always possible to satisfy everybody's expectations.
However, if the host is intending to continue taking guests' hard earned money, she needs to up her game considerably, and not to just pay lip service to hygiene standards, by cheekily asking guests to bag up their own laundry!!
