"Pension Barbara is a very cosy and clean pension right next to the paths leading up to The Brocken. The hostess was very sweet and attentive, and we had a good stay. Schierke as a town is a bit dated and quiet in the autumn, when we visited. Is was difficulty to find a place to just have a couple of drinks etc. The national park, Brocken and paths are all excellent for a short hiking-holiday. Great nature, chalenging paths (if you want it), nice restaurant on the summit."

"The stay was "alright", we just wanted someone where sleep as it was a stop over. Google maps and and the hotels.com map sent us in the wrong direction sending us up a dirt track through forests to the middle of nowhere resulting in having to do a three-point turn on the side of a drop off with only enough room for one car. Turned up eventually to be shown two rooms in which we had to lug our suitcases up and down flights of stairs as the first room wasn't made. It was cheap accommodation though...
